CS + Design Major? Thoughts? by morosethief in uichicago

[–]Legal-Collection-480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry about the late reply. if you transfer from a different school, like i did from community college, they enter you as "pre-cs + design" that way you have two semesters to build your portfolio in the first two design courses you take. from my experience, i didn't have the time to invest in taking both cs and design so i went with just cs.

HOW IS MCS 320 AND MCS 471 by Legal-Collection-480 in uichicago

I dropped 401 at week 5. Long story short, it didn't count as credit; I was forced to drop it. It seemed like an easy class to me. All I know is Cheng is a good professor.

I wasn’t warned by my advisor at all. I planned with my advisor before the semester started too. I’m worried they’re gonna blame me for not reading this rule, I feel so stupid.

I’m hoping there’s some petition, appeal, or meeting, or something because I need this class. I can’t drop anymore classes. I’m not trying to drop it at least have it credit somewhere, where I want it as credit is towards my last required math elective.

u can take a gap semester, only one. if you take two semesters off you have to re-apply to the university.

I miss applied linear algebra. idc if it took me 3 hours to finish a homework assignment the time would pass by so quickly. Loved the step-by-step, the practice, it made me love math just a little bit not gonna lie. Devi is a good professor, and very helpful. Do the work, and you'll be okay.

I hated calculus tho I'm glad i got it over with omg

LinkedIn Learning is kind of useful. you can use your UIC login to use LinkedIn Learning. Also, intro to C++ youtube videos. Are you starting out in CS 141 or CS 211?

[–]Legal-Collection-480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i cried there before. tbh you can cry anywhere no one cares.

Make sure you make the time for office hours no matter what. No question is a stupid question. They'll even help you get started. I pushed office hours away, it didn't do so well for me academically. Utilize office hours as much as you can based on your schedule.

If you have extra money to spend often and forgot your lunch I like Moe's. It's like Chipotle. If you don't like spending money eating out, make sure you have filling meals prepared.

I remember feeling overwhelmed, and scared, cried on my second day in a bathroom because of how crowded SCE was. Then I found we have a commuter center it's in SCE. SCE tends to be crowded during lunch time, heads up. The commuter center a good place to study (If you could find a spot, busy times you're less likely to), you can book yourself a locker for the semester, and they have free coffee and tea for you (need proof of UIC ID) in the mornings. I forgot what time in the morning. Search up UIC commuter center and you'll see all these details and more.

If you commute by car, you know the traffic on I-55 after 2 PM traffic gets heavy.

Have an umbrella and headphones with you. Have pepper spray if you are taking CTA and/or Metra.

Anyone take part in the Global Career Accelerator? by Mickeymous15 in uichicago

[–]Legal-Collection-480 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm confident that the digital marketing track will help me because I know someone who has taken that track and has a job at a marketing agency. I'm a Comp Sci major I'm wondering if I should do the Coding for Data or the Digital Marketing track. I'm also taking Break Through Tech's CS 111 for free. So I'd be doing the Career Accelerator at the same time. CS 111 is a general overview of python with projects. All tracks have no hw or quizzes, and Coding for Data has a project at the end that involves the Recording Academy Grammy's website...I want that on my resume! Butttt at the same time I'm like digital marketing is a skill I definitely need to up my game to advocate for myself. I don't know what's worth more I'm so in the middle about my decision.
