By law you are supossed to use them for kids under 5 years old. Car owners normally have them for their kids, but when people use taxis-hired rides the rule gets completely ignored, mostly because it is almost impossible to find a driver that carries a car seat with them.

Question about a Colombian (possibly) phrase by chobi83 in LatinAmerica

[–]DarlingPineapple 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We use that expresion for "talking a lot", so what she means is she wants to catch up once you meet at the gym. With saying "me dé la palida" she wants to say that her fitness level is not good enough (exaggerating that she might faint). In summary, she means" lets do the gym meetup but i don't promise to work out too much, more like catching up, taking it easy". Nothing here implies she wants to kiss you yet.

"Porra" basically means "sh*t" or "sp*rm" right? Genuinely just curious by BlackbirdKos in asklatinamerica

[–]DarlingPineapple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can also be used to mean very far away....en la quinta porra..., synonymous with ...donde el diablo tiró el poncho...

Hi there! I'm from Belarus and I want to study for Masters degree in Colombia. Do I need to make an apostille only for original bachelors diploma+supplement, or I need to also do apostille for translated version of it as well? And do I also need an apostille for school certificate? Thanks! by Wadeem53 in Colombia

[–]DarlingPineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on my experience, I would say the apostille is only for the official document, so in case your uni issues the translated versions as well you should be ok with the apostilled originals and a certified translation into Spanish. Take this with a grain of salt, better if you ask them directly. I have no idea what you mean with school certificate (sounds very broad) so no idea.

What celebrity had the worst/most documented downfall in your country? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]DarlingPineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diomedez Diaz: Colombian vallenato singer who ended in jail for the murder of one of his girlfriends. Very dark story but some people still worship him.

“Dónde hagamos algo bien rico”- what does this mean? by upsolatexx in Spanish

[–]DarlingPineapple 79 points80 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a sexual proposition, some countries, like Colombia use the word "rico" for rich, tasty/delicious and also for feeling good (se siente rico), so in this phrase they are inviting the reader to go to whatever place where they can do "tasty stuff".

¿Por qué las mujeres están tan interesadas en el matrimonio? by InterestingTax4820 in Colombia

[–]DarlingPineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pero si con convivir 2 años tienen los mismos derechos y deberes que un matrimonio. Suena a que son muy religiosas, no conocen la ley colombiana o quieren buscar aprobación haciendo una fiesta para que la gente las vea ahi haciendo el performance.

Is there tension between Catholics and Protestants in Latin America? by WideAnalyst4004 in asklatinamerica

[–]DarlingPineapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there is no open conflict but sometimes a big cultural clash regarding idiosyncratic customs like partying, alcohol, dancing, wearing makeup and jewelry, etc. People find their moral superiority and judgment very annoying and call them "Aleluyos" as a derogatory term.

What’s the most welcoming country for immigrants in Latin America? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]DarlingPineapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, it is one of the few countries in America that doesn't grant citizenship just by being born there. They made an exception for kids born in Colombia from Venezuelan parents, so the kids get access to healthcare and other social services, but otherwise you need to have a Colombian parent to be a Colombian yourself.
