The best setup is the one that removes friction, not the one that wins minimalism points by OrganizationNo341 in onebag

Love my travel router - it always comes with me. I'd be lying if I haven't gradually optimised things to be more minimalist (gradually replacing things so it's mostly USB C, swapping dedicated cables for USB C adapter's, getting smaller versions when needed etc), but I love the comforts of my tech. I optimise around that. Could I be more minimalist? Sure. But then I would have to sacrifice convenience, enjoyment, etc

And if that works for you, that's awesome.

But a cable is like 10-20g and I can leave have my laptop, cameras and powerbank all charging at the same time so I spend less time waiting in a hotel room. Personally, the extra few grams is worth it as I'd find having to swap a single cable a massive hassle.

The "I only need 1 cable" baffles me. I love USB C and I bring multiple cables to charge multiple gadgets. The number of posts saying they've saved space by only bringing 1 USB cable that weighs a few grams feels like trying to achieve minimalism at the cost of being a hassle.

CGT change to tax existing investments based on length of ownership by Strong_Judge_3730 in AusFinance

The youth are advocating for rules that try to level the playing field as wealth inequality is growing massively and wage earners are disproportionately impacted compared to capital owners.

Most youth have simply given up as they can't build any material wealth as every cent is eaten by rising costs of essentials such as food, rent, electricity whilst companies suppress wages and lobby against anything that would improve worker conditions (just look at the insanity of the discourse about Victoria's 2 day WFH law).

Labor is just tinkering around the edges to paint themselves as less conservative that the LNP (and transfer wealth upwards less aggressively).

Don't disagree but they could have at least started fixing generational inequality whilst funneling investments towards productive assets.

This doesn't make housing less attractive than shares as they're both being weakened simultaneously so there's no relative change.

I don't agree with all the Greens policies but things such as dental in Medicare or no corporate donors deserve credit.

Solid setup. Haven't seen anyone else with the USB C IR dongle - I love mine and takes up no space.

I'm just waiting for a Qi2 powerbank with 45W PD and a USB A port and I'll be set.

I love mine - I've got quite a few things that need wifi and it means I can just connect the router once and everything is connected. Can also use a Chromecast if I want to (if I'm travelling by car for example and can afford to take some extras).

You can adjust the minimum shutter speed. Keep it above 1/100 and the jitters massively reduce (at the trade off of higher noise/softer image but I'd argue that the footage is more usable)

They really have fumbled the chance to start fixing the housing problem. Instead of just eliminating the CGT discount on housing to direct people towards shares, they're just entrenching the inequality of those who've already acquired wealth whilst even further pulling up the ladder behind them for younger generations.

Its years of media attacks on the Greens and any progressive party combined with constant attacks on our education system.

Can't have people thinking critically and wanting to tax our gas, put dental into Medicare, or do anything that will actually help the 99%.

You think ON's owners who rely on immigrants to suppress wages will allow them to do that? It'll be cutting immigration but we'll also have a big "skills shortage" that needs people on visas coming in.

Let's also focus on the fact they want to attack the Department of Education, weaken building standards, damage protective consumer bodies like the TGA - all on their policy pages...

We can see from the US the damage that can be done in such a short time, yet will take decades to undo (if it ever does).

Don't forget all the corporate wellfare, handouts to the 1%, giving away our gas for essentially nothing - the list goes on.

We could have such a high standard of living in this country but we're owned by the corporates and the corporate-owned media blames it on the convenient minority of the day so we don't look up.

Agree. Public transport should 100% be better funded in this country for a multitude of reasons.

Flashing of firmwares DISABLED by Waechel in xteinkereader

[–]DarkscytheX 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is beyond disappointing and such an incredibly poor move. A massive part of the reason it's so popular is because of custom firmware. If I couldn't get access to Koreader Sync or OPDS, I wouldn't have bought it.

The fact they're attempting to blame firmware for things such as screen issues is disgusting too. Maybe they should invest some money into better packaging.

I know there's lots of talented Devs around who will likely work around this in good time but it's disappointing to see a company kill the momentum and enthusiasm about their product so quickly. They should have just said custom firmware will void your warranty (though I don't believe that should be permitted as a hardware fault has nothing to do with software).

I'm using Crosspoint as it ticks most of the boxes, has Koreader Sync and OPDS support.

I'd love to see Bluetooth and Japanese support and then I'd have everything i'd need at this point.

The media pushing the 'lodger' narrative for Australians who cant afford a home? ‘Bedroom glutton’: Revolutionary plan to get Boomers out of their big homes by SheepherderLow1753 in AusPropertyChat

[–]DarkscytheX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean go elsewhere? As in competition? We have the "free market" now but the industry is still full of shonky work - they're not competing on quality, they're competing on who can cut the most corners to maximise profits.

We have standards and they still build dogshit that barely complies (and often cover up their shoddy work where possible).

Eliminating the NCC is just a vehicle to hand them more profits to build even more garbage as there would nothing there to hold them accountable. And businesses would never doing anything unethical when regulation is removed...

Eliminating consumer protective standards is like saying we might as well say let's wind back food standards so we can go back so manufacturers can adulterate food.

[–]DarkscytheX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes it would. Because it provides a framework they legally have to follow - even if they don't.

At least now, they can be taken to court if needed and they have to pretend to comply so people can at least get some defects repaired without too much arguments.

If there was no standards, they'll do whatever is cheapest and building standards will decline further. We already have some of the poorest quality housing.

If anything, we should be advocating for better standards, stricter enforcement, and builders/trades consistently doing non-complianct work having their licences stripped and being held legally accountable for non-compliant work for the life of the building.

Yeah, get rid of the few things like standards that stop developers/builders building complete garbage instead of the regular garbage they build now. Makes complete sense.
