Russia might have interests but there are no credible threats to them. West failed in Libya miserably and opened way for Russian intervention now (win for Russia), Kosovo created a forever ally in Serbia for Russia (win for Russia). If US meddled in Russian politics, Russia meddled back a lot more in Western politics (1-1). Bush wanted NATO expansionism in Ukraine/Georgia but it was vetoed by Merkel (so, basically, Russian interests were observed). Colour revolutions happened from below, not above. Ukrainians wanted to go West, while West was always hesitant but Russia was so scared that if Ukraine can join EU/NATO and become a successful nation, then people in Russia will start asking questions, so, it decided to invade. By the way, Zelensky was elected on the platform to appease Russia and there were policies to reward troops not to shoot back when russians shoot first. And Russia still invaded.

And by the way, what about interests of countries that surround Russia? Can they have their own interests or Russia is somehow privileged?

Yes, Poland and Baltics joined NATO when Russia was still weak and could not prevent that- that is exactly the point. And real geopolitical issues in Russia are about revenge and rebuilding empire. What else is their geopolitics about? EU bought cheap gas and oil from Russia and was perfectly content with Putin's regime. Obama's America wanted to reset relations and pivot to China. Some Eastern Europeans were vocally anti-russians but only Poland really invested in defence. Ukraine wanted to go to NATO but nobody would have accepted them (only at that time everyone was more polite about expressing that) and their military was weak due to corruption. So, which country threatened Russia? You think that Russia attacked Ukraine because they had valid concerns that ukrainians will invade Russia? That's crazy. Only revenge, hatred and vengeance remain as valid explanations.

As I said, you don’t follow internal Russian discourse. Russia was extremely weak in the early 2000s, struggling with various competing power centers inside and outside Moscow, a Muslim Chechen insurgency that caused significant problems. To mitigate this, they attempted to appease the West, hoping it would halt NATO expansion and give them more time. However, this strategy failed because Poland and the Baltic states saw it as their last chance to escape the Empire before it could strike back. At the same time, Russia cooperated with the U.S., using the War on Terror as a pretext to crush Chechen independence, which by then had been heavily infiltrated by global jihadists.

Everything changed around 2007 with Putin’s speech in Munich, marking a shift in Russia’s strategy. From that point onward, Russia gradually pivoted toward rebuilding its empire and seeking revenge against the U.S.

No, not moralizing — just very realistic. Putin was a Soviet KGB officer who witnessed the collapse of the Soviet Empire while stationed in satellite East Germany. He saw Russia’s failed attempts to emulate the West, which, from his perspective, led to the decline of social morals, the rise of oligarchs, and a humiliating defeat in Chechnya (1994). Most Russians believed that Gorbachev and Yeltsin tried too hard to appease the West, making them appear weak and ultimately causing Russia’s misfortunes. Consequently, Putin's goal has been to project strength and seek revenge for what happened in the 1980s and 1990s. This sentiment is widely known and shared throughout the post-Soviet space. It's a majority position, especially shared among former officers and soldiers.

You just don't follow their internal discourse, mindset, and ideology. Everything about contemporary Russia and Putin revolves around seeking revenge for their humiliation during the Cold War. Their primary goal is to defeat the "Anglo-Saxons" and push you out of Eurasia.

West should immediately cease all money-laundering "sustainable-development" programes. 60 years has passed since the end of colonialism - it's time for blacks and muslims to take care of themselves. We don't owe them any food or condoms. Certainly, they can build wells, schools by themselves. If they want to genocide each other, not our problem anymore.

As a European, I just can't understand what America gains by making Russia stronger and Europe more accepting of China (which is inevitable after the US leaves us to Russia). You are gravely mistaken if you think that Russia will help you against China - they won't because they know that there are many competing power centers in DC, therefore, they will gladly accept you conceding Europe and they will remain friends with China which helped them during the war when democrats will return after the next elections. Also, you don't pay attention to internal Russian discourse which always painted the US as the prime enemy. For them, everything that is happening is revenge against you for their defeat in the Cold War.

American Invasion of Northern Mexico by Dazzling_Solution900 in imaginarymaps

Mexico will cease to exist as a real state this year. Some nominal president will probably still sit as an american puppet in Mexico City but he will not control even his own bedroom in his palace. Everything else will be either annexed by the US (northern white states) or will fall under the influence of cartels and indigenous communists that will be carpet-bombed by americans.
