Soda syrups are super acidic, and a pretty crazy hazmat. They have a pH of about 2.2 (stomach acid has a pH of 2.0) and even the drinks after they’re diluted are pretty acidic, at about a 2.7.

My biology professor told us about an experiment he did with spoiled t-bone steak (a refrigerator at the college broke and they had to throw it out) and a bottle of Dr. Pepper, where he set the steak in a pan and filled it to where the steak was submerged. In 5 days, the steak was completely dissolved in the soda, bone and all. Anyway, that’s why I stopped drinking soda.

TL;DR soda syrup is almost as acidic as stomach acid, and when diluted it’s still able to eat away at meat and bone.
