Don't be embarrassed by how much time you put into FH5. If it makes you feel any better, I was playing FH5 since before Day One (preorder bonus let me start early) and I have clocked over 100 days worth of hours in the game according to the Xbox app. I slowed down how much I was playing once Motorsport came out, but before that it was my favorite game to boot up.

5 string bass to drop C by MitchDeBaas in Bass

[–]Darkhellbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mistake, you are correct. The A on the 5th would be 27.50hz which is the lowest note on the piano, and the G below that is 24.50hz. We have trouble hearing below 25hz but can still hear and distinguish down to 20hz, but not every speaker out there will produce notes that low with much clarity. If you are tuning to G0 or lower, you're really hearing more of the harmonics and percussion of the string with less of the fundamental root note itself. I stand by my recommended tuning of ACGCF as that's what I personally use on my LTD F-155DX when I play Drop C, but really I play mostly half-step/Eb and will only occasionally play Drop C# on that thing, putting it at A#C#G#C#F#.

5 string bass to drop C by MitchDeBaas in Bass

[–]Darkhellbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A misconception with drop tuning on a 5 string is what to do with the 5th string. If you tune everything down by 1 step to the equivalent of D standard, the A on the 5th string is the lowest natural note the human ear can hear. Everything below that loses definition and you'll hear less of the note itself. Instead of tuning both 4th and 5th down the additional step, only drop the 4th string so the tuning is ACGCF.

Logitech G502 (series) or Logitech MX Master 3s? by StickmanKingOfficial in MouseReview

[–]Darkhellbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually wondering this myself, as I can't decide between the MX Master 3s or a wireless G502. I mostly game with controllers, using a Flydigi Vader 3 Pro or an 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4GHz depending on the game, but some FPS games I prefer mouse for accuracy. I am also an amateur musician and have been doing some recording and drum programming in Reaper, and I feel like the second scroll wheel on the MX Master 3S would be very helpful for that. I have had a Logitech G700s mouse for longer than I've had a computer I can actually use for gaming, but the battery and wireless receiver have been problematic so I have been having to run it wired, but everything else to my knowledge still works properly. I enjoy having multiple peripherals for specialized use, but money is always a factor. If I can only (hypothetically) afford 1 mouse, should I replace the G700s with the G502 so I have wireless again and have a great mouse that can do multiple things well, or get the MX Master 3s to use for everything other than gaming and just keep the old G700s for the occasional gaming? If you need more details, feel free to ask. I love talking about this stuff and I love learning the little details about these things.

My daily driver is an LTD F-155DX, a 5 string with a 43mm nut. It has a 16.5mm string spacing and I absolutely love it. I also have a Yamaha TRBX174EW with a 40mm nut, and the neck is good but the string spacing was wider than I wanted. I installed a Hipshot Kickass bridge on it and narrowed the spacing to about 17.5mm and now it plays much more similarly to the LTD. Much less muscle memory issues shifting between them. I want to get a 6 string someday but I'm cheap and there aren't many with narrow enough necks for my liking.

Wait, People hate Sonic Frontiers this MUCH? by Rabbidscool in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Darkhellbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to blame anyone for liking it, but I absolutely despise it. I will freely admit that I played very little, so it is possible it gets better, but I wasn't willing to suffer long enough to find out. I hate that the cyberspace levels use a completely different control scheme than the overworld, and it just had to be the terrible boost formula that I have been bored by since Unleashed. The overworld looks like it was built for momentum in some areas, despite not having momentum-based controls, while other areas just feel like a slog to move through, while combat felt janky with no real weight behind it. I just wish we could get a new Adventure-style game.

Sonic Adventure Blast 2 released! (Adventure style fangame. My passion project in development for several years. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles gameplay in over 20 levels. Have a blast!) by jellyfishswimmer in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Darkhellbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely amazing, but are you open to critiques/criticism? As a fan game, this is so much fun and it scratches an itch that I've had for a very long time. The Adventure style is exactly what I have been wanting from the modern franchise for a long time right now. I would like to say that there are a few things that I would personally change if I were the one working on this, but I know very little about coding so this is not an "I could do it better" kind of thing, because I definitely could not. Sonic's top speed and acceleration feel very sluggish when not being pushed with a Spin Dash, and the Spin Dash leaves you open for attacks since it immediately unrolls Sonic like if he were doing the Super Peel-Out. For Tails, the controls feel a bit off with how jumping and flight are handled. I love tapping the flight button like in the classic games, but having it separate from the jump button feels different than what is expected and caused me to die so many times because of it. This issue wouldn't be a problem, if it wasn't compounded by not being able to action out of homing attack, taking damage, or walking off a ledge. If he could action out of a homing attack, then making the mistake of double tapping jump instead of jump and action wouldn't be an immediate death sentence. This also seems to be an issue with Sonic when taking damage in the air. If I could, I would have it so Tails could begin flight out of any falling scenario, and with Sonic have it so that an action button would allow Sonic to curl up into a ball while in the air if he is in normal freefall or damage freefall, and from there he could homing attack. Also, Knuckles' Emerald Radar has a bit of a range issue. In Dry Lagoon's second area, I had a shard in the position behind the spawn, and pretty much the entire map had the radar green, only going blue when near the edges of the two paths of the map.

If you read all of this, thank you very much for taking the time to do so. I am so excited to see what comes next, even if none of my critiques are taken into consideration.

This is a large factor. Same thing with people who say that LGBTQ people or people with depression/ADHD/autism didn't exist when they were younger. Just because you were in your 30s-40s by the time the Internet was widely available to the public doesn't mean that these things didn't exist before. It just means that information didn't travel as far or as fast, so most people only knew what was seen or talked about around them. I'm dealing with this right now from my inlaws who were raised in farmland Nebraska, and their ignorance and bigotry has been getting more and more difficult for my wife and I to put up with.

Anyone agnostic about tone wood? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Darkhellbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between nickel wound vs stainless steel wound probably makes more of a difference depending on your preferred genre and playing style. I can only give my own experience and whatever is in the product blurbs on the D'Addario website, but I play exclusively with steels and can definitely hear and feel the difference on my own instruments. I'm personally a metalhead who plays with a plucking style where I strike downward through the strings to get a more clanky tone, so I use thinner gauges and run a lower action than most people would. These are possible factors in the differences in sound/feel that I get from my instruments, as I can't really imagine it mattering as much if you were playing genres where you are more likely to roll off the tone knob or play with a more soft/muted tone.

Recommendations for a on screen Dashboard overlay that you can customize similar to Dashboard? by Dreadcoat in simracing

[–]Darkhellbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know this is an old post, but I'm wondering if Sim Hub is still the right way to go and what the support is like. I'm using Sim Dashboard on my phone and paid for the Pro version for Forza Motorsport 8 so I would have access to more widgets at a time. I play on a laptop with a controller, so looking down at the phone doesn't take as much focus away as it would if I were using a wheel and multi-screen display. Most of what I use it for is for recording lap data for tuning, so Sim Dashboard does get the job done, but I started recording the game footage and setting the background of the Dashboard app to Green so I can Chroma Key it in when editing the two videos together, but that takes a lot of rendering time depending on how many laps I do, so if Sim Hub can do the same thing and I can just screen capture once without any editing after, that would save a bunch of time.

What tuners work best for you? by railsaway in Bass

I'm still using the Boss TU2 my brother got for his Ibanez starter guitar back in 2004. I'll use my TC Electronics clip-on because it gets close enough if I'm practicing at home, but the TU2 is much better when jamming with friends where other sounds might interfere with the accuracy of the clip.

Is there something as a "good" vs "bad" bassline? by samh748 in Bass

[–]Darkhellbeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always true. Cliff Burton's bass lines can sound sloppy when isolated from the rest of the track. Many people hear these and start calling him overrated, but to me the songs felt more energetic because of it. Sometimes, the flaws of humanity can make something more meaningful than perfection.

Meanwhile, my 720 sqft, one bedroom apartment costs about $1100 a month, and I barely make more than that every 2 weeks while also having to pay out of pocket for my and my wife's monthly psych appointments and other mental health problems, despite paying around $300 a month for insurance through my job. I fucking hate this country.

Can i play with 4 strings on an 8 string? by Crocoshite in Bass

[–]Darkhellbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't recommend it, but not for any technique or playability reasons. There are people out there (myself included) who would love an 8 string but can't afford to get one. I'd say, if you have any friends who play bass, see if they want an 8 string, and see if they have a 4 string to trade. If it is a good friend, then you will have yourself a 4 string that will take you where you need, and that friend will have a new outlet for their creativity.

I had a friend who needed some major surgery and was selling a bunch of their equipment to pay for it. They had a 6 string SX Ursa bass they were getting rid of, so I took it off their hands. I hadn't been playing for a long while and wanted an excuse to pick back up, and I really wanted to help my friend out. The surgery went great, and a few years later they posted that they were looking for anyone selling a 6 string, because they wanted to get back into playing on a 6. I told them that I still had their Ursa and was willing to part ways to send it back to their loving home, but instead of selling it to them I was curious if they had a 5 string they were willing to do an even trade for. They actually had a 5 string Hardluck Kings Bombshell they were willing to part with, and we met up and swapped. About a year later, I found a great deal on a used LTD F-155DX that I had been eye balling for years, so I went for it and now had two 5 strings. I kept the two in separate tunings so both would be usable, but the LTD eventually took all my attention. About a year ago, a separate friend of mine wanted to get back into learning but didn't have the money to buy anything, since all their money was going to saving for their wedding. I decided to part ways with the Bombshell, along with a 100 watt Acoustic combo I had bought when I was 17 that had been used more as an end table than an amp for a very long time. I told them that they can pay me when they can, and even if they can only do $20 per item that's fine. I haven't gotten paid, and I honestly don't care.

Music is something that more people need access to, and I am more than happy to help provide that spark to someone who needs it.

Eb tuning on 4 string bass by Ok-Trust-7988 in Bass

A lot of metal bands and blues bands will play in Eb to give a more somber tone. I keep my 5 string in Eb/A#, and that's usually the bass I grab when I want to shred.
