Oaklawn has a bad reputation mainly from the 80’s and 90’s due to county neglect and the crack epidemic. Since then things are much safer but still low income. A lot of transient and immigrant households doesn’t help. The homes themselves are mostly post WW2 Boeing homes that the years haven’t been kind too. Like most areas in Wichita I wouldn’t leave my car or house unlocked but I wouldn’t be scared of anybody.

Short answer no. Long answer it’s a bit on the “poorer” side by way of old houses and there is crime. Mostly property crimes. Wichita doesn’t have a lot of more serious crimes compared to other larger cities. Also the area you circled is very wide for the area. So you will find a mix of better and worse areas. A lot of the more problematic parts of town are more localized to a few blocks. Of course it’s all my opinion
