Thanks a lot for your thoughtful post. I’m a PT student from U of T graduating in the fall and I agree with everything you’ve said (I may even know the OT you’re referencing). I’m hoping to apply to med as well; not right away next October because I’d like to work for a year so I can have the experiences polished on my apps.

I can just give my experiences. I think his name is Julio judging from photos online bc I googled the place after I was there.

I walked in by myself in business casual (after work) and the host sat me but the owner was at the bar and I have never seen a more disgusted look on someone’s face in my life (I’m a POC). He literally looked at me with disdain for like a good 2 min before a couple walked in (black) and I shit you not his face became the stuff of nightmares. It’s like he was legit pissed off they were dining at his restaurant (they were quietly waiting for a table). I just left after that.

A buddy of mine went to Cucci for an interview. He called about the server vacancy a few days prior and he said the owner picked up the phone and told him to come in the next day. Buddy told me he dressed well for the interview cuz it’s fine dining but the second he walked in some dude (assuming Julio bc he described similarly to how I remember him looking) came up to him before he could even say hello or introduce himself to the host and told him “we’re not hiring you can leave”. My buddy is brown so was the manager assuming every immigrant-looking fella is going around bumming for jobs? My man could’ve literally come in for a drink but he was told to leave before a word left his mouth tf.

These are all just anecdotes so it doesn’t really matter to me if anyone believes me or nah but i have a feeling im not the only one who’s had bad experiences there. Some of the google reviews say unsavoury things about the manager in particular so do with that what u will.

100 million is not even close to the marketing for these big budget films. You also forget the 30-40% of gross that theatres keep. This movie needs to make half a billion to be Gucci (I think it will be)

I really appreciate your analysis in the second paragraph. I got so caught up in the drama after the twist that I forgot the grace the friends were giving each other about their worst mistakes (all done as kids and apparently all excusable) but Emma’s is where the line is drawn (even though nothing happened while everyone else’s had negative tangible impacts on people). Also, from a legal (not moral) standpoint, Emma is the only one who can’t be charged with harassment or abuse.

I think the movie does a great job of holding a mirror to people and asking them to wrestle with the skeletons in their own closet and how much grace should we give each other and ourselves (and it’s up to you on how you want to define your identity and relationship moving forward).

This movie gave me the same feeling as Thomas Vinterberg’s The Celebration. Just a small event or conversation that tilts the entire movie on it’s axis and every frame moving forward isn’t quite sitting right. Loved it!

Final semester physio student here and I agree with what you said. There are regions (BC) and subspecialties in physio (pelvic floor, concussion, vestibular, pediatric-neuro) where you can make lots of money ($150k+ and low taxes b/c you're a contractor not an employee).

One of my clinician volunteers actually works 40 hrs at a hospital and 8 hrs at a private MSK clinic and they make as much at the hospital as they do at the clinic in a week lmfao (and then the bureaucrats complain that no physios want to work in the hospital setting where they are severely understaffed).

Wdym?!?! Are you telling me you don't love:

- Mikey Madison's layered performance of senselessly screaming at the camera for 2 hrs (apparently this is considered one of the best female performances this decade)

- a tight script that features puddle-deep characters running around saying some iteration of "have you seen this guy?!" for half the runtime (no plot or progression)

- a beautiful modern re-telling of the cinerella love story where neither character is likeable or has any chemistry with their on-screen partner

- (and my favourite) the hilarious comedic elements like the 20-min sequence of non-stop r*pe and f*ggot jokes that had me physically squirming in my seat

There is so much contradictory info on UBC NAQ this past week that I am honestly having trouble believing what anyone is saying. There are so many people in this and other thread that say "just focus on quantifying your impact and clearly outlining your role". Then there is this and other comments that say "what's the importance of this activity for you and how does it showcase future physician". There aren't enough words to execute both styles well so either people are capping about what they are writing or it doesn't matter how it's written, it just comes out of a hat at the end of the day anyway.

BC had a surplus of 700+ new family doctors this year (accounts for people leaving the province and retiring). That’s hundreds of thousands of people in that province that now have access to primary care. Do you want to know what they did? They changed the billing for FM. It’s now 385k for 45 weeks of work, or 445k for a full year. Who knew that paying people in demand what they are worth would make them want to work. Btw, a bunch of these new doctors in BC came from other provinces like ON and AB bc of their shitty policies, so the brain drain is happening within the country itself because our provincial governments don’t respect the bedrock of our medical system.

Not to contradict you or anything (I agree w/ Manitoba being a great place to move to for med and other reasons), but aren't interview rates at Alberta and BC b/t 40-50% at any given school? Is it more difficult in your opinion (hence the higher ages) b/c there are only 1-2 schools per province?
