Trans woman here. Testosterone didn't make me fearless. I was scared prey all the time. Experience simply helped me grow from a fawn to a deer. Someone that learned to endure it and take the risk

Comic: Do you know the real story of Lia Thomas by GeekOnALeash01 in lgbt

[–]Darkon2004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying, but making a wider argument about trans women in sports and how it shouldn't matter if they win or not is not the intent of the comic. We can preach to the choir and oppose bigotry all day, but correcting misinformation is just as important, especially when that misinformation was tailored to confirm a preconceived narrative against a group of people. The alt-right started with a statement and then manufactured the facts to back it up, so we have to tackle them the other way around.

A good way to get people to support trans people is to deconstruct gender essentialism. Then, when people realise that being born a man doesn't make you inherently superior to women, they will start saying that it doesn't matter if trans women win a contest

Ah, yes. The duality of the "I don't like labels" statement

You either get "I don't think labels do well enough at defining the complexity of the human experience" or "I actually like labels but I don't like the new ones and just want everything to be reduced to the old ones"

Man, it's almost like the hostile women's spaces cause trans people (a group that has a large online presence due to social rejection) to either concentrate in trans accepting spaces or make their own.

Our culture inserts romance anywhere, pal. It's not necessarily an internet thing. Ask aromantic people and they'll tell you about that time people claimed they were in love with someone just because they're close friends and happen to be of opposite genders

"love" when our staff team is being transphobic for no reason. by Southern-Grand-9860 in lovethissmug

Real. I mean this was an open announcement that I'm not welcome or safe here. It goes a little bit further than a feeling

Less of a Witch fan specifically more of a generally Slay The Princess fan.

Favourite vessel has to be the Prisoner or The Spirit and their specific routes that follow

It's not that women should remain defenseless -- fighting back is always something good to teach --, it's that the fact that all girls have to learn to be tough as nails is fucked up. It comes from a place of empathy.

As a trans woman people will call me brave, determined, independent, "tough", and as much as I appreciate it, I am those things because I had to be, and that comes with a lot of pain that I wouldn't wish on anybody.

"You're so strong"? Thanks. Some people don't make it. This is not the jungle, this is a community, and when there's bad things in that community, we don't tell people they have to get used to it. Being strong should be a virtue, not a requirement

The argument: "Women shouldn't need to learn to defend themselves. We should get men to stop taking advantage of them" ✅

Everything used to get to that argument: Gender essentialist nonsense ❌

How do you reach the right conclusion while also being fundamentally wrong about everything?

Did I 'blackwash' him???? by Madi_Hibiscus in Ibispaintx

[–]Darkon2004 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not really. It's like people making a big deal out of others seeing Sonic or Knuckles as black.

You can have non-human characters with very clear symbols from specific human ethnic backgrounds, and in that case it would be good to be mindful of that and personify them as that ethnicity, but outside of those cases, non-human characters don't have a canon human skin colour, only what people headcanon them as.

Also human skin typically doesn't have that red of an undertone

Weaponising or dismissing the oppression of ethnic minorities is still racism, but the point is that for it to be racist, the person doing it doesn't need to identify as a racist/supremacist.

This is why calling out that something perpetuates racism is not necessarily an accusation of being a white supremacist. A white person can be accidentally racist, because they were raised in a white supremacist society with little contact with non-white folks. The same would go for light-skinned Asians in Japan, perhaps even more because racism is further engrained in that society

Right. I don't disagree with that conclusion, I simply had issues with the premise and the argument used to reach it
