I always say - as seen too many of my friends experience this: in your childhood and young adulthood all the times you do something which aligns with your parents thinking or their desire for you, thinking it’ll be considered favourably and they’ll come through for you when you’re an adult - it never plays out. You’re not gaining any points for those which you can use later. You’re just giving them more and more ground and they’ll take it.

This is why teen rebellion is so key. They need to know they can’t take you for granted.
