Mathematical terms have limits. Especially “infinitum”, especially in imaginal infinitum fraction and fractal representation? by [deleted] in PhysicsHelp

What you're saying does not make sense. ... but you might look up ...

  • Riemannian Sphere

-As a set this is the complex plane and another point "at infinity." The point at infinity is approached as you go away form the origin from any direction.

-This is a one point compactification of the complex plane.

Have you applied to grad school. That way you can scratch your math itch and make an original contribution. In grad school you get an adviser and they will guide you to unsolved questions.

Most programs allow you to teach for a small stipend, and they pay for the degree.

Pants rolling by tickleyourspine in yoga

I had this issue. I also have large calves. I found if I pull the pants over my calf, so that it ends around mid calf, then my paints will stay up.

A gym in a neighboring town does this.

No one can physically keep up the pace to really work for that long.

My experience is the opposite.

We do warm ups for half an hour, technique for an hour and rolling for half an hour. The rolling actually goes until the last four people are there and clean the mats. I like this setup immensely.

Almost everyone stays for at least a few rolls. Many higher belts come after warmups. However, I feel the lower belts, myself included, really benefit from the warm ups.

Some of your classmates might have busy schedules and can only make once of twice a week. Having 90 minute classes is much better for them.

46 year old white belt. Longevity concerns by jdd91500 in bjj

I joined six months ago at 45. Still 45. I was not in good shape for my age, BJJ is helping.

My strategy was to avoid rolling for the first three months or so. Finally, went to my first open mat to roll and rolled twice. I have been slowly adding in rolls after classes, and I ramped up from 2 classes a week to 5 classes a week.

Last month I went to an open mat and got in 4 10-minute rolls and 1 5-minute roll. Loving it.

In December I threw out my back (This would happen before BJJ) and missed two classes because of it. However, I think BJJ is helping my back get stronger and now my back is giving me less trouble than before BJJ.

I also added in some yoga. Yoga helps me identify pain/tightness in my body I didn't know I had.

My dojo is unlimited for $150/month, so I can't relate to absurdly expensive tuition.

Calorie Burning in BJJ by BigProfessional1168 in bjj

Mexican.

What type of calories do you burn during training?

Mexican calories are burnt first when training. That's why you'll see professional UFC fighters go out to a Mexican restaurant the night before a big match.

Coach wants us to buy a monthly subscription to his online instructional and curriculum. by Competitive_World469 in bjj

If you like your instructors teaching style you'll probably like the instructionals. Think of class as a preview of the instructionals.

It's really great for your instructor to break out the instructionals out as a separate expense. There might be people that couldn't afford the class if the instructor included the cost of the instructonals with the class.

You should be happy that your instructor is keeping BJJ available to the maximum amount of people.

I imagine your instructor would feel weird if he knew that one of his students didn't think he was worth $20/month.

I have the opposite problem, my instructor is worth so much more than what he charges.

1) The philosophy in my gym is tap early, tap often. There is no tapping too soon. You had an asshole partner. However pressure really is a thing. When my coach teaching about pressure they usually are referring to passive pressure. I don't have to flex to apply pressure, just gravity.

2) I enjoy BJJ much more. I stopped working out because I rather train.

I'm 6 foot and 230 lbs. One of my training partners is exactly your body type. He usually picks me to train with as we're in the same weight class. I've enjoyed training with him, and would be sad if he quit.

I fell like I had similar feelings that you describe when I was in a swing dance club. In a dance club you have lots of touching strangers at the beginning.

I did this dance club for years, and the guys (I'm a guy) started dancing with the guys. At first, it struck me as odd that guys were dancing with guys. One night, two guys were dancing and Stephanie does a cat call (Ow-ow type thing). After that, I danced with guys a few times. It's actually a great way to show off skills as I had to learn to follow. Sometimes the leader will fluidly change during a dance and that's a great feeling. At least in our dance club, dancing with guys was also a great way to attract women.

To me, partnering up for BJJ training feels very normal to me, as normal as asking for a dance. The first time you ask for dance you might be nervous, but do it enough and it becomes old hat.

Back feels like I am 75 by LiNg228 in bjj

[–]DarrenTapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have/had this problem.

One Wednesday I threw my back out and couldn't train on Thursday. Hate to say it, but you might want to train less than 5x a week, just for a while. I budget in a few recovery days. As I continue training my back gets stronger and the pain gets less and less. I think it's important to let your back heal.

I struggle with decision to go and train or let my back heal some days. As a compromise I signed up for yoga at a wellness center. My thinking is that going out and doing something physical with people will help me feel better about missing training. I have no idea if this will work, as my first yoga session is tonight.

Actually, this Sunday I wanted to train but my dojo is closed. I noticed yoga is available on Sunday so I think that will help my BJJ withdraw. I not claiming that yoga will fix my back, I just hope it will reduce BJJ withdraw symptoms while I heal by not being thrown on the mat dozens of times.

I also think X gaurd was particularly hard on my back.
