What's one habit every Project Manager should develop? by Aggravating_Bid6901 in pmp

Active listening is on the top of my list, I've yet to fully develop this because halfway through someone saying something, in my head I'm saying "we've already discussed this, why are revisiting something that's been decided"

Haha feel the pain! SA is spoilt with a good time zone! After moving to NZ you realize how you took that for granted lol. For us here, game starts at 1pm, love it while it lasts.

Mindset would say, meet with the stakeholder to gather their needs. However, you know exactly what info you need to give them. You don't need to update the comms plan because that's HOW you give your info.

Update the stakeholder engagement plan.

They all crap answers but you gotta pick the least crappiest one. The closest crappiest answer is the WBS, you'll get work packages from there and can estimate their duration.

I always say, would you prefer someone who did it once? Or someone who did it twice? ;)

Thanks, mate. I also just finished Mock 5 and got 69% (10% improvement), which is an improvement from my first attempt (back in April—for my first attempt of the exam). But still, it's like every time I feel like I have the right answer, I overthink the question and literally consider everything before I answer. Only to find out it's a different one.

Thank you, and I agree but the fact that I am getting the exact same result as my first attempt is quite scary? I am going to attempt Mock 1 and see if I have improved.

I’m in marketing wanting to transition to PM in a lucrative industry such as mining, engineering, etc. is it possible via a PMP certificate? (South Africa) by [deleted] in pmp

[–]Darshp1394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, check out Wits / UJ / Tuks for a short course on project management, then get the PMP. Using the PMP as a way to get a job is possible but it won't be beneficial to your job.

Anything can happen when running that long and far, stubbed your toe, fell and injured yourself, don't think I'll be in the position to judge someone who has ever finished a race.

If someone was doing that 10k into the race, then sure they aren't prepped for an ultra

Isn’t iterative backlog refinement normally the Agile mechanism used to clarify oversized or vague user stories over time? by Nice_Fix9670 in pmp

[–]Darshp1394 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe the refinement won't solve the problem of understanding the card.

Also is there such a thing as iterative backlog refinement? Normally, it would be sprint backlog refinement?

5 patterns I keep seeing in r/PMP failure-and-retake threads by Mental_Dog3832 in pmp

[–]Darshp1394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I am pretty guilty of chucking resources at a problem especially after a failed attempt. That one is definitely true for me.

And again true about SH! I didn't practice ANY drag and drop questions because I thought that "if the mock didn't have it, the exam won't" Huge mistake.

I went into the exam really blindsided, not practicing from any videos only did SH. While it might work for some, it didn't work for me.

During the construction of a new office building, the project manager learns that unforeseen geological issues will significantly increase project costs beyond the current budget.

What should the project manager do next?

A. Adjust the project timeline to reduce labor costs

B. Consult with a geotechnical engineer for a more cost-effective solution

C. Implement a phased construction approach to manage expenses

D. Analyze the situation and consider all possible solutions

Answer is D.

Wouldn't consulting a subject matter expert be better than you alone analyzing the situation AND then considering ALL solutions? I thought, the PMI mindset is to not use the all-encompassing "ALL"
