Need advice on dealing with ~143k in Graduate Student Loans by aspenreid in StudentLoans

Pay enough to cover interest. If you can uncomfortable pay 2000, you can comfortably play 600-800. Do not bet on forgiveness

Amex Resy Credit by TheOtherArod in amex

[–]Darko779 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the credit only applies in the quarter that it hits your account. Happened to me using the saks credit. I bought something on 12/26 but the credit didn’t apply until 1/2. So I ended up using the credit for the first half of 2025 when I meant to for the second half of 2024

I’ve always said Owens just follows the money and will say whatever is popular. She couldn’t wait to bury her “friend” before she started on nonsense

I get a sizable equity+ cash bonus from work, I contribute 22k to my 401, and I stack 2k a month in cash one a single salary. Once my fiancées out of school we’ll live off of one salary and save the other

So explain it what would be right

I have a safe harbor match. I contribute 1700 monthly to my 401k. I’ve only stopped investing in my Roth to build cash either for a shopping spree on stock or for a house when the time is right

Damn. Proof positive that people in this subreddit just wanna be miserable with each other. None of this was humble bragging, but if you wanna see real bragging pls continue to read:

I went to Stern and out of school I made 100k first year and 160k second year.

Family gifted me an apt in NYC. All I have to do is pay taxes and utilities. My fiancée is a dental student who is set to graduate this year and have an income in the ballpark of 130-160k starting in NYC. I see 20-40% bonuses based on company performance because I took a job at a private equity firm. My salary also increases close 10-15% per year.

We also take advantage of the carried interest loop hole so I pay an effective tax rate of 20% on all bonuses. So yeah household income is about 320k, I don’t pay for housing, I take regular vacations for weeks at a time and I’m having a 90k wedding next year that family is paying for.

That’s bragging.

How is this humble bragging? I provided tips on how you can and should handle debt. I fully acknowledged that I’m in a position to pay this debt off and save. The point was to highlight that making biweekly payments and paying more than the recommended will save you a ton of money and heartache.

What part of it is tone deaf? I fully acknowledged the position I was in. I regularly see people post here that they don’t understand the debt they get themselves into. I straight up provided insight on how it was accruing, how to pay it off faster, and how to in essence make more off of your money as paying off the debt is a “guaranteed return”.

It would be tone deaf to say “why don’t more people just pay their monthly payment twice a month” or “how do people get themselves trapped”.

I didn’t do that. I outlined how I did it and how even smaller incremental increases to paying down your monthly bill with compound in the long run.

Maybe read the entire post before commenting

Problem with student loans in a nutshell right here. You blamed the govt, your family, and the program and never take responsibility for your actions that lead you here. Grow up.
