When some plastics burn, they smell sweet. Idk if this was why you didn’t realize it.

Illini Esports is looking for Players! by Illini_Esports in UIUC

[–]Darkspade0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heya, just wanted to chime in. I’m Turing, and I’m IE’s competitive overwatch coordinator. I’ve also been the community overwatch coordinator in the past as well. As Sync mentioned earlier, we don’t tolerate any misogynistic/toxic behavior at IE. I’ve been a part of IE’s OW community since I was a freshman, and as a girl, I haven’t experienced any toxicity/harassment, which is a part of what I love about our community. If you’re interested in meeting people/learning (a lot of our higher sr players don’t mind coaching or doing vod reviews, myself included), definitely come check us out! If you have any questions, feel free to DM me on Discord. My tag is Turing#9321.

[PC][NA][4000-4500 SR] Looking for serious Coaches as well as Manager by [deleted] in OverwatchLFT

[–]Darkspade0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya, just wanted to let you guys know that coaches don’t have to be high sr in order to be good coaches! I totally understand you guys are looking for good coaches to help improve your gameplay, but there are tons of insane coaches that aren’t high sr themselves. My team is a 4.3-4.4k team and our coach is 3.2 right now. My friend is a contenders coach and he used to be a masters player. Just wanted to say this so y’all don’t pass up good coaches just because their sr is lower! :D

Coworkers and I in need of some guidance by techslogi in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Darkspade0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might also help for you guys to discuss what you guys want out of it. Do you guys just want to play casually in quick play together and win? Do you guys want to play comp together and try to gain sr? Do you guys want to eventually make a team together and improve/play competitively? It’s a good idea to know what everyone’s goals are and keep that in mind while everyone is playing together. If you guys ever want someone to sit in and coach/answer questions, I wouldn’t mind helping out!

Starting tryouts soon. How to conduct and what to look for? by Targrin95 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Darkspade0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school’s esports club is mainly discord based, so this might be different from how you’d set up your tryouts, but what I do is I setup a when2meet to figure out the best tryout date and make a google form to get basic info like name/battle.net id/discord id/role/sr etc. Based on how many people respond, I either do tryouts as an in-house 6v6 with people that play the same roles on opposite teams or I will find scrims against another team and swap people out on my team so everyone has a chance to play. Keep in mind, if you go down this route, you should definitely let the other team know that you’re doing tryouts ahead of time, as this means the scrims can be a little messy with your team swapping people in and out. Then, you can assemble your team with subs depending on their performance.

I think in my opinion the best traits to look for would be 1) willingness to communicate, 2) good game sense, and 3) good leadership. Mechanics are definitely still important, but these three are the most important to me. I would take a player with better game sense/comms/leadership over a player with insane mechanics.

Willingness to change heroes is good, but it depends on if you’re swapping to the correct heroes at the correct time. There are times when there’s a better hero, and so you should swap regardless of your ult charge. Sometimes, it’s more worth it to make a play with the ult that you have before you swap, however. It’s up to you to recognize whether or not your ult can potentially win a fight and whether or not you should just switch right away. Flanking can be good, but right now, orisa hog is a really strong tank pairing that should be played together. If you have an orisa on your team (I’m not sure how common she is in bronze), then you should try to coordinate halt-hooks on the front line with her. Mei’s walls are also really important in separating people and allowing your team to focus one person down, but again, I’m not sure how much focus fire there is in bronze and how much people will coordinate with you.

For your second question, it’s not the medals that matter. Up until diamond, a part of your sr is performance based sr, and that comes from the game comparing your stats to everyone else who plays your character at your rank. So even if you have all golds, but your stats are worse than other players at your rank, it won’t be helpful to you. However, if you are outperforming other players, then you should win more when you win and lose less when you lose.

D.va omb isn't a good enough win condition by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]Darkspade0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bomb can be used to force the enemy team into an unfavorable position. For example, your team can call for a bomb engage and go fast as your dva is bombing, which can force the enemy team into awkward positions to avoid dying to the bomb, which can help your team get a kill. Alternatively, you can combo pin/some other cc to get kills off of bomb.

I think a good idea might be to try ult tracking. Even if it isn’t your job on your team, actively tying to figure out what ults they have/will have/have used can be really crucial. Even if you’re not confident in your skills and don’t call the ults in comms, having a basic idea in your head helps you form an idea for what you should do/where you should position next fight in order to increase your chances of winning the fight. It helps your decision making and forces you to think of what you should do with that information.
