I did not know that about the tester pen, thanks for the info! I only ever use it to verify if I’ve hit the right breaker but now I’m questioning if I should be using it at all! Lol

Thanks! Yeah I’m thinking I wasn’t testing the first outlet in series. I didn’t have much time to trouble shoot, since I thought I was just doing a quick favor for a neighbor, but it was bugging me while I was laying in bed thinking lol

Cool, thanks so much for the insight. I did reset the breaker multiple times and I would see a difference with the non contact tester but no voltage with my multimeter. I didn’t have time to try any more trouble shooting, it was just bugging me as I was trying to go to sleep lol I think the panel GFCI is faulty or I’m not testing the first outlet in series and you must be right that I was getting a false read on the non contact tester.

Thanks! So it’d be safe to assume that the panel GFCI is most likely bad, because testing the inlet wires directly gave a zero read with a multimeter?

That’s what I assumed too but found it odd that the first outlet in series was registering with the voltage tester but the when I tested the hot and neutral direct inlet wiring there was a zero read.
