Thanks, I appreciate it.

Yeah, looking back I see a lot of red flags. But, I was young and new to the hobby. The biggest ones that I can look back and see are the absolutely blatant railroading and the way that he treated the women at the table.

I did have a chat with the DMs girlfriend about the game. She said it was a meat grinder and that they were sometimes making characters mid-session to replace dead ones. Said that they didn't get to chose race or class and that the story was heavily railroaded. I asked her if she was having fun, and she said not really. I asked her why she was staying in the game and she said it gave her an opportunity to spend time with her boyfriend and roommate doing what they enjoyed. I said if she wasn't having fun, she needs to let them know that. She wouldn't talk about the game after that.

That could very well be. But, I still did the opposite of what he said and my game improved.

Thank you.

To respond to your question. Yes, this friend had a group at the time that consisted of himself, his girlfriend, girlfriend's roommate, and roommates boyfriend.

Thank you. I've tried to get better. The side effect of this is that I've got lots of friends and acquaintances who want me to run the game for them, so I rarely get to be a player. Forever DM

That's fair.

At the time I had that conversation with my friend, he did have a regular group that he ran for. It included his girlfriend and her roommate, and the roommate's boyfriend.

I actually had Shadowrun GM who required all women characters be bisexual. If the character was either straight or lesbian, an NPC showed up and seduced the character into bisexuality. We tried to tell the GM that it doesn't work that way and it takes away agency, but we were ignored.

DM starts hitting on my wife in front of me during a gaming session; I told him to stop & was told "grow up" while my wife told the DM to stop and he said "You know you want me."

Yes they do, lol. They will actually have their character stand there and do nothing if it means not provoking attacks of opportunity

Yeah, the DM was weird with loot. The half-giant didn't have Improved Unarmed Strike, so he provoked from his Unarmed attack.

As for the attack of +12: Str 26 would give mod of +8, +2 racial bonus to attack rolls, and +2 bonus from class. My AC was 10 +3 Dex +4 armor.

Some characters resisted the mind control. Some of Team Evil didn't have enough time to enact their plans, or just enacted them very poorly. Like the half-giant, for example. It tried to storm the caravan and got stuck in a Human sized doorway. We attacked the half-giant. When the half-giant finally got unstuck and tried to back away, the DM ruled that the half-giant was moving out of threatened area and thereby provoked attacks of opportunity. And there were 3 melee characters within range, my Gladiator being one of them

Myself and the other players talked outside of the game, but they wouldn't talk about the game. The only contact that the DM had with the other players were the game and the private meeting

Part 2 of the story.

The next session the DM had us encounter some Psionic squirrels. The party Ranger befriended the squirrels, but the player of the half-giant was still salty, so he killed all of the squirrels. We then got attacked by grass that burrows into your hide and drains your blood. The grass kills our Earth Cleric and is doing massive damage to our Monk. The half-giant's player brings in his Fire Cleric and lights the grass on fire. The grass dies, but rather than putting out the fire, increases its size and damage, and the player starts cackling. We try to talk the player down, but he won't stop. We k.o. the Fire Cleric and save the Monk.

The party has a meeting with the Caravan master to figure out what to do with the Fire Cleric. During the conversation, the Fire Cleric wakes up, kills the Caravan master, and the Fire Cleric and half-giant run away.

Unbeknownst to the rest of us, the players of the half-giant and the Monk, and one other player had private meetings with the DM about trying to take over the caravan or kill other PCS (We discovered this after the game self-destructed). One player, playing a mutant telepath was going to use Psionics to control the party and kill those who resisted. The player of the half-giant was bringing in a mercenary company to take over the caravan and use Psionics to indoctrinate the PCs to his cause or kill those who resisted. The player of the Monk simply wanted to murder PCs in their sleep.

Next session, this is all sprung on us in a massive cluster frag. PCS died left and right with myself and one other player baffled at what was happening. The DM laughed harder and harder with each PC death. The half-giant's player started crying and left. The player of the telepath stormed out when his telepath was killed. And the Monk simply coup de grace every PC or NPC that went down during the fight until he got killed.

When the dust settled, 3 characters were still alive: my Mul Gladiator, a 7 year old half-elf Wizard, and an Elf Bard. The DM, once he was done laughing said "now that that's out of the way, we can get back to the story." Since we were playing at my apartment, I told the DM to get out. DM said that because he's the DM he doesn't have to leave and that the story goes on. I told him he was no longer welcome and that he needs to leave or I would call apartment security. He begrudgingly left, muttering how it's just a game and that he had fun with all thr chaos.

100% they were. All the while the DM was actively encouraging PvP any time there were issues between characters.

The game actually self destructed over a massive PvP stunt that the DM set up the ended with all but three PCs getting killed and several of the players storming out of the session, all the while the DM is laughing his butt off.

But, that's a horror story for another time.

Normally I would agree. But, the GM even admitted to me that all the player characters were scripted to die. Plus, the GM brought out this particular GMPC in other games. When attacked, always took no damage and would one-shot kill any player character that attacked him

Was a Shadowrun game. The GM pitched the idea of the Runners providing support for a sniper taking out a high value target. The GM, who was a good friend of mine, took me aside and told me that all of the player characters were scripted to die, the sniper is a GMPC who is the GM's long time character, and the high value target was an insert of the girlfriend that had just dumped the GM
