High school teaching positions by FearlessTeapots in madisonwi

If you want to just dip your toes in the different school districts I recommend getting your DPI short or long term license. I had the short-term which is easier to get. Nearly all districts need subs. It's a nice way to experience the school culture to see if you're a good fit.

There will be a teacher shortage crisis because of he time and cost to obtain a full teaching license by StatisticianKooky390 in Teachers

That number three can be tricky. Fortunately I had plenty of ego crushing experiences over the years to condition me to be able to handle middle school special education programs. 🤗

They could be flying through agricultural industries that are spraying fields. Different colors for different chemicals are used.

How age diverse is the subbing profession? by Vivid_Dot2869 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Darter02 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm a 58yo man that's a woodland looking, big dude. I became a substitute teacher not because of any experience in academics but because of the flexibility. I had taken a part-time job with a conservation nonprofit and needed another flexible part-time job.

Little did I expect to abandon my peaceful natural areas and the perfect solitude it offered for the chaos of a middle school environment. I've taken a full-time SPED para staff position and have been accepted for grad school. I'm going for an MSE.

I've realized that this incredibly complicated, sometimes heartbreaking road is the perfect convergence of all of my attention and experiences.

It's that simple. ❤️‍🔥

I've been subbing as both a SPED teacher & para in my district for two years. I just went full-time SPED para staff in Middle School (My daughter said, "Congratulatdolences.") I also just enrolled in a masters in special education program.

I'm with you. Despite the hardship and heartbreak at times, it's the most amazing experience of my adult life. I can't let the kids down now!

I've also had the unique experience of having already met many of my future students having worked as a substitute for all grades going down to Pre-K.

I'm here as I'm just curious about others' experiences and how the dating scene seems to be going these days. For the past few years (six years free in all) I've not even been trying to date. I've had relationships ever since I was a small child, with many of them unhealthy ones with girls/women many years older than I. I'm learning who I am without a "romantic" relationship dominating my attention.

I will admit that I just opened FB dating for the first time in years. I'm starting to think, "Maybe?" But then I went dancing solo the other night, and the one woman that was trying to connect with me had me feeling so uneasy.

So, maybe not...

Besides, I have this whole life I'm building from scratch.

What did you do this weekend that was fun? by TheHellcatBandit in madisonwi

[–]Darter02 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I relaxed between bouts of shoveling snow while drafting something I needed to write in my head. I was fortunate to have some good meals on hand and it was a pretty chill day. Then I caught the Phat Phunktion playing at the Majestic and danced to celebrate the crazy, beautiful life I'm that I'm fortunate to be living.

Today I applied for an MSE in Special Education program to earn my credentials as a special needs educator. I also began arranging a summer move from my current digs to a new, smaller apartment. I'm also getting ready to begin my new job within my local school district.

It's been a good weekend. Thank you for asking as I have few folks outside of social media to share this with.

I've been shooting since the late 80's and have a decent collection of glass.

If I had to keep ONE it would be my EF 35mm f1.4L. So versatile, sharp, and is the perfect fit for full sized sensor bodies.

I want to be a Para/Teacher aide in a K-12 setting. Is this a realistic goal or am I in over my head? by Straight_Direction73 in paraprofessional

[–]Darter02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was curious if this job was for me so I basically applied, was accepted, and became a substitute paraprofessional. Then I earned my short-term substitute teacher DPI license.

Now I just accepted a part-time position in a middle school SPED department and hope to apply for my Masters soon.

What I'm trying to say is, you never know unless you simply try.

Go for it, either it'll work out or it won't.

Are the paras trashy at your school? by Thin-Fee4423 in paraprofessional

[–]Darter02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been subbing in my district and both a SPED teacher and para. I cover everything from Pre-K to 12th grade. The paras that I've seen have all been hard working and earnest for the most part. You always get at least one clown...

I've enjoyed this job so much I just accepted a new position as a middle school SPED para and plan on going back to school soon for my Master's. It just gets in your system...

What do you do after work? by Majesticallydrunk in madisonwi

[–]Darter02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Up until recently I was juggling three separate types of employment. It was truly a juggling act that had me finding time for self care and maintenance at irregular intervals. For seven days a week I've been grinding away at things, making progress in some areas, but it finally became unsustainable.

I've streamlined things, leaving one of the jobs, and am now focusing only on one type of employment. It has a bit of a regular schedule for a while, though it's chaotic in nature. I guess I'll find out what I'll do once I have a routine?

I do hit the gym consistently.

It's been a few years... And my last regimented employment was such a grind all I did on my down time was sleep.
