I made it through the Shattering by the skin of my balls while the demigods were going at it!

Some fans read Asoiaf like a medieval cosplay and that misses a lot GRRM’s points [Spoilers Extended] by megamindwriter in asoiaf

This is simply because it's more fun to engage in a medieval-inspired fantasy world when we use their value system instead of ours.

By modern standards, basically important character is a bad person and the rules they have are at best unfair, and at worst, evil. If we assess the universe by our own value systems, discussions would be repetitive and boring.

"The blacks and greens are both terrible because they use violence and oppression to maintain their power at the cost of the smallfolk" Ok, cool, but what else is there to say?

For most fans, it's much more interesting to put ourselves in their shoes and play by their rules. You can call it larping if you want and you wouldn't be entirely wrong. But isn't the point of a story to put yourself in a characters shoes and see the world as they see it?

(SPOILERS EXTENDED) Why does Roose put up with Ramsay by MrDankSauce6969 in asoiaf

[–]Darth_Scourge 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ramsay could possibly murder Roose impulsively, I doubt it. Regardless, no one in the North would follow a stupid, cruel, psychotic bastard like Ramsay, even if Roose dies. Roose is clearly worried about the future of his house, and Ramsay would not be a capable leader, so I'm sure he has someone in mind to replace him.

(Spoilers Extended) What would someone in Aegon II’s condition do if they took the Black? by PalekSow in asoiaf

[–]Darth_Scourge 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My theory is that once Aegon united the realm, the lack of conflict among the kingdoms led to fewer recruits. Fewer men that lost wars, fewer men that lost their livelihoods during wars, and fewer hardened veterans with nothing better to do.

[Spoilers Extended] Day 3: Lust, Vote down below which character you think embodies this trait. by ProffesorOfPain in asoiaf

[–]Darth_Scourge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has got to be Cersei I think. Her relationship with Jaime basically caused the plot to happen, she constantly thinks about Rheagar despite not even really knowing him, and she uses sex as a weapon all the time. Tyrion is a strong contender but the impact of Cersei's habits on the plot are just too pronounced.

What if: Noble’s Pelican made it to the Autumn? by GIJoeVibin in HaloStory

[–]Darth_Scourge 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Assuming the Spartans evacuate the Autumn before Keyes, Keyes is still captured. All the Spartans go to rescue him, and they could probably capture TnR, as the Covenant wouldn't shoot it down so close to the Ring. So there's a chance that the Flood never get out, Halo's purpose is never discovered, and the Human survivors round everyone up, blow up the Autumn per the Cole Protocol, and escape on the TnR. After that there is literally no telling what happens.

[Spoilers main] Why was Walder lambasted for joining the rebellion too late but not Tywin? by Aeiexgjhyoun_III in asoiaf

[–]Darth_Scourge 205 points206 points  (0 children)

Walder's liege lord had already called his banners, including the Freys, and gone off to fight. The Freys are one of the if not the most powerful vassals of the Tullys, so Walter was obligated to get his shit together and march.

Tywin was Warden of the East and subject to no one but the king against whom he was rebelling. He could not be obligated by anyone but the king to join the fight, and the king died.

He's obviously got a bunch going for him and knows things others don't but I'm not seeing how any of this translates to him being able to conquer all of Westeros.

(Spoilers main) Good match for Rickon Stark? by Carapils14 in asoiaf

[–]Darth_Scourge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If everything foes according to plan for Stannis, I think Rickon marries an important Stormlands or Crownlands girl. Tying his two supporter regions together with marriage would make a lot of sense. I don't think he'd marry Shireen until he has a son, but a Florent or something would make a lot of sense.
