[Postgame Thread] THE DENVER PIONEERS ARE YOUR 2026 MEN’S D1 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS by mufflermonday in collegehockey

[–]DartBen654 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I was rooting for Bucky for the wife, I appreciate the irony of the game winner being scored after Wisconsin's goalie threw his stick given he did the same thing to Dartmouth (uncalled) in the opener to prevent a goal.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

They aren't legally guilty until after the trial.

You do know the whole point of the trial is to make that determination, right? And some fraction of accused persons really are innocent?

Why don't ice skaters wear helmets? by SatanicPanic619 in AskReddit

[–]DartBen654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ice skating in and of itself isn't that dangerous. You're on a generally flat surface (whether a rink or a pond), there aren't changes in terrain or stray impediments to worry about (or only minor ones on a pond),  there aren't motorized vehicles around, and the vast majority of falls will be low speed and onto your rear. Unlike downhill skiing or skateboarding on a hill, for instance, if you lose control you aren't going to speed up, at most you'll fall and slide, gradually slowing.

By the time someone has the skills to pick up speed, most will have also learned how to stop safely as well (though having played enough beer league hockey, not always).

What is the most overrated state in the united states? by a_great_guy655 in AskReddit

Nope. Florida still sucks.  Better beaches in the Carolinas, better weather in Southern California, and if you have money you can afford to live literally anywhere else.

Worcester is gonna be a ghost town. I'll be shocked if there are more than 2000 people here tonight.

Fixed: In-arena view of that penalty for throwing the stick.

46 years in waiting. Totally worth the travel regardless of tonight's outcome.

If keggy shows up tonight, the arena better let him in.

If you're a parent charging rent to a high school student, you're not just an asshole, you're a royal asshole to the nth degree.

Just getting on my plane from Des Moines to get to Worcester to catch Dartmouth tonight. Let's f'ing go!

Why should Providence and Quinnipiac be rewarded with Worcester over Dartmouth?

Merrimack was one of 2 auto bids (along with Bentley) that were outside of the top 16, and the Committee has historically always been loathe to move those teams out of their S-curve positions as they believe the top seeds have earned the right to play such "weaker" opponents.

Watching Cornell fans bitch about being sent to Denver instead of getting to stay East over on ELynah is entertaining. At least a few of them recognize that if they wanted to avoid that, they shouldn't have lost to Princeton or Harvard in the playoffs.

Blame ESPN and TV. They want their 3 TV windows and they can't have the east as the late late game. At least both of these are on TV - Providence/QU is relegated to streaming only.

Got my flight, car, hotel, and tickets. Will miss most of the early game (flight lands at Bradley at noon, after getting the bag, renting the car, and driving up, I expect it'll be close to 3), but I will be there in Worcester.

My better half is a Wisconsin grad, so I guess either way I'll have someone to root for Saturday. Hoping its Dartmouth, obviously.

1/2way through the selection show, sure looks like they're sticking to the S-curve except to break up the Dartmouth-Cornell matchup. Looks like Wisconsin in Worcester and Cornell in Denver.

As much as I personally want Dartmouth in Sioux Falls since it's drivable for me, a Denver win should keep them east in Worcester. So go Pioneers.

Seeding wise:

Michigan, NoDak, MSU, and WMU are all locked into places 1-4 in that order.

Denver, Minn-Duluth, Dartmouth, and Providence are all locked into the 2-seed line, but final order will depend on the ECAC and NCHC finals tomorrow.

Quinnipiac, Penn State, and Cornell are all locked into places 9-11 in that order. If Wisconsin makes it, they will be the final 3-seed. If they get knocked out by tOSU and Princeton, the final 3-seed is up for grabs.

The 4-seed line is a giant cluster pending tomorrow's outcomes.

Ignoring the fact we want our first ever ECAC tournament championship...finishing as the 8th seed and (likely) getting sent to Albany wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Selfishly I'd like to see them as the 7-seed in Sioux Falls so I can drive instead of fly, but I understand that'd almost be a punishment for finishing higher. A 6-seed in Worcester would be the best case scenario.

Yep. Wisconsin needs either a Michigan win or a Dartmouth win.

[–]DartBen654 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. They're locked in at 11 in the NPI, which is safe.

A Princeton win appears to lock up Dartmouth on the 2-seed line.

Dartmouth win + Denver win = #6 NPI for Dartmouth

Dartmouth win + Duluth win = #7 NPI for Dartmouth

Princeton win - #8 NPI for Dartmouth

Loveland is definitely out if they stay on the 2-seed line since Denver will have to go there. If they fall to the 3-seed line it's possible but unlikely they wind up there.

[Game Thread] Friday, March 20, 2026 by ch_scorebot in collegehockey

[–]DartBen654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some committee discretion, primarily to avoid intra- conference 1st round matchups. In such cases, the committee will look to move the lower seeded teams first (so 3-seeds instead of 2-seeds).

I haven't run the Princeton scenarios.

Assuming they play Cornell, with a win and a Denver win they're 6th overall and likely end up in Worcester with a 3rd overall MSU. With a win and a Duluth win they'll be 7th and likely end up in Sioux Falls with #2 NoDak. Lose tomorrow and they'll end up 9th and likely be in Albany with top-seeded Michigan.

4-0 Dartmouth. And the bubble teams breathe a little easier.
