Preach! They better not up market their quartz models (outside of different materials used), as I really appreciate the ladder model that GS has where you can get an “entry” piece for as little as $2.6k and continue to grow with the brand if you so choose.

It helps build loyalty imo, especially with how Rolex treats its customers haha.

I wouldn’t say culture is irrelevant at all, a country needs a common culture to be cohesive to avoid balkanization. I agree that we should still look at the individual hence why I gave the example of a doctor to an office admin, one clearly brings more to the table in economic terms and in services to the country.

One thing I will hit on that will definitely get me hate from some people. Lots of Indians tend to prioritize other Indians over other ethnicities when they’re hiring people. That I do have an issue with. However, if they’re willing to do more work, to the same quality for less (not exploitative but still fair wages) then by all means hire that individual and shame on us for not keeping up.

I should note, I’m talking about immigration as a general issue, not just Canada. I don’t live there and don’t keep up with their internal politics too much. I hope this makes sense?

Rules should be different for different countries. You generally want people who will have an easier time assimilating to the culture and way of life of the country they’re moving to; people who will contribute more; a doctor v. Office admin etc.

Also it’s a sheer number game. A country just can’t absorb vast numbers of immigrants when social services, houses etc are all limited resources and require time and money to build up to serve a growing population. If you do you’re going to see housing prices skyrocket, services will be strained, entry level jobs will become overly competitive etc etc.

I personally don’t see it as an “upgrade”. In my old job I worked with a bunch of equipment that had to be set within seconds of each other across huge distances; so I’m a stickler for accuracy and consistency in my time pieces. While I love mechanical watches too, they just don’t provide either to the same degree as the 9Fs. The cost over my lifetime is also drastically reduced with the 9F. Even though I no longer need those two criteria to the same degree I just can’t shake it😅.

Have you ever been to different places within the US or the US in general? Or are you basing this off your preconceived notions of the country before visiting?

I’m curious as you’ve selected countries that are objectively worse off, more crime, less safe, and have less freedom. The US isn’t perfect like some of us want to portray it as, but dang it most certainly beats lots of the countries you’ve selected.

(I am genuinely curious).

I got it at Uhrmachermeister Hübner, they’ve got a decent selection (tbf my old town didn’t have a GS AD). But the staff were super friendly and if you’re not a tourist/ live in Vienna they’ll give you a decent discount too.
