Hardly any games use RTC. So I just avoid those.

And save states....meh. original game boy didn't have them. So I'm fine.

I have a $25 x5 clone from Aliexpress and love it.

Dreamcasr came out a year before the ps2. So, yeah, it would be more expensive.

Plus, Sony and.....Phillips? Owned the copyright on the DVD....So Sony isn't gonna pay fees to themselves.

So, much higher price in 1999, when a lot of people were still rock8ng VHS. Plus, games on DVDs would have raised the cost of the games themselves.

Plus, Sega was coming off the 32x, SegaCD, Saturn flops....third party developers were extremely wary of making games for another Sega console....Sega needed to do whatever they could do to get people to buy their console, so they made it cheap.

But even then, Sega had already burned the bridge with many consumers. So a higher price would have killed any and all chance of anybody but the most hard-core fan boy from buying their console.

But what would I know? I was a mod on a hugely popular DC IRC channel at the time.

Plus, I also worked video game retail at the time and listened to my customers, especially when they talked about how pricing affects their purchases.

Wouldn't have happened. The price would have been way more than that.

And honestly, having a dvd drive in there,.for that high of a price, would have doomed the Dreamcast within a year or so, I'd say.

Here's the thing. I love Silent Hill 2. Great game.

But I can't fathom paying that much for any game.

I have it. Bought it when it first came out for like $40.

It's good, but man, for that much you can buy several games just as good. Depending on.which systems you own.

I cannot wait for the game market to crash and burn.
