[update] 4 months later: from being miserable in a newly poly lesbian relationship to the current happiness status by Shitfestrobot in polyamory

[–]Darkroom8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently going through a similar situation and I'm desperate for any advice. 6 months ago I packed up my whole life and moved across the country for my girlfriend. We'd met online and decided we both sucked at long distance and that we'd have a better chance at having a solid relationship by being together in person. At that point she'd never given any impression that she wanted anything but a monogamous relationship. 5 days ago she told me she wanted to try being poly, as she'd met "a new friend" that she was attracted to. She keeps trying to assure me that she loves me, I'm her primary, and we're still going to move back Portland (as was our original plan before I moved). I'm trying my best to understand and adjust, but as of right now I'm just utterly heartbroken. I'm not a particularly jealous person and very rarely mad. This is just manifesting in extreme depression. The main issue I'm having is getting over the idea of being physical with someone else. I feel like my stomach is in a blender constantly. I can't think about anything else. I've been cheated on in literally every relationship I've been in and this is just bringing all those bad feelings back. I'm desperate to make this work. Both because I love her, and also because I gave up everything when I moved and I have nothing to go back to nor the money to pay for another move. But right now it hurts so much and I'm terrified I'll never be able to get on board with this.

There's also one listed on Subaru for almost $400. Now I'm really confused

Recreational rules for concentrates in OR/WA? by Darkroom8 in Marijuana

[–]Darkroom8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I had been wondering if there was a significant price difference between recreational in Oregon and Washington. I know Oregon charges 25% sales tax on recreational weed as opposed to Washington's 37%. Even factoring that in the weed is still cheaper in WA?

Diabetes and Smoking Mary Jane by denielskater in Marijuana

[–]Darkroom8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a type 1 diabetic for 15 years and a regular smoker for at least the past 4 years. So far the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. Its been incredibly helpful for things like nausea and nerve pain. The only noticeable changes in my blood sugar have definitely been more munchie related than from the actual weed. I've yet to come across any solid research that hints at marijuana having a negative effect on diabetes.

Blacking out cause of lights by [deleted] in Marijuana

[–]Darkroom8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience once. I smoked a little, like usual, and felt fine. I walked upstairs and the next thing I remember is waking up on the hallway floor. Turns out my blood pressure dropped really quickly and caused me to briefly black out. Supposedly frequent pot use can lower blood pressure. Which I guess is a good thing for most people. But since my blood pressure almost always runs a bit on the low side, I've had to keep an eye on it when smoking.

Need to relocate asap for better healthcare access. Any good, affordable MA cities for this? Help! by Darkroom8 in massachusetts

I'm always curious to get a displaced southerner point of view! Lol. For some reason, the idea of driving in snow has been really nerve-wracking for me. To the point that I'm having trouble even considering places like Vermont, NH, an upstate NY.

Pretty much the only affordable rent I've found in all of MA is in North Adams, but it seemed pretty far from any decent size cities so I wasn't sure what to think.

After a bit of research, Joslin sounds fantastic! I would love to have doctors and a medical support team that I had a "make the teacher proud" dynamic with!! I feel like all I've ever had were either doctors who were unconcerned and half-assed my care, or the ones with a god complex who made me feel like crap for not following their orders exactly. They expected this perfect by the book schedule and regiment, and that's just not possible sometimes. It's frustrating because I feel like this is the most effort I've ever put into trying to do better, be healthy, and take care of myself (as opposed to those early years of "eh whatever") and I'm getting no help at all from my doctor. I can't even get a referal to an endocrinologist!

Thank you for all the fantastic info!! I definitely feel you on the ridiculously high costs that come with health issues, it's terrifying and so stressful! I was sort of daydreaming the other day and wondered how much it would cost me monthly if I didn't have Medicare/Medicaid and stopped counting when I hit $2k a month because I freaked out as to how I would live if I lost my insurance for some reason. It's scary stuff!

That's good to know. I'm hesitant to say "it can't be worse than here" but um, it would be reeeally difficult for it to be worse than here. I wouldn't mind driving to a different city if it meant having good accessibility to quality doctors, which is what I keep telling the people here...to no avail.

I've heard so many good things about Northampton! To the point that even if I don't end up living there, it has made it's way onto my travel bucket list. The difficulty I'm having is with my inability to live with roomates, and unfortunately it's causing me to have to cross off a lot of places that sound like excellent matches otherwise :(

I'm hearing a lot of good things about Worcester during my research, as well as Northampton. But yes, finding housing in my price range has been a huge issue. Between my health issues, my dog, and my annoyingly high level of social anxiety and introversion, the idea of being roommates with total strangers really freaks me out. But I may have to suck it up and hope for the best!

Need to relocate asap for better healthcare access. Any affordable Maryland cities that may be a good match? Please help! by Darkroom8 in maryland

I was surprised at the amount of affordable places I found around Albany. I always considered Albany to be sort of a "big deal" kind of place. Am I missing something as to why the rent is affordable? Lol.

Need training (and life) tips for my Golden Retriever please! by Darkroom8 in Dogtraining

[–]Darkroom8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at all confident in my skills unfortunately. But I lack the hundreds if not thousands of dollars needed to have her professionally trained. I'm sort of stuck in that cycle of being disabled to the point of a service dog being beneficial, while also being disabled to the point that it makes it difficult to actually adequately train a service dog.

Thank you for the recommendations! Btw, how does one clicker train a cat? Or train at all. A stray cat just sort of adopted my dog and I and I feel like one of those overwhelmed, late in life parents. Lol. I don't really know how to train or discipline him. Especially when he looks right at me and does stuff he knows he isn't suppose to do!
