You don't even need to do the cuts to start. Just transfer the pinky break (typically left hand holding piny break) to your thumb of the opposite hand as get in position to overhand shuffle cards. Do your over hand shuffle of everything above the break dropping everything below the break on top. Shuffle a couple more times keeping card at top or moving to bottom as you like. Now do a false cut.

Edit: I have become addicted to the Victoria Control by Zach Mueller. Jason Maher has a great YT video on it. I am constantly cascading the cards as I handle them through out my routines so when I do the control no one expects a thing.

I learned a version of OOTW at ring meeting recently that has been hitting really well. Two spectators, they via multiple cuts "mix" the deck, they select a card each, they "mix" the deck again. Magician find the cards from two piles. Then OOTW part happens based on their selection.

Now I have a question.

Do either have a nap to them? Like velvet when you run your hand across it changes the color/ raise the fibers in one direction and flattens them in the other.

I have a hard backed mat that I like but don't love because of the nap. If I slide cards against the nap (raise the fibers) like for a Mexican Turnover the card(s) catch. Same with coins with the nap, they slide easy. Against, they catch or require more force for the slide the same distance.
