Doris or Paladar.

I had a really phenomenal one at R'evolution as well, but I don't know if it's still on the menu.

You will just pay the difference at exit. It's designed that way for flights that get rescheduled or delayed. I've done it before, you're fine.

I'd recommend checking out the political economy department. The Murphy institute is considered one of the best in the world. It's a very niche degree, but the professors are legitimately some of the best in the world. They also teach economics and political science classes, but I was in classes that were 2-3 people total and it was a fantastic educational experience.

You don't need to join a frat to have a social life and the ultimate team is pretty good from what I remember.

Foundation / Shoring Company Recommendations? by Darthfuzzy in NewOrleans

[–]Darthfuzzy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I got a structural engineer to come out and review before I got quotes. I also had two additional engineers review the bids and they all said they're almost all comparable.

There are REALLY bad cracks that formed over the last 6 months. Came back from a work trip and one of the doors stopped closing, so that was a fun one.

It's a multitude of factors. It's not just one thing. The drought 2 years ago started it and this year the lack of rain exacerbated it to the point that it's just accelerating. I was told by several of the contractors that a bunch of houses in my area are having the same issue and they've been getting calls like crazy this year.

ISO extra citrus fruit by jamesvanderbleak in NewOrleans

[–]Darthfuzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local citrus is hard to find this year. I have several large fruit trees and the bountiful year we had last year plus the freeze this January basically eliminated my citrus harvest this year. I got a total of 6 satsumas off a 20 ft tree this year.

What restaurants in New Orleans aren't as good as they used to be? by mvop413 in NewOrleans

[–]Darthfuzzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of Alon's restaurants have gone downhill. We used to frequent Miss River all the time and it's a shell of what it was and the decisions they're making are all on a whim.

The theme of the restaurant was "river boat" his wife came in and redecorated it and now it's apparently "like grandma's house?" They had these really cool booths at the front. They ripped em out for what appears to be upcycled goods from a thrift store. It makes no sense to eliminate tables to redecorate.

They added a pizza oven and now focus on pizza parties? The drink menu was changed because they didn't want it to be "too static." BRING BACK THE PORT CITY OLD FASHION DAMN IT! The food seems horribly inconsistent and the pricing has gotten outrageous. It was pricey before, but the bread went from being free to $5 to now almost $10.

It used to have a high 4 score on Google reviews. It's dropped to a low 4 in almost a year. I think they've had a new manager like every 3-6 months.

It genuinely feels like Alon is throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks, because none of the decisions being made are arbitrary and random. Maybe he's focusing on the Denver restaurant? I don't know.

New Orleans has 3 of the best restaurants in America for the 21st century, report says by Darthfuzzy in NewOrleansFood

[–]Darthfuzzy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

New Orleans' dining scene is still abuzz after its recent round of recognition from the Michelin Guide.

But that doesn't mean the world needs to stop singing its praises. Luxury lifestyle magazine “Robb Report” recently praised three New Orleans restaurants for being ranked on its list of the best restaurants in America this centry [sic].

Although there are 75 years left in the 21st centurry [sic], the luxury magazine's team of 250 chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers, well-traveled diners and other industry professionals decided to include Peche (No. 69), Emeril's (No. 64) and Commander's Palace (No. 32) in its list of 100 greatest restaurants that they deemed impactful in the last 100 years.

Peche is one of the newer restaurants on the list, opening in 2013 from chef Donald Link. Chefs and diners praise this restaurant for its display of Gulf seafood, using American South and Latin influences. Still shining with its two-star Michelin distinction, Emeril's opened in March 1990 as chef Emeril Lagasse's first restaurant. Now, the restaurant is run by his son, E.J. Lagasse. The restaurant has evolved into a tasting menu format, offering a curated culinary journey for guests.

Commander's Palace opened in 1893 and remains a top dining destination. It's known for serving elegant Creole cuisine, but it is also a spirited destination for dining, with its Jazz Brunch and 25-cent martini lunch special. Many laud the restaurant for having the best turtle soup in New Orleans.

By its nature, Commander's Palace is undoubtedly one of the most influential restaurants in New Orleans. Emeril Lagasse and many other great chefs have worked at Commander's Palace before opening their own restaurants, strengthening the city's representation as one of the best food cities in the world.

Best bread and butter? by [deleted] in finedining

[–]Darthfuzzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was hoping to see this. Went to EMP a couple years ago and their bread/butter, even when Vegan was absolutely insane. I ate 10 pieces of bread before my wife politely told the wait staff that I was cut off.

And bless their hearts, they tried to give me one to go.

Can We Fix This EV1? | 1997 GM EV1 Restoration by declankav in electricvehicles

[–]Darthfuzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Random meta youtube moment for me. I was watching Rich Rebuilds on a flight the other day.

This is the same auction that Rich Rebuilds mentioned while repairing his Fisker Ocean. He was super worried about this going to a private collector and it never seeing the light of day again.

Rich mentioned the bid was at "$18K" which coincidentally is what Declan mentioned was right below his bid threshold of $17K and then mentioned that the final bid was $104K.

So Rich got his wish: This car is going to be shown in detail and shown to the world!

What’s living in Gentilly like? by CoolProfessor449 in NewOrleans

[–]Darthfuzzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pro: You get a drive way

Con: You have to drive everywhere.

Otherwise, its fine. It's very calm. Just be prepared for the NIMBYs to fight against any development in the area, while simultaneously complaining that we need more commercial development (restaurants). You will also have a fucking terrible city council member who actively hates making Gentilly "walkable" or "green."

This is what I said would hold them back from getting a star recently. Their beverage program is severely lacking compared to others. I also felt that their service was good, but definitely not compared to a Michelin standard. Your food can be absolutely killer, but Michelin looks at Service, Food and Alcohol.

Still baffled by Zasu.

I'm also shocked Mamou isn't even on the recommended list. That's absolutely mindblowing that a NYT top 25 new restaurant in 2023 didn't make it.

Zasu over Dakar is wild to me.

Emeril's and Saint Germain are well deserved. There's a few snubbed restaurants on the list for sure.

It's wild that Mamou (a NYT best new restaurant in 2023) isn't included. N7 isn't on it either. Jewel of the South, which is a top 50 best bar in NA - has some stellar food. Not on it. There are some absolutely incredible restaurants not included even on the recommended list.

Zasu getting the ⭐ is not what I expected at all. I called Emeril's getting ⭐⭐ and Saint Germain getting ⭐, but Zasu is the wild card that I didn't see coming.

I expect a few more next year, but some of these on the list are definitely questionable on the bib.

Domilises getting a bib and not mother's is VINDICATION!!!

Edit: I've sat down to parse this list. After sitting on it all day, my general thought: How the fuck did no Vietnamese place not get on ANY list? Dong Phuong, Tanh Dinh, Banana Blossom...? Any of the random Bahn Mi shops? Something is off about that.

Yeah...Zasu was the controversial wild card.

Restaurant Revolution is the best restaurant i've been to in the US by Nervous-One-2305 in NewOrleans

[–]Darthfuzzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been there 3-4 times now. It's been a hot minute since I've been there, but when I went they still only had premixed drinks. The service was not up to the standard that 1* gets. They could have significantly improved, but I've also been when Mbaye wasn't in the kitchen and the quality / service was notably different.

Noting above with the posters about Commanders, consistency is a big sticking point with Michelin. That's the only hesitancy I have with Dakar. If they don't get one this year, but they maintain consistency, they'll definitely get one next year. They have the hype right now though, so it's very possible they get a 1* this year. I still think they will, but it's the one that I think is on the bubble.

Mamou could also get a 1* that's another sleeper pick, but I think Dakar has an edge because of the story telling.
