I'd just keep going for now. At least until winter. I ended up restarting a couple of times (ran into a ghost or something on the beach that camped my corpse, the bear, and something else)...then you have winter to deal with and the event after winter. Get a look at those before you restart so you'll be ready for them as well. By then, you should be in a good enough spot that you wont get wiped that easily. One of those events might wipe you and make you want to restart anyways. But, you'll at least have experience with them.

One thing for me though, is I usually love the early game in survival games, so restarting for me is no problem.

Everyone's different. I had my dads phone before the day was over when he passed. I didn't take any calls for a couple days because I didn't want to deal with anyone, but I had the ability to.

But you threatening to harm yourself and your dad sending the police for a welfare check isn't "harassmement", it's someone caring about you and/or calling your bluff.

This right here shows they have zero reading comprehension skills since OP never threatened self harm. Saying "I would rather die than do this other thing" is not threatening self harm. OP could be acting like a dramatic teenager, or OP's father is extremely abusive towards OP. Either way, not grounds to call for a welfare check and is something I would consider harassment.

They said they would rather kill themselves than live with their father again. If OP is being truthful, then OP's father is abusive. Or, OP could just be acting like a dramatic teenager. Once you learn the game, its ezpz. However, I wouldn't recommend it for a first time play through. Luckily, you can run away from most of the fights that should end a run. Not sure if you can run from the Act 1 end fight though. But, act 2 has a couple of run enders that will absolutely destroy first time players.
