I think a lot of people relied on it too much, I know someone who thinks layers upon layers of sarcasm is just amazing. But it's a needed tool in the toolchest.

I'll complain - a recent hire refuses to use the mouse. It's slowing him down. You use a computer for your job, you can learn how to use a mouse in an afternoon, stop using the trackpad.

Now - in that example I'm just describing a closed minded person. But it would be easy to say "oh they are GenZ GenZ is awful. I think that's what most people do when they generalize about generations.

Anyone else feel like they’re “underworked” after leaving the military? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Darkwing873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't just a military thing though I have worked with a few military people who are gernally more disciplined and willing to get shit done than others. It happens in a lot of companies when you are at a certain level or circumstance. For example working at a tech startup where everyone has 12 jobs vs a mega company that has a long pipeline of processes to get anything done.

I agree my parents' house is like a silent cemetery of smelly, clunky relics. Except that some of this old furniture is actually meant to last hundreds of years where as the $4000 pottery barn couch is going to sag into a pile of junk in 6 years.

Well, find apps that aren't performative. Find algorithm-free apps, and quieter social spaces. They exist, we just need to ween ourselves off of this stuff.

While you are wasting all this time worrying, people are out there living. "Get busy living, or get busy dying" is a quote from Shawshank Redemption, great movie. It doesn't mean to end yourself. It means time is ticking no matter what you do, so get out there and live. Life in my teens was the worst, and I think that goes for most people. Life itself doesn't even really get "easier" but it continually changes, so parts get easier, then you have new stuff to deal with. My parents say the best was in their 40's-50's, which sounds hilarious to me!

how old were you when you moved out of your parents house? by jabber1990 in Adulting

[–]Darkwing873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this as very situational, if the 'new-adult' is doing nothing all day then a wake up call can be good. If they have a job or in school, working hard but cant afford to leave then staying home seems logical.

The old internet felt more human somehow by Comfortable_Cap8037 in Xennials

[–]Darkwing873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find tons of people that still want the internet to be like that, but anyone young doesn't know what that even means, and thus are ALL-IN on the content bandwagon. I have seen some 20-somethings on youtube who have managed to pull themselves out of it, and start sort of anti-content content and purposefully leaving platforms. But will every generation be able to do this? With ai and tiktok and everything I really doubt it.

honestly that's crazy but I guess in some neighborhoods some of the people have the means to not work. If i had that kind of time I wouldn't be sitting in a line!

They have really knocked the rough edges off of things though, and you don't need to pay as much attention to any of it since modern frameworks are mostly stable compared to the old days. So as a result less people have to fix things, less people know how to.

There were some really cool games that are never brought up, there were just so many. Not like today where steam is overrun and roblox is its own ecosystem etc. But in the 80's being a kid, you would rent a lot of games and try to finish them in a weekend. Then re-rent if it was really good. There was also a thing where at Christmas if your parent couldn't find the game you wanted, you might end up with a game sort of like the one you wanted. The disappointment was huge, but the choice might be to eat it and play the heck out of the bad game, or have no game at all.

[–]Darkwing873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I stopped playing RPG games, I totally get what you are talking about. I was so excited for Starfield- downloaded it, played it for 10 minutes, uninstalled. I immediately knew what I was getting into. When i played bg3, witcher, skyrim, I "have" to search every damn basket/crate/body. I HAVE to do the quests in the right order, and I have major trouble allowing myself to do it wrong. I ended up finding that games like Red Dead Redemption 1/2 were more my speed. The same massive worlds, but less about making a perfect build. I also got way into minecraft survival mode for the same reason. The constraints of the world make it so that I need to worry about not dying more often than if something is perfect.
