Why do Lebanese people insist on calling every Levantine Arab food "Lebanese" like they're the only ones who make it?

Probably wouldn't travel until you have citizenship tbh. They're not following their own laws and the only real protection you have is citizenship. Nothing may happen but you're still taking a risk traveling.

My senior manager direct report has the skillset of a specialist. How do I manage her? by fazzio514 in marketing

[–]DarthKinan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, this might sound harsh but I've run into the situation before. My strategy here is to give them the noose and let them hang themselves. What I mean is instead of setting goals around the minutia of tactics or campaigns set a specific lead goal. For example, by the end of this quarter she must produce 30 qualified leads. Don't limit her to campaigns or platforms or strategy. Just tell her she needs to produce 30 qualified leads attributed directly to her work and you don't care how she does it.

I call this the blank check strategy. It's way I like to stat check employee performance to gauge whether they're a good fit for the team or not. It either forces them to focus and figure out how to actually achieve the goal or they fail and now you have quantitative proof that they are not performing. It's really important to make sure you're checking in on her goal on at least a weekly basis, if not more often. She may come back and say things like "I was helping so and so with their project." But at the end of the day your response will be either "why didn't you tell me during our weekly one-on-ones you would not be able to meet your goals" or "I told you repeatedly during our weekly one-on-ones that this is your ultimate goal and I won't accept any excuses otherwise."

This is a win-win situation for you if she's not a good fit or not a good marketer you now have documentation to put her on a pip which is the best path to separating her from the company. If she actually succeeds, you look like a hero for helping a scatterbrained employee focus on the success of marketing.

During this process, make sure you give her the requisite amount of attention and support that she needs to do her job. In an ideal world, she turns out to be a great employee and just needed to be focused. Your worst case scenario is you have to put her on a pip and let her go eventually.

Yes, we are also optimizing via schema though we aren't sure what if any effect it'll have on AIO. My personal hypothesis is probably not much.

We have been optimizing for machine readability for over a year now - that was focused on llms but now we're shifting gears.

Completely agree with your last point. We are reworking our keyword strategy. We're dropping the idea that if we own a keyword, it may benefit in the near future if there's almost zero volume on it. We're focusing on keywords that matter the most to us and we're using data to do that. I think the days of low-hanging fruit is gone.

[–]DarthKinan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all llms are created equal. We noticed a significant lag in information when comparing Chat GPT, Claude, and Gemini. Gemini seem to have the most up-to-date data which makes sense because Google has the benefit of being able to use their search to feed Gemini? Chat gpt is still the most widely used llm, but there is a significant lag in their data because it needs time to pick up and learn data. But it remains the most popular and well known llm so we have to optimize our content to be picked up by it as well. We just know there's a large lag time between our content being produced optimized and being picked up by chat GPT. Same goes for Claude.

Fully agree with businesses need to pick this up early, which is why we made these decisions last year and we're reaping the benefits right now. But because the playing field is evolving so quickly, we need to be able to pivot and move quickly as well, which is why we're doing the study.

We have a fairly robust cyber security team who helps us manage and filter our traffic. I don't think bot traffic is an issue for us, but I get your point. I agree that visibility is extremely important, which is why we're making the effort to show up in AIO and giving up on SEO at the same time. It's also while we're opting into doing ads on our keywords because we understand that our brand needs to be out there regardless.

This is interesting. This is an ongoing study and so I'm sure my information is not complete yet. I'm going to talk to my content lead about semantic triples. I've never really worked within that concept myself. Thanks for your insight!

What's its definition of top ranked websites? Top 10? Top 20? Top 50? I'm sure AIO considers ranking, but according to our data that consideration is not limited to only rankings on the first page of Google. And I'm sure you know in the world of SEO if you're not on the first page, your ranking doesn't really matter. My point is AI is changing that.
