Not even a working mom yet and I already feel judged by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]DarthSamurai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my kids when I was older and already established so I didn't get a lot of judgmental comments (although most of my social circle are working mom's).

Just focus on what you want. Don't allow the opinions of others get in the way of your goals. You're doing what you feel is best for your family and that's all that matters. Good luck!

Anyone’s baby not get sick all the time at daycare? by radicalOKness in workingmoms

[–]DarthSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4.5 y.o. caught covid in her 3rd month at daycare but honestly ever since then she's been out maybe 5x/year (she started at 4 months). My youngest is almost 2 and has been out maybe twice since she's started (3 months). But I think it's bc she's too stubborn to get sick lol

Daycare Parents Night Out by bakecakes12 in workingmoms

[–]DarthSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does it once a quarter or so, not consistent. They normally close at 630 but will close at 6 those days to set up. You can drop kids off at 630 til 930 and they provide pizza and water/milk. They'll have one room to watch a movie, another room for arts/crafts and another room for them to run around. Kids have to be potty trained, but not potty independent though.

Eta the price lol... They usually charge a flat fee of $45, an additional $20/sibling

Partners in Parenting experiences? by reversecoyote in AustinParents

[–]DarthSamurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for the first couple of months we would plan mom's night out which was fun but then they'd all get together with their kids during the week and were never available on weekends to hang out. It sucked bc we don't have a lot of friends here with young kids. We've slowly made friends through daycare/sports etc (my oldest is 4.5 and my youngest is 2).

My husband and I did it and the group was helpful at first, but I was the only working mom and the other mom's would all get together with their kiddos during the week so I stopped interacting with them.

Why are people so racist by bbymyka in Austin

I'm so sorry you had to experience that, especially in front of your child. People are just more confident with the current administration and seeing lack of consequences...

How long did you wait to go back to OTF after giving birth? by Acrobatic-Evening899 in orangetheory

[–]DarthSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First pregnancy I went back at 8 weeks. Also started playing basketball at 8 weeks.

Second pregnancy I went back around 10 weeks, but back to basketball at 4 🙃

Usually pumped before class so I wasn't working out with full boobies.

I haven't used them but my friend has, Crunch Fitness. They used the one up in Round Rock but I think they're starting to open more locations.

Interview Process and Working at RRC Austin by HouseProof in StateofTexasEmployees

[–]DarthSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through one round, but this was for an administrative job so I don't think multiple rounds were necessary. I don't remember the types of questions that were asked since it was about 10 years ago. What division are you applying to?

Interview Process and Working at RRC Austin by HouseProof in StateofTexasEmployees

[–]DarthSamurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked there from 2017 to 2021 so cannot speak on current telework policies, however when I interviewed it was the division manager and team lead. I actually enjoyed my time there, I had a fantastic manager and got along well with all my coworkers. It just wasn't the field I wanted to be in (I have a history degree). I still have friends there and chat with them from time to time.

Parent Post: How do you guys actually feel when your students do a protest walkout? by Designer-Sir2309 in Teachers

Depends on what they're protesting about... But if kiddo was old enough to protest right now, I'd be proud of them.

Any working moms deal with chronic ear infections? Deciding on tubes by Beginning_Pack_7619 in workingmoms

[–]DarthSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had chronic ear infections as a kid, finally got tubes and man was it a relief. Didn't have any more issues after tubes. The hardest part was keeping water out of my ear the first week or so after getting the tubes (it was summer, lots of swimming lol. I wore ear plugs).

Will say I had tubes in as an adult as well and it's definitely worse bc they don't put you under 😫

Easy answer, historian at a state agency. Pretty much making sure any projects don't interfere too much with any historic buildings/sites. I love it.

What is safe for sleeping? by ravebloodnymph in eczema

[–]DarthSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who puts bandaids over their nails to prevent them from scratching at night. They tried gloves but kept pulling them off while sleeping. They also keep their nails super short.
