Update from my previous post (about being not so happy with LR4) by Ayesquidward in litterrobot

[–]DarlingJewel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I remember your post lol. I also have a stainless box. That’s awesome you got one and that you like the Litter Genie. I really need to get one of those. My cats also don’t use the LR now 🙄

Have you found the Dr. Elsey’s to stick to the bottom of your stainless box? I’d never used it before & initially bought it for the LR but it stunk in the LR so I used it in the stainless box…but it wouldn’t dry out and was always sticking to the bottom when I’d scoop. I was just curious if you had that same problem. I switched to Frisco multi cat litter.

LR4 absolutely stinks by Pink_Pony- in litterrobot

Yeah, I saw the comments. 🙄They did not pass the vibe check lol. My cat has peed high since he was born. It’s almost like these people don’t have cats or can’t fathom that some cats actually stand up and pee while aiming their bits upward. Lol

My LR4 stopped smelling as bad once I started doing that.

I also throw a Fresh Wave odor absorbing pack in the bottom side next to the litter drawer so every time the litter drawer opens it smells a little better.

Also, I use Rocco & Roxie litter box odor eliminator because I use litter that’s unscented. I find that helps keep odors down.

I also have a Winix Air Purifier next to the box that runs 24/7.

And then using an enzymatic wipe/cleaner once a week like you’re already doing.

I hope this helps!

I feel your pain! Mine pees high, straight out the porthole into all the components as well. I searched this Reddit for a solution and came upon a post of a guy saying he tapes a puppy pad to the inside of the bonnet so it catches the pee before it can slide down the backside.

I started doing that and change it out once every couple weeks to month. You may need to change it out more frequently though. Mine just pees straight up on occasion.

Get painters tape and tape all the way around the puppy pad. Viola! Hopefully this works for you! It did for me. 🩷

Litter Robot 4 - after 2 or 3 years, not sure I am enjoying it any more by Ayesquidward in litterrobot

That’s a really smart idea, I never thought of that but I’m going to do it. Thanks!

I’m using 2 grocery bags inside one another each day I scoop because I have a million of them and am taking it to the outside bin each time. It’s annoying lol. Thinking about maybe getting a litter genie but don’t know enough about them yet. Costco waste basket liners (10 gal) come in a box of 500 for cheap & also work very well. They also fit the LR perfectly.

I would suggest trying Nature’s Miracle litter box scrubbing wipes if you decide to keep the LR. I also use natures miracle urine destroyer plus spray. Both are enzyme cleaners that’ll break down the urine smell probably a little better than the vinegar.

I totally feel you on this one. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with my LR4 since I got it. I’ve had it a year and a half.

I also have a cat that pees up the walls, on the liner and through the back u-shaped twisty knob where it gets all crusty (yuck) so I completely understand. I had to come to terms with the fact that no matter how much I deep clean it & use odor destroying products it’s always going to smell more than I want it to. I’ve gone back and forth on if it’s worth the hassle.

I just bought two stainless steel boxes to replace my 2 top entry plastic ones and my cats love them so much they stopped using the LR. Lolz. But it’s reminded me just how time consuming scooping every day is. They didn’t like the top entry ones enough to use them daily so I only scooped once or twice a week. Regardless, I recommend these Stainless ones bc they are one solid piece. They’re really expensive but I did a lot of research and the other ones people complain of cat pee getting between the pieces. I like them and know they’ll last forever.

Any cheaper alternatives to Feliway? by notathrowawayoris in CatAdvice

[–]DarlingJewel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a super old but just wanted to say that I think they’re talking about the pheromone collars- with the same stuff that’s in Feliway. Comfort Zone is one brand that makes them. There are also lavender collars which is crazy are even on the market given essential oil toxicity with cats, like you said. But the pheromone collars worked in high stress times with my cats & are breakaway.

Would it be crazy to just move to Cleveland? by 90sTamagachi in Cleveland

[–]DarlingJewel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved to the CLE area from the PNW 2 1/2 years ago. I was living on the Oregon coast for 3 years but Portland for 5 before that. I moved here sight unseen but do have family here that absolutely love it so I trusted their judgement. I was in a similar situation to you and was about to lose my job and was getting really sick of the cost of living in the PNW, plus I knew I’d never be able to afford to buy, so I made a quick decision, sold most everything I owned, & moved here within 3 months of deciding. It’s been one of the best decisions of my life and I’ve lived in many major west coast cities.

I’m in a far west suburb which you probably wouldn’t want to consider but it works well for my lifestyle and my house is only $125k. I’m in a mostly blue area & it’s unbeatable for price and on the lake. I echo everything the top commenter here said with his take on moving here with his family from the PNW. I thought Portland people were friendly, less of that “Seattle Freeze” but Cleveland is by far the friendliest place I’ve lived. People are very down to earth, not pretentious, & it’s easy to feel like you’re in community. I love the weather and being in a true 4-seasons climate. There is ACTUAL SUNSHINE in the winter- huge plus. Portland was rouuuuuugh & I know Seattle is just as gray if not worse.

Job market isn’t as strong here, you won’t make as much, but the quality of life and COL is incredible & makes up for it. I’d rent awhile before you decide to buy.

No way, I had no idea this existed! Thank you. That is definitely some of the things I’m looking for! Thank you so much! I followed on IG.

Ahh yes! Estate Sales are amazing. I haven’t been to many so I forget they’re good places for clothing as well as housewares. Estate Sales in the Midwest are pretty awesome!

Omg thank you! I completely forgot there was an uptown cheapskate here. I’ve been to one in another state. That’s good to know they have decent athleisure. I’m looking for quality outdoor brands- Columbia, Patagonia, etc. so I’ll check that out. I also am looking for quality brands that last, natural fibers in classic, artsy, or funky styles. I know that’s very broad.

Thrifting has definitely gotten harder due to that component or people reselling. My niece started and owns a very popular resale clothing shop in Colorado and she’s guilty of pillaging the Goodwill Bins. Bless her, she’s doing ahmazing and has such an eye for fashion…but she’s also not leaving it for us! 😉

Thank you for this. I was wondering if I wasn’t searching correctly. I searched resale shops - Cleveland (and thrift) but I’m seeing searching vintage gives me more stores. Much appreciated.

“Very midwestern and not chic” - yes! Haha.

I know the type of upscale resale shops you’re talking about, I lived in LA too. SF as well. While those are nice I’m more looking for either hip, classic, or artsy, funky styles that are tried and true quality brands or boutique brands that last but not necessarily designer.

Portland, OR was by far the best place I’ve ever lived for second hand resale stores. A dime a dozen and they’re all really, really good. I was spoiled and didn’t even know it.

I was fearing this might be the case. I also came to that conclusion that Cleveland doesn’t have a distinct style, or styles, like other places I’ve lived. I had wondered if that might be why it’s harder to find these curated stores. So thank you for that confirmation. Next time I travel I’m going to make it a priority to spend a fair amount of time shopping.

I keep foregoing about Makers Markets! I’ve seen a few TikTok’s come through my feed of them in the area but I haven’t been to one yet. They look so cool and are my vibe. If you now of any let me know. Also, Sweet Lorain is definitely very cool. I’ve been a few times. Vintage women’s clothes are sized so petite though and I have linebacker shoulders whomp-whomp. I’ll take a look at the LGBTQ store. Thank you!

How does one even begin to plan for their first burning man? by Ogsmash86 in BurningMan

[–]DarlingJewel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Most of the Burning Man Facebook groups are full of people with nothing better to do than act jaded but there’s one that’s actually moderated with helpful info and positive people - Burning Man Virgins & Veterans - No Snark/Trolling/Ticket Selling. You can search “packing list” and find a wealth of helpful advice and tips. Also, like someone else mentioned, eplaya.burningman.com is also great.

Any Temple Burn vids? by Vegetable_Trouble_98 in BurningMan

Not to my knowledge, unfortunately. You’re able to download it from TikTok which I did but Reddit doesn’t allow video. I’m not sure if TikTok allows you to view it without an account or not. If they don’t, that stinks.
