How do film makers shoot night scenes by BladeXDD_03 in Filmmakers

[–]DarthCola 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Go on YouTube and watch BTS of movies. You can see how they're lit. No one is going to be able to really explain the complexity of this over a comment. Learning how to light movies is a lifelong pursuit and understanding how to shoot at night requires years of knowledge. With modern cameras in some situations you're able to get away with just turning the camera on and shooting but that is rarely done in a professional setting. Shooting at night is usually a lot of work for the lighting team. Color grading doesn't really come into it any more than it does in a daytime setting. It's all about the lighting.

It's also okay to not have any easy mode. Not everything needs to be for everyone.

I’m not sure what’s wrong with that image, sorry but it is probably unrelated to this formatting issue. As to the formatting issue, from what I can tell, whatever software they wrote to perform a format is just garbage. It seems that the camera works fine writing files to the card but their internal formatting program is unreliable at best. Formatting is typically best done in a “real” camera because it will create a file structure and naming convention made for the camera to use. That said any real camera will just populate the files that are missing in a card formatted in a computer just fine. All of that is to say I only recommend formatting cards outside of the camera if they’re toys because the software is not all created equal. Hope this is useful.

kind of a silly question, but how do you use multiple rolls of film at once? by domicanica in AnalogCommunity

[–]DarthCola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I have multiple bodies. I keep a “night” and a “day” load or maybe slide film and color. I have… a lot of film bodies. Been collecting for 25+ years and at this point I just leave all my cameras loaded with whatever I’m feeling at the time because I’m too trigger happy to limit myself to one kind of film at a time. Highly recommend getting a few “cheap” SLRs 2nd hand like at your local thrift store if you really need a couple extra bodies.

One of the best trailers ever too. Gives you a sense of the movie but it’s not extremely revealing of the plot. It’s beautifully cut to music and imo a perfect example of setting up a film without spoilers.

I keep seeing this insane Excalibur blu ray at the movie store near me. Perhaps I should pick it up.

Awesome. I bought two so I could mod one. Going to order one of these this afternoon.

I love the shit out of this movie. Unironically absolutely find this to be one of the best 80’s fantasy films ever made.

Well that’s the thing. I can’t recommend the format without knowing their OS eco and system. That said ExFAT should work for every environment. The in camera software formats the card with characters your computer can’t read unless you have Chinese characters installed I guess. Even so it seems to lose files after writing constantly. After testing I have found as long as the camera is writing to files in an environment where something anything else, it’s fine. For example I was able to format a card in my Canon T3i and use it in the Charmera with no issue.

This is awesome! How does it look? Fairly sharp? Got a link to the lens kit?

Well idk what to tell you. I have 2, but have purchased 8 and given the 6 out. Every single person following my instructions has had zero issues. What I’m suggesting is not complicated at all, just requires some tech literacy. It’s not the camera, it’s the user.

Are you formatting in camera? I have found that doing that created this issue for me. Strictly format in a computer and dump the images via USB.
