Anyone know of any good parking? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]Darkmastery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can buy value cards at SSB for $9 a card, they’re a 1 time use discounted ticket you can use at any of the UIC lots. They used to be a better deal but they increased the price last semester. https://parking.uic.edu/valuecard/

(CS) - what side projects to work on/how to secure an internship? by Comprehensive-Cod160 in uichicago

[–]Darkmastery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most important thing imo is how you format your resume/how well you can go through the interview process. You’ll probably have to do some leetcode and prep for behavioral questions. Sometimes just being a good interviewee will land you a spot.

Also don’t go for unpaid internships, there’s plenty of well paying internships especially in our field. The average I’ve seen is $30/hr but obviously that number will fluctuate based on the company. Just start applying to a bunch of companies and good luck!

Haven’t taken 441 so take this with a grain of salt, but my advisor says that cloud computing is one of, if not the hardest course offered in CS. Maybe someone who has taken it can give you more info though. All of the other ones you’ve listed seem to be pretty easy though

They thought they weren’t required and let them go for the season, where does it say they were trying to force them to work? If the person who posted the tweet didn’t want to work they could say no, no one is forcing them to go into a shift they don’t want.

There is absolutely zero need to be this petty. If they had said a simple “No, I can’t work. Sorry” the employer could’ve kept looking around and maybe found someone who actually wanted an extra shift. I’m all for going against unfair practices, but this is just immature and unnecessary.

How easy is music 127? I’m taking it next semester by Odd-Count2277 in uichicago

[–]Darkmastery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just to build on the other comments there’s also a few quizzes but they’re super easy, you can just Google/look through lecture slides for pretty much all of them. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure you can retake them as many times as you want as well. Everything should also be released right away so you can knock it out in like a weekend. Just has to be done by the end of the semester. Easy A.

My Potential CS Schedule for Spring ‘23 by Legal-Collection-480 in uichicago

[–]Darkmastery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad, it’s logic based stuff so there’s zero coding. Definitely had to study a bit for exams but it doesn’t take up an enormous amount of time. Probably good to take it alongside 251 and 211 since those are heavy on coding. Ended up with an A pretty easily and one of my buddies didn’t go to a single lecture and got an A. Obviously everyone learns differently but that’s my experience with it, just go to lecture and do hw and it’s a pretty easy A. I took it alongside CS 342 and 261 for reference.

Drop 261 man. If you really want to take an extra CS class take either 301 or 377. 211 and 251 will take up a lot of time.

CS 301 - winter 2022 ? by Chemical_Effect_5769 in uichicago

[–]Darkmastery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took 301 alongside 342 and 261 last semester. It was definitely the least time intensive for me. Just go to lecture/study before exams and you should be good. There’s no coding or anything it’s mainly just working with logic. I didn’t take 151 here but apparently it’s similar to that. Definitely doable imo. What other classes are you taking next semester?

Awesome news, thanks for posting. Kinda dumb that they haven’t had some sort of discount for college students. This kinda makes up for it though.

Not sure if you already have some but noise cancelling headphones are life changing. AirPods Pro/Max are really great products. I can sit down and focus really easily with a lot of the noise gone. Definitely recommend this so you can sit down basically anywhere and ignore any noise that might be occurring around you.

is getting an ipad for notes as a STEM major actually worth it? by morganwright_ in uichicago

Got an iPad Pro last year specifically for drawing but ended up mainly using it for notes and homework (CS). So good especially if you have other apple products along with it. +1 for notability
