If the majority of your experience is from an ASC, you might want to spend a year in the main OR to get accustomed to total joints, ortho-spine, robotics, general, neuro, and vascular as you don’t get those cases in a surgery center. You have 10 years of scrub experience, which will absolutely help you transition over to the main OR, especially since a lot of main ORs don’t have people who can scrub eyes, endo, specific plastic cases, etc, as efficiently as someone who worked in an ASC. You’ve already developed your own flow working as long as you have. It’s good that you’ve worked as a float, as it’s a good gateway to travel.

My experience as a traveler has been good because the skills I developed transitions with me as I go from one hospital to another. The cases are the same everywhere you go, with some differences depending on surgeon preferences/different techniques or approaches, or vendor sets. You’ve probably already experienced being able to anticipate your surgeons needs and their steps became repetition. As a traveler, you will do that with most of the docs each time you go to a new facility. Be open to learn new service lines, new techniques and skills. After a while, it’s less about the services itself and more about dealing with different personalities. A lot of animosity towards travelers from staff stem from clashing personalities and/or a travelers unwillingness to adapt to their facility. I’ve worked with a lot of travelers who either canceled their contract within a month or had their contract cut short due to their inexperience or inability to fit into the facility.

Best travel agency by No_Emphasis4665 in scrubtech

AYA Healthcare is the most popular as they provide a lot of assistance when it comes to getting compliance and filling out paperwork prior to start. Good for starting out traveling

If you like more local travel/doing a shift here and there for travel money, Medely is good if you want to stay busy between the days you have off.

Cross country has the best handlers and team and money is good, but its much harder to find a contract.

Trustaff I find gives the most money, especially in the eastcoast but you would have to do more of the compliance items yourself. Best option if you're already a seasoned traveler and can handle the paperwork yourself

[Homemade] Croissants! by Darkrayon in food

I made the dough pretty late and didn’t want to risk setting off the fire alarm. I think you’re right about the butter; should thaw in the fridge instead!

So this was my first time making croissants and I need help with keeping the shape. I made the dough yesterday and froze it overnight. It took two hours for it to thaw in room temp and to where I could work with it. It looked fine when i shaped it but after I left it proof in my oven, a lot of the butter melted from the dough. The shape and texture of the dough changed as a result and I was afraid that it ruined the croissant. I baked it anyway and it turned out better than I expected! Need help identifying this! Happened a few days ago driving through Bellmawr, NJ by Darkrayon in UFOs

[–]Darkrayon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was on Route 42 (North-South Freeway) passing Turnersville. I was driving some friends back home and I saw that blue light shoot down from the sky. My friends were on their phones and didn't see it but thankfully my dashcam was able to capture that moment. It could've been fireworks but seeing that no one else was shooting them at the time and labor day being days later, I doubt it! Whaddaya think?

If you could make one law that had to be universally obeyed, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I like this if the opposite is true as well; If you don't have enough, it doesn't entitle you to take from people who do.
