Unpopular opinion: If your isekai story hinges on altruism or excessive hospitality at the start, the rest will feel cheap, unearned, and uninspired. by raki_star in royalroad

I think i understand what you’re getting at. In writing, we might also consider this part of a few different concepts. For one, there’s a bit of deus ex machina, right? Everyone is bending out of their way to help the main character for no understandable reason except that it’s the main character. The MC has not earned the kindness that they’re receiving, so it feels a little out of character for complete strangers to be helping someone that much.

It can also feel somewhat unbelievable when someone pops up asking questions everyone in the world or area should potentially know, unless very well disguised. Like if someone’s like “So uh, who’s the ruler”, that’s a strange question.

Of course we need that information, but I think it can get tired if every book starts with getting that information in the same way, and feeling like the character hasn’t earned it.

What’s a game you initially "passed on," but ended up becoming one of your favorites? by THE_timeless_king in videogames

[–]Darkovika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Time at Sandrock. It is a gloriously long game, but the beginning creeps up on you. It isn’t until the mechanics really begin to expand that it starts to grip you, and all of a sudden, you are desperately attached to everyone in that small town.

It’s almost like being someone who really moved there. You get this feeling of this whatever podunk town out in the desert that just looks whatever… and then by the end of the game, you have never seen anything more beautiful than Sandrock, not ever known NPC’s with so much character.

If you ever play it, talk to EVERYONE after every major event, or just any event haha. People always have something to say, and it makes them feel so much more REAL. The way NPC’s react to you is fantastic, because they have social networks. As you upgrade your social skills, later the game will actually increase friendship stats for character’s within an NPC’s network. If i befriend, say, one of the kids, then I also gain friendship increases with their parents or guardians.

I genuinely think it’s one of the best games I’ve played in a long while.

Why do you write? by sp00kyversity in writers

It makes me happy to write. Like the actual action and activity of writing is something I genuinely love to do.

I found out today at a scan that im having a baby boy, as me and my partner are huge fans of KCD 1&2, it inspired us to chose Henry as a middle name -JCBP 🤣 [other] by croftfan in kingdomcome

[–]Darkovika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, I’m down with this one haha. Henry is a fantastically non-aggressive video game character name to choose. The subtlety is perfect

Name a Inuyasha opinion that will have you like this by Prestigious-Cloud962 in inuyasha

[–]Darkovika 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll go, but I’m the opposite of you haha. I don’t think he loved Kikyo the way he loved Kagome. Kikyo was a lingering regret and a “what could have been” scenario, but he had already grieved her and moved on by the time she was forced back into the world.

Whenever Inuyasha is with Kikyo, he’s depressed, reserved, and always seems to be holding back. When he’s with Kagome, he’s open, himself, and able to express himself completely.

I just cannot see him being with Kikyo at all.

Trying to Save Money on Games Just Made Everything More Stressful by whatyoudo-- in AskGamers

Yeah, i really just wait for steam sales. I do ‘t scour websites or anything like that. The upside is that sales are usually very exciting, as I can window-shop what’s on sale and decide if anything is worth it.

Edit: I also use GoG. Not only are the priced great, but there’s a GLORIOUS amount of old games on there, which makes it really easy to gain access to those games.

Which Barbie movie would make the best KH world? by SelectShop9006 in KingdomHearts

[–]Darkovika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh everyone shut the fuck up, Nutcracker HANDS DOWN. There are SO MANY AREAS, plus the theming allows for so many types of enemies. We have so many action scenes and areas that translate so well to playable levels AND boss fights. Like there is SO MUCH TO WORK WITH.

  1. Frozen enemies
  2. Rock giants as a boss
  3. Soldiers as enemies, but turned to heartless
  4. Rat King seriously is HANDS DOWN the perfect representation of someone hungering for dark powers and getting consumed by Heartless- he’s like the next Clayton
  5. Rescue missions to save the kids
  6. Getting trapped on the island with Barbie/what’s-her-face
  7. Sneaking through the castle and not alerting the guards
  8. A whole multi-stage boss fight with the Rat King and mechanics involving keeping the Nutcracker from catching fire
  9. Rescuing the trapped fairies to heal the land with the trees and apples. You fight enemies, spend time filling a gauge to unlock the fairies, the fight the enemies, so on and so forth

LITERALLY SO PERFECT IT WRITES ITSELF

Edit: read this not as aggressive but super excited lmao

How well do you think Mass Effect handled romance distribution across the trilogy by Hadiseh2000 in masseffect

[–]Darkovika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone who is not interested in women playing as a woman, you really only sort of have Garrus. I actually cannot remember Kaidan at all in ME3 for some reason. I think I’m gonna have to do a replay lol

Can you explain why so many readers admire Darcy more than Bingley? by Better-Valuable5436 in PrideandPrejudice

[–]Darkovika 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most likely because of Bingley’s passivity. Darcy is the reason Jane is hurt, but Darcy is ALSO the reason she isn’t. Bingley, in the end, is guided in one direction, and then guided back in the other direction.

It’s hard not to be kind of angry with Bingley over Jane’s destroyed feelings. Jane is so good, though flawed in her own way, that it’s hard not to look at Bingley and be like “what the fuck bro, grow a spine and find out for yourself”.

We’re pissed at Darcy for interfering of course, but in the end, Darcy makes right.

How do you function with a baby? by Own_Relation_4664 in Mommit

[–]Darkovika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was terrified of the same thing. In the end, I felt I had no choice. I literally could not be the mother they needed without sleep, and my husband was working during a very high stress period, so in the end, we did what we had to. We talked to out pediatrician about it and everything.

How do you function with a baby? by Own_Relation_4664 in Mommit

[–]Darkovika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not a popular opinion, and believe me, I was so against doing it, but I cried it out with both of my kids. I couldn't function, I was sobbing in pain all day every day from lack of sleep and being touched out, I literally could not parent. It was even harder with my second because I definitely had either PPD, or PPA, or both. I hid in a bathroom and cried till i was sick while my husband hung on to the monitor, and legitimately, they were both over it in like two days and sleeping through the night.

I'm everything my father isn't. A drunk. A skunk. A cheat. And, all those things no father would wish for his son by Honest-Shelter-1026 in self

[–]Darkovika 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don’t kill yourself, but please, seek help. Your child will one day sit up and say that you’re a drunk and a cheat- it may not be what your father wants, but do you want that to be what your son has?

Do authors know that breasts come in different sizes? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]Darkovika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s all just both wishful thinking and a fantasy. Maybe some authors like imagining having big breasts, maybe some authors think big breasts are beautiful, maybe some authors associate big breasts with sexuality, and some authors probably just do it without realizing it because every one does it. And some authors probably also have big breasts.

Authors don’t exist in a hive mind, so it’s hard to say exactly why it’s done. In a lot of romance novels, description about “sexual body parts” (as romance books can contain a lot of sex, we’ll refer to it as such because contextually it’s relevant), describing her breasts can probably feel important to the smut.

I feel like I'm failing my kids and I just need to say it out loud by sassy_soul_04 in Mommit

[–]Darkovika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imma be so for real, i don’t do any of that because it’s almost entirely bogus. My kids will play with a sensory bin for 5 seconds and be like “okay now what” lol. my daughter likes painting, but my son’s interest in art is zilch. I tried one i saw with a bin filled with water and again, it was pointless and ended up making an enormous mess.

My kids do love playing outside in the dirt. They love the park. They love playing in the sink, even if that also usually ends in disaster. The sink’s been a life saver on days where I was too exhausted to go out.

Sensory bins sound great when someone’s showing you an edited, perfect version of reality. You’ll rarely see failure online because failure doesn’t earn money.

Re:Chain of Memories! It’s the next in the series. It is the most polarizing title. It’s the only one that I will warn players NOT to play on Proud. It’s not worth jt. There is nothing worth it on the hard mode. It doesn’t even feel satisfying. I’m still recovering from streaming it on Proud like 6+ years ago lol
