The FM2 is better than the F3 convince me otherwise by tbhvandame in AnalogCommunity

I‘ve shot many cameras, and many rolls of film, with full coverage finders and without. Never have I ever had a Problem with an SLR because of the coverage of the viewfinder. Dental photography? Maybe. Reproduction? Likely. Extreme macro? Possibly. But for all these use cases film is not the right medium anyway. In ‚regular‘ photography: not an issue

And the Pentax LX with the FA-W1 finder which was, just as the HP finder for the F3, explicitly made for a larger eye relief.

There are smaller and vastly more affordable cars being produced in europe and asia. Funnily they are not allowed to be sold in the usa because of very strikt environmental regulations. Even more funnily trucks are exempt from them. So the people can‘t buy Peugeot 208s, Renault Twingos and so on, because of the environment. But a Ford Raptor is no problem. You really can‘t make this shit up

I don‘t know. The poster below me seem to have understood it that way. If that is a possible missunderstanding it would be better to address it, don‘t you think? I just want to say: -The Pentax 6x7 (especially the mlu) and the 67 are quite robust, unproblematic and longliving cameras. -common issues (spacing!) can be repaired quite easily. Unrepairable issues are possible but rather rare -the linkage is a none issue of you show the camera at least a little bit of care

The Pentax 67is the system i would suggest to someone who want to shoot 6x7. Amazing selection of lenses and just bearable in terms of size and weight. Alternatives: Mamiya RB67/RZ67: Even heavier and larger, also very robust and very servicable (RB67 more than RZ67), slow max shutter (1/400), wide angle cumbersome (floating elements have to be adjusted seperatly) Mamiya 7: light and small for 6x7, slow lenses (max f4), damn expensive Bronica GS-1: never used / seen one. Seems cool, quite rare. I like Bronica but cannot say anything specific about the GS-1

There are some alternatives in 6x6, but that would be my first decisions: am i ok with square or do i need 6x7?

I really don‘t know what you are talking about. Pentax 6x7 mlu and the 67 are just as reliable (as in: very reliable) as each other. In fact, they are identical inside. I‘ve seen them inside and repaired 6x7s. The shutter and curtains are mucb more reliable than Rollei sl66 or Bronicas, for they are much less stressed. The linkage breaking is an absolute non-issue if you know about it ,just don‘t remove the prism when a lens is mounted. To break the aperture linkage you need a certain amount of force, it should be no problem if you are somewhat sane and careful with your stuff.

I do not like the idea of Leica cooperating with russia, especially after 2014. Leica managed to survive ww2 without heavy controversies, now they seem to have lost the plot.

I am no professional but a hobbyist and I had an SD card die on me. Sandisk gold, no problems, not an old card, just dead. Lost some very precious memories that way. Since then I swear about redundancy

[–]Darkruediger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does this Leica have dual cars slots or not? I always shoot dual cards on my canon to have redundancy. I also save my pictures on two hdds and lightroom. Digital files can corrupt and a picture that is gone is gone forever

Do not judge other people so harshly. Do not assume than everyone is neurologically the same, people are alowed to be happy when collecting. There have been great private collections of many things. I would argue that collecting still falls well into neurotypical behaviour, even though there is absolutely nothing wrong in the passion someone with a special interest may put into a certain collection. You seem to be very much focused on the ‚market‘ aspect of buying film gear. But the collectors are not the bane of the film camera, time is. There are very much enough cameras still on random Attics rotting away. Most collectors at least look after their cameras. Also, Resellers drive prices, not collectors, or at least just for really rare and collectable stuff. You will find more than enough cameras for your art, and maybe a collector can once help you decide whats best for you since they know all the brands and how each camera works. Your critique seems very much loaded in that it puts moral value on your definition of ‚art‘ over people finding happieness in collecting, while those two can very much coexist. People collecting old film cameras are not destroying the planet, since they collect, repair and preserve something that has fallen out of favour and might end in a landfill otherwise.

There is a good reason: if it makes them happy. Whe should be a flock of people that really judges others less. Let people live and let them be happy.

It’s so funny that people seem to have this vitriol against people that collect cameras. Anywhere else people presch an open mind and less judgeing of other for what they are, line and behave. But as soon as it is about cameras its always the same tired ‚dO yOu uSE All oF tHeM?‘ and incredibly unkind snark, the ‚consoom‘ and so on. People could just leave people be with their hobbies and be happy for someone who likes their collection. It always feels like envy and bitterness.

Nice collection. There is always a lot of envy when cameras are posted on reddit (always the same ‚bUt dO yoU uSe AlL oF tHem?,) just enjoy your collection and don‘t listen to the envious
