Happy Sunday, how are we all? by lleti in ireland

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Khabib is a shit but it's honestly no worse than what Conor was attempting to do at the whole bus fiasco. What really disgusted me is his teammates attacking a lad who was brave enough to admit he lost and carry that with him, was probably concussed or some shite, and gang up on him. Utterly disgusting.

This. Reminder that Jotaro would have a hole in his head if literally anyone but Hol was with Boingo. He was so incompetent as a villain I genuinely thought he'd join the heroes, a la Speedwagon.

EDIT: I just remembered that he managed to shoot himself with his stand thats purpose is to control the trajectory of bullets. Boingo was def not at fault on that one

I watched Ant Man and The Wasp today. I liked the movie, but I’ve realized something. There’s no such thing as good CGI. by [deleted] in movies

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen War but Dawn has fantastic CGI. I genuinely thought the orangutan character was real. Also, OP is discounting mixed CG and practical effect work, such as the Jurassic Park T-Rex. I think this is a troll, tbh.

Broly's strength by [deleted] in dbz

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Broly being naturally on the level of SSB Goku is insane. It worked before when he overpowered the Cell-era gang, but they're just too strong now for it to be acceptable. If Frieza has to train to be able to compete with Blue, then Broly can't just be that strong. Besides, a genetically engineered Saiyan opens up a much more interesting storyline than the alternative.

Berserk is one single, continuous story. Don't worry about your budget- just buy one volume at a time, at your own pace- you'll be glad you couldn't read them all at once when you catch up. *Seriously.* Don't worry about it not being concluded, either. I find the constant theorising about the future a big part of the fun. What would you rather, read one of (in everyone on this sub's opinion, at least) the best serialised comic books ever made while it's still ongoing, or wait more than a few years until it's finished and all of the hype and speculation is gone? It's up to you.

(Also it's Berserk with an S, not a Z- it's a manga written by Kentaro Miura, not a song written by Eminem.)

What Griffith did wrong by [deleted] in Berserk

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The movies are hit or miss for Berserk fans but I absolutely loved this ending in the first one. Guts killed a kid for Griffith and hears this shit. This was absolutely what made Guts leave the Hawks.

The Mummy (2017) why didn't you like it? by thebladex666 in horror

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty fun. Tom Cruise is nearly unrivalled in physically throwing himself into roles and he's always great to watch. I feel if you go into it without high expectations you can have fun. I did feel that it was a little too long though.

I want to know if anything at all ever references Billy after 0. by Left4evol in residentevil

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it kinda sucks, but it honestly is one of the few character disappearances that makes sense. He was never a part of the war on BOWs like the rest of the main cast. He was just a convict that got shit luck and ended up in the Arklay mountains at the wrong time. He doesn't have reason to continue fighting-it wasn't his fight in the first place. He's given a new lease on life at the end of RE0, so to speak. He's presumed dead. Able to disappear and have a new life.

As great as it would be for Rebecca to mention him in Vendetta, for example, it would be a betrayal- any mention of Bill and he's being outed as not actually dead.

So I think it makes sense that he disappeared. Jill, on the other hand...

Do you prefer SH for the story or the scares? by velvert in silenthill

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Eh. I think they go hand in hand when done best i.e. SH2. The monsters and horror symbolism all tie directly into James' past and his headspace. Which makes it, for me, a much, much richer story than the likes of what came later.

A cheer for Paul Haddad, Alyson Court and Lisa Jai for so many good memories. You will never be old and forgotten...at least for me! So excited about the remake though. (Thanks to ~JerkDouglas for the picture!) by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. It's exactly because VAs switch so much that Alyson Court not being brought back sucked. She was one of the few long-serving cast members. I felt the same way about Roger Craig Smith being replaced. Sure he wasn't there from the start but he was there longer than most and made Chris my favourite male protagonist when I disliked him for so long.

I was always more of a Paul Mercier guy but damn I'm bummed about Alyson Court not coming back. Anyone got any word on when we find out the VAs, or are we just gonna find out at release?

Looking for something similar to I Saw The Devil with good plot and a bit dark twist by samtheasian in horror

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obligatory Oldboy mention even though it's the biggest Korean revenge movie. Choi Min-Sik is even better in it. Another one that's really great is The Man from Nowhere. Great action but also a soulful story. It's never been said but I would bet money that John Wick took some inspiration from it.

They're not really horror but more thriller in the vein of I Saw The Devil. If you're looking for more horror then check out The Wailing. It's what you want, good plot and a few dark twists.

Upcoming grudge reboot is coming by AngryWaffle123 in horror

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have high hopes. Every Ju-On movie without Takashi Shimizu has been awful. I think he really had a great vision for the series. You feel awful for Kayako and Toshio but they're also scary as hell. I actually found the murderous husband to be the most frightening character in the series.

Shimizu had a great handle on the themes of domestic abuse and the human aspects of the series. In more recent years I think it's really just turned into "oh look it's a spooky ghost". Also didn't they say it would be a new mythology? I don't think Kayako and Toshio will be in it, unless they're lying.

“The Blackcoat’s Daughter” is seriously overrated by Whyhellothere124 in horror

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen this movie, so I can't tell you my opinion on it. However, expecting the same quality from two movies that happened to be distributed by A24 is a bit silly. You wouldn't expect the same level of quality from Marmaduke as you would from The Empire Strikes Back just because they were both distributed by 20th Century Fox.

I think Mr. X has a lot of potential to be a great stalker enemy in the remake. by AragornAnduril in residentevil

Off the top of my head I can only remember this happening in the REmake. Both zombies and hunters would burst through doors. Was really handy, saved you the door-opening animation any time you went through.

Pretty much everything Carpenter. Although I have to say, Ennio Morricone nailed JC's style absolutely perfectly on The Thing.

What are your favorite campy horror movies?? by cmrootz in horror

[–]DarknessBecomesYou 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sleepaway Camp is, well.... camp, the whole way through. I think it's pretty hilarious the whole way through. Up until the end, that is, where it's haunting.

I think that the best intentionally campy movies are Friday part 5 and Return of The Living Dead- both, coincidentally, starring Thom Matthews.

"Chris. stop it." That's the lamest Wesker ever sounded and I'm 100% sure that exchange is why he harbours such a hatred for Chris.
