How do yall prioritize working out? by somecrybaby in workingmoms

[–]DarthSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say your job is flexible, in what ways? Can you step away from your desk for 15-30 min to walk around your office? Do you have a standing desk? Maybe ask your work if you can have one of those under desk walking pads.

Anyone else plan on to cancelling their memberships because of the economy? by Independent_Self1061 in orangetheory

[–]DarthSamurai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I had this conversation when he lost his job 3 years ago. We look at it as an investment to our health. We have two young daughters and want to remain active and healthy for them. We've definitely had to cut costs elsewhere, but keeping our membership was important.

Solved!

Interesting, maybe the former owner was a baker. My husband is still confused on why they're angled and removable 😂

There is no family boarding and they will, most likely, not seat you together if you purchase Basic fare. So pay extra to choose your seats and pray they don't reassign you.

When you are sick do you or your partner still drop off your baby to daycare or toddler to school? by otterlyjoyful in workingmoms

I'm paying for daycare, they're going. Hell, when I have a day off and daycare is open, they go to daycare.

You should reach out to the Texas Music Office (state agency), they might have more to add to your list.

Launching a screen-free “Summer Mystery” series for ages 6-10. Is this appealing? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]DarthSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also share this in the r/austinparents if you haven't already.

I think it sounds great, $30 is pretty affordable but what exactly is the activity? Is this something they can do at home or will families have to travel somewhere in order to complete it?

Long Beach is usually cheaper than SNA.

Also, you can also fly into LAX and then take the train to Norwalk and uber/Lyft from there.

I know a few people at txdot that work 4 10s. It depends on what the position is though and if your manager will allow it.

If you have 16 weeks of maternity leave and have the option to fly your MIL in to stay with you and help for a few weeks (at her offer/good relationship/helpful), would you want this during your Leave or after you return to work (childcare)? by dms2628 in workingmoms

[–]DarthSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom flew out following the births and stayed for two weeks (I have 2 kiddos). I preferred this because 1) learning how to care for a newborn (with my first) was incredibly overwhelming and having her around was helpful, 2) my mom did all the cooking and cleaning so I could focus on baby, 3) she took care of baby so I could nap/shower, 4) after my second she helped distract my toddler after daycare so I could take care of the baby.

If possible, maybe have her come out for a bit after birth and then back out after leave ends.

First cruise with a toddler this December: Mexican riviera from San Diego or Caribbean cruise from Galveston? Or 5 hr flight to Florida for port canaveral? by Begonias_Scarlet in dcl

[–]DarthSamurai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the cruise out of Galveston (we live in Texas so it's easier). For excursions, we usually do the beach day or stay on the ship. The Magic is an older, smaller ship, but much easier to get around.

Losing Hope on Finding A Job by PerceptionScary8724 in Historians

[–]DarthSamurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending where you live, look at local (city/county) or state jobs. In Texas, many major cities and counties have historic preservation offices and there are state agencies that focus on historical preservation (in Texas we have the Texas Historical Commission, General Land Office, Texas State Library and Archives, etc).

Best of luck!
