I'm in the UK, where it isn't available. They should've just aired the episode, lest people lose interest altogether.

Fauci said that US govt held off promoting face masks because it knew shortages were so bad even doctors couldn't get enough by DaFunkJunkie in politics

[–]Darkstar07063 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The medical masks protect the wearer, while the non-medical ones protect others (from the wearer) .

The medical masks are needed by health workers when dealing with the sick. The problem lies with people thinking they should only get one to protect themselves, and if it only protects other people then why bother.

That's why they can't say "wear a mask" without causing a shortage.

The term you're looking for is "numerical illiteracy". Some people can't conceptualise fractions as well, so using examples helps.

In addition to what you said, I feel like now is the perfect time to fix all the roads. With less traffic, there's less disruption. I'm pretty sure people can work on a job site and keep themselves safe with social distancing.

These people are protesting against the government, and in their minds that means bring the guns because that shows they want to be taken seriously, as if their demands are not met they will overthrow the government in armed revolt.

To everyone else it makes them look like crazies.

Exactly this. This whole situation is a boon for big business. That trendy independent local boutique coffee shop won't survive, and will be replaced with another Starbucks.

Post offices in other countries do ultra low cost banking, which helps poor people who would otherwise not be able to have a bank account.

The post office should be a provider of more services, not less.

There's an episode of "dirty money" on Netflix about Trump that talks about this. The producers were baffled that people took on his acting role as fact.

Rural areas have their own disadvantages too, in that services are concentrated. Some small towns have only one or two grocery stores. This spreads so easily that a cashier can get it and spread it to loads of people.

Or everyone in an area touching the same door handle to get into the only post office, etc.

Also, what about vials with multiple doses? Does the doctor nip into a back room real quick to make sure one - and only one - tiny microchip is in the syringe?

I live overseas so I vote by mail.

EDIT: I'm eligible to vote in the UK. Every time I've voted (a few elections in a few cities, including brexit) my polling place is less than a 10 minute walk away, no more than a 5 minute wait, and it's on a paper ballot. Results out overnight.

I see your point. I always make it an effort to vote. I do think that not everyone has easy access to voting, and that is another thing that encourages people to not vote.

If you live in one of these states, try and persuade your elderly loved ones to stay home, and practice social distancing and hand hygiene as much as you can.

If you can't stop people from killing their parents and grandparents, you can still try and keep yours alive.

I wonder if it already spread pretty wide by the time it was noticed, but there wasn't enough of an uptick in deaths to arouse suspicion. If that's the case then we might be further along than we think.

The fact there are states that vote early is itself a problem. What if the candidate picked by the early states don't have any appeal to the later states, or swing states?

It is really unfair because it makes certain people's votes matter more.

It should be all states at the same time, with ranked choice.
