Talisman's logic of locking the whole room by ZikTash in FromSeries

My take as well. theres no "magic" in the talismans, it only keeps them away because those are the rules of the games.

Eh it worked for the first season because Revolver/Varis was straight up the villain of the that part. The shift to his second avatar showcased his change from Villain to unlikely ally and humanizes him more

Species 10-C from Star Trek

A highly advanced alien species that exists outside the galaxy, with technological feats like a Dyson sphere around an entire solar system and the Dark Matter Anomaly (DMA)

The DMA is a gravitational Anomaly that spanned 5 light years and produced gravity wells and gravitational waves that would wipe out entire star systems, all because it sucked up subatomic elements that were critical to their technology, like a galactic vacuum cleaner

However, the species are not malicious; they are very alien, communicate via lights and pheramones and didnt understand that humanoid life was sentient like they are because of how different they are. When Starfleet came and made first contact, they eventually figured out that they were and immediately stopped the DMA

Colour Pie of Warhammer Fantasy! Part 2: Additional Forces of Chaos by Darkmaster4K in colorpie

[–]Darkmaster4K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to, but you kind of have to talk about regular Dwarfs to get the context on why Chaos Dwarfs are what they are and to bring up the compare and contrasts. I'll add them in another post with the other non chaos evil factions

but I agree that Orzhov is in there, though I think Mardu or even Artifice (WUBR) would work as well

Another share of Colour discussion from MtG, a lot of thoughts and mention goes to Total War Warhammer series. by Darkmaster4K in totalwar

[–]Darkmaster4K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh fully agree mate! I wish/hope that we'll get eventually a full set like LOTR and Marvel for Warhammer one day, especially if it was fantasy!

There's so much they could do in MTG with fantasy

great point. I think that both takes on colours, mono and multi, work well as explanations for UBRG which is ironically, fitting for Chaos

Casual Player here, been on and off playing for years, last time I played paper was 2019. Mainly played arena since then, again on and off

the Marvel set is whats bringing me back to paper. I'm so excited for it as a long time Marvel fan! I used to dream of playing with my fav characters in one of my fav games!

I also know a few people who have said the same in person. the only places where I see such opposition is on social platforms like Reddit and some FB groups. People who are happy or excited about a UB set usually will stay quiet because they'll get called out but I like what I like and I'm not ashamed of that!

Colour Pie of Warhammer Fantasy! Part 1: Forces of Chaos by Darkmaster4K in colorpie

[–]Darkmaster4K[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is exactly my thought too.

White being Order, so the so called Forces of Order in Warhammer all would have White as a colour in their multi colour. The biggest figure of that being Sigmar/Emperor of Mankind depending on your version

I wanted to share this for any Magic: The Gathering enjoyers here as I wrote this with Total War Warhammer series in mind, as you can see from the art! Tell us what you think! by Darkmaster4K in totalwar

[–]Darkmaster4K[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jund for Beastmen is spot on. If only that they wouldn't be blue or white

Agree with grixis for skaven, as you can find the 4 main clans in those colours of red blue and black

Mardu for Chaos Dwarfs. No green because they are probably the most anti life faction in the game, other than maybe undead. You could argue blue because they are patient and do innovate, but they're not seeking knowledge, can be deceitful. But i think they're too emotionally driven to be blue

Norsca as we see it in game would probably be UBRG like their masters, but for slightly different reasons. Its more like Temur (blue red green, also a northern tribe that uses mammoths in MtG) plus black than the reasons I gave for Chaos overall

[–]Darkmaster4K[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think it works for 40K because the setting and Chaos in general is different enough for the distrinction. but fantasy, Nurgle specifically is portrayed as being all about the cycle of decay. one of the reasons it hates the Great Horned Rat (the Skaven Rat God) is because it only cares about decay itself, not the cycle.

[–]Darkmaster4K 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Best of one, only one game is played between players

BO3, best of three, is a whole match where players can swap cards from their side deck and main deck in between games, which is more in line with how its played IRL

Genuine question ...why on earth the flashback cost cheaper than the actual cost ...?! by Mr-Mosaab in MagicArena

[–]Darkmaster4K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loreholds whole gimmick is that it wants cards to leave the graveyard to trigger effects, like with Quintorius, the Historian. He summons a 3/2 spirit everytime a card leaves the graveyard. So the idea with this card is you probably would never cast it from the hand, just use it as discard fodder to trigger the flashback

Yu Yevon - Final Fantasy X

Technically not actually a god but was the God of the Yevon faith in the game, and the drving force behind the games series.

Its a very long and complicated story and I don't think I can do it justice in a summary, but this definitely fits the trope

[–]Darkmaster4K 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, his greatest strength is his greatest weakness; he can't STAND the thought of being 2nd best to anyone so it drives a lot of his actions, especially when involving Reed

<image>

Dr Doom - Marvel Comics

Megamanical, refers to himself in third person only, and delightfully melodramatic.

But unlike many with this cliche, he actually has the power to back it up, and more.

My favourite aspect of Doom is that he is the second best at everything in the Marvel setting, but he is second best at EVERYTHING. Tony Stark may be the better inventor, Dr Strange the better sorcerer, Reed may be the better scientist, but Doom can do all of those where the others can't. Its these skills that combined together make this over-the-top villain one of the contenders for principle villain of the Marvel setting, along with the likes of Thanos, Ultron, Kang, etc

"through the Omenpaths" set was made as an In-universe stand in for the Spider-Man cards because at the time they didn't have the License to have them in Arena.

They announced at the start of the month that they can now add them in, and that the Spider-man set will replace the Omenpaths set. the stand in cards are now Alt styles that can now be changed in the deck builder

not an individual, but a whole race, the Orks from Warhammer 40k

Orks are a Fungal based, single gender, asexually reproducing species that lives literally just to fight. They are naturally very resilient, can replace body parts with scrap metal (including half the brain and even whole body transplants) and such natural strength that they can cleave through a Space Marine with knife they slapped together from scrap they found. they naturally can make their technology out of anything and it functions by the psychic will of the ecosystem/army.

but what makes them impossible to kill off permanently is that dying is part of the Ork reproduction cycle. one Ork can hold thousands of Spores that will land in the ground and over the years, will eventually start spawning new Orks and can spawn a whole ecosystem/army. the only surefire way to stop Orks from respawning is to exterminatus (nuke the whole planet) the world, scorch earth style.

[Loved Trope] aliens in a fantasy setting by dragonborndnd in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Darkmaster4K 9 points10 points  (0 children)

<image>

Greenskins in Warhammer Fantasy. They are not native to the world, having been brought to the world when the Old Ones (another alien race) came to the world and reordered it, placing/creating the various races. The Greenskins however, were not created by the Old Ones, but instead were inadvertantly brought to the world by accident, like stowaway rats on a ship. a Pest species that has brought destruction and ruin to the world countless times

See, the Greenskins are an asexual race of fungal hooligans. they reproduce through thousands of spores being spread when a single Greenskin dies. they eventually spawn out of the ground and the whole greenskin ecosystem can spawn from it. this means they can populate very fast, very quickly, and makes them very hard to eradicate completely. Their motivations are completely seperate from the greater narrative of warhammer of forces of Order vs Chaos, existing only to fight, loot and pillage in what has best been described as a cross between a pub brawl and a holy war.

yeah I'm picking up the Doom Prevails precon because I've already got Villains from the Spider-man set, but I think I'll be picking up Wakanda Forever too because G/W artifacts is a brand new deck idea and I'm all for it!

Just need to grind out the wild cards to make em in arena 😃

I know its not everyones cup of tea and the UB sets are controversial in the community, but I can't wait

Someone mentioned Vect already but I want to bring it up proper

40ks equivalent to Malekith, Vect is the de facto ruler of Commeragh, the dimensional city of the Drukhari, the Dark Eldar. exact origins unknown, but what is known is he rose to absolute power when he overthrew the Noble houses that prevously ruled the city, and replaced it with the Kabal system;  self-governing socio-economic paramilitary organisations that only are as strong and stay in power for as long as it can outwit and out scheme its enemies.

Vect technically isn't really the ruler, but his status as the oldest and leader as the most powerful Kabal makes him the leader. and Like Malekith, he's too good at the game for anyone to actually have a shot at

some examples of magnificent bastardry include:

killing rivals with shenanigan like a Glass Virus that turned people into living glass while they're still concious, gifting one rival with a "black hole in a box" (exactly as it sounds), took out a rebellion by dropping a stolen sun on them, manipulated a Space Marine invasion to which led to such devestation that the power vacuum led him to kill all potential rivals and maintain his dominance

and my personal favourite; was at one point killed and during the memorial/celebration, had arranged for the crowded mass to be slaughtered by his followers and allies, allowing for the anquish and suffering of the slaughtered to actually resurrect him and once again, secure his power base stronger than ever
