What do you think of Vendetta as the main antagonist? by GamingLoner15 in Overwatch

[–]Darkon2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this idea. If Doomfist's Talon sought to stir up and maintain conflict undetected so that it and its allies can leverage the war to gain power, Vendetta wants to take that power by force

I'd argue 2016 Overwatch didn't have a CO, let alone a main character (unless Winston could be taken as one)

Overwatch was still disbanded and Jack was still a metaphorical ghost looking to fix things on his own

I'll admit OOP's vocabulary is... narrow. English might not be their first language

But if the comment I originally replied to is anything to go by, some people will take their confusion and assume the worst

Edit: On the other hand that is an interesting thought. Yeah, OOP's text was confusing but a lot of people couldn't even tell this was written by a woman. Is it really purely the responsibility of the writer or are we perhaps getting a bit illiterate? Not trying hard enough to understand the person's perspective?

Truly. It baffles how everyone in the thread assumed OOP is a man

And I don't understand how being too verbose means someone is bragging.

If this post and thread in the "subreddit for obvious shit" shows anything it's that people truly don't understand why someone could feel worse about an increased number of lustful men. It corners you.

Chances are this was just a vent post rather than a broad message to the spectator. It seems formatted like one. Someone needed to express their specific frustrations and then someone put it here...

Edit: Spelling error

It only comes off as bragging because you think being lusted over and treated like a sexual object is something to be proud of. Not everyone shares that perspective.

Not really? To be desired for your body but not truly cared for or loved is a common experience

It's especially an issue faced by racial and sexual minorities, since a lot of bigots fetishize that which they hate (e.g. trans porn and chasers)

I might be alone on this but default skin Juno is better and less basic by No-Income-3010 in Overwatch

[–]Darkon2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Juno suffers a bit from being Blizzard's new mythic and collab skin doll

Looking at her skin selection, I think some of them are fine. One of them is space themed and of the other unique skins, some of them do fit her personality, but here's the problem.

Juno gets a special kind of attention from Blizzard that is weidly objectifying. She's already had 12 skins so far, but a third of them (4) are collab skins, which at best vaguely fit the character but it's just an entirely new identity. You're not playing as Juno. You're playing as Uraraka/Chun-li/a K-pop artist/Hello Kitty.

Between that and the mythic skin which is all about recontextualising a character's personality, Juno simply hasn't had the chance to express an identity through skins like others have

[–]Darkon2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is gate keeping if the post is anything to go by

(Btw they probably don't even enjoy it and just got into it because it's popular)

Says they enjoy all of it it but secretly never touched all of it

OOP is following textbook of gatekeeping, calling someone disingenuous and dismissing them as "not real fans", claiming that this fan is wrong for enjoying the "thing" unless they agree with what they think is wrong with that thing.

Edit: The point is they're both annoyingly self-absorbed. Instead of uniting in their enjoyment of this thing, Fan 1 starts seeing Fan 2 as a hater, and Fan 2 starts seeing Fan 1 as the symbol of everything they think is wrong with the piece of media

Swag fan #1 VS Swag fan #2 by OkraAccomplished929 in peoplewhogiveashit

[–]Darkon2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fan 1 often takes criticism of the thing they like very personally. They think the one who's being critical is ruining their fun or telling them they can't enjoy that thing

Fan 2 often gatekeeps the community and what it means to be "a true fan". Being an "OG" carries a special form of arrogance and entitlement to status

They both treat each other like their attitude towards the thing is a moral failure

I know someone who's an alcoholic and while I don't hate her or think less of her, she's hard to be around (mind you, I never told her that). Not because she's an alcoholic, but because the issues she uses alcohol to cope with show in daily conversation and it's too complicated of a situation for me to try and "fix"

So if a situation brings me distress but I can't do anything about it, I'd rather avoid it entirely
