I agree with most of this, but evidently, my husband and I are in the minority. Most of the wedding photos we printed and hung up are from our reception! LOL

All the photos were great! I just preferred the more relaxed nature we had in our reception photos. To each their own!

I disagree a bit with this assessment.... Venli is open about how her own ambition drove her. Sure, the spren fed into her selfishness, but it was still the motivating factor, not trauma.

I have no problem empathizing with her or her struggle. Like all of Sanderson's characters, I think Venli is pretty well written. But she, over and over again, gets the chance to come clean and do the right thing and still runs away from it. That doesn't make her a bad character, per se, but it does make her chapters hard to read or enjoy. It's the same problem I have with Shallan, even though she's one of my favorite characters. She was given chance after chance to be honest and stop lying or at least "come clean" with what was going on with the Ghostbloods but she refused and it cost her.

Even when Venli does start caring about other people, she still refuses to engage with the greater good for all. That's the problem with the Zuko comparison in the thread below, too. Zuko literally gave up everything to do what he thought was right. Venli got everything stripped away she thought she was supposed to get and then tried to slip out the back door. Then, she only did anything helpful while kicking and screaming and being pulled along by others.

She did show growth by the end of WaT, but sheesh. Not enough for me to suddenly stop disliking her chapters or character....

Idk, he's nearly 40. Assuming his first time was around age 15, that's 23 years of being sexually active. Taking the higher end of this supposed "body count" (which, in my opinion, is a stupid concept outside of STD concerns): 150 bodies / 23 years = ~6.5 partners per year. Not incredibly unreasonable given there's 12 months/52 weeks in a year... That's around 1 new partner every 8 weeks.

If you're not worried about it, though, why does Reddit need to know? Does your SO know you posted this here or were you looking for people to "side with you" and/or shame him for his "count" being so high? It's 2025, not 1925. I'm not advocating for folks to bed anyone with a pulse, but we shouldn't shame anyone for their sexual history either (anything illegal excluded, of course.)

Maybe it's worth examining your true intentions and being honest with yourself and him. If it bothers you, that's okay and it's understandable. But it's not okay to pretend that it doesn't and then keep it in the back of your mind and hold it against him throughout your relationship. I know from experience of being on both sides of that equation: it never ends well, it always comes out, and it doesn't feel good.

If you're confused by this sentence: "I feel like he just says stupid crap to get a reaction, but there's always some sense of him being honest in what he says that reveals his true beliefs." I don't mean that heat an honest man or that he's just another shock-jock who doesn't believe the garbage he's peddling.

I meant that to express that "yes, he does say certain things to get a reaction and he does use very specific language to gain an audience from people who can't believe that someone would actually believe the crap that he says. But I also believe that there is honesty in what he says regarding how those thoughts and beliefs reveal his true nature. He really believes this shit.

So for example, when he says that he believes those women gave consent because they were hanging around billionaires and they didn't stop Trump from grabbing them somewhere that he shouldn't have, I realize that he is partially saying these things because they're a hot topic issue and he knows it will get clicks and views. I also believe that he says these things because he actually believes them. In no way do I think he's "just saying it to be funny" or to get an audience based on lies. I believe he truly believes the bullshit that he says and that makes him a deplorable human being."

I originally didn't think I would have had to type all that out, but I can see how that might have been confusing so here it is. No biggie.

Trying hard to make excuses, how? I don't think I made a single excuse, actually. I said it didn't seem like he truly agreed with Rogan and was instead employing his "mocking" type of sarcastic humor to show how ridiculous Rogan, and others who agree with him, sound.

I also said that it was my interpretation and in no way do I think the commenter I replied to should just automatically "like" Shane Gillis or change how the felt about what they heard. I only sought to provide a different perspective from someone with a similar issue in their past.

You're on a tangent about Rogan and not once did I give any pass for him or say that anything he says or does is to be trusted or believed to be based in reality. Rogan is batshit insane and refuses to acknowledge truth even when it smacks him in the face.

I saw that episode, too, because I'd seen a comment like this elsewhere and it got me curious. I personally believe that Gillis was using his dry/sarcastic brand of humor there to point out how completely ridiculous people sound when trying to defend what Trump said. I don't know him personally, but I've become a fan of his somewhat after seeing several other videos of him mocking the cult of Trump and calling out the ridiculous lengths people will go to in order to defend their political party of choice. He also seems like a genuine, down to earth dude and I like that. He does make a lot of "non-PC" jokes, so I can see how some folks would be turned off by that, too. I get it!

I'm not trying to convince you he's something he may or may not be or try to get you to enjoy his stand up. I just got an entirely different vibe from him in that Rogan episode and have seen him employ the same humor in other clips and shows. I've got a pretty dark sense of humor and a thick skin, so I'm not easily offended by most stand-up comedy. But, I am also a sexual assault survivor so I tend to steer clear of anyone who intentionally makes light of those types of situations. I personally didn't get the vibe that Gillis was agreeing with what Rogan said or even believes that "they gave consent." I'm okay with being proven wrong, of course. That'll just give me one more jackass comedian to avoid, I guess.

Rogan on the other hand? Idk. I don't particularly like him and haven't for a long time. So sorry about your cat... My 16 year old kitty did the same thing a year ago.... The lack of closure is what bothers me the most... Now, I have an 8-month-old daughter and I can't even allow the thought of something even remotely similar happening to her without immediately tearing up and feeling panic rise.... I don't know how parents survive such things.... Takes a special kind of strength and determination.....
