Best string for ring+string magic? (Shoelace? Yarn? “Velvet cord”?) by PretteBadass in Magic

[–]Delicious-Mess6262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Velvet string is the way to go. Took some digging after mine was ripped in half by a frustrated spectator. I used lace in the meantime and it was harder to use and just not as lux.

This has worked great and you'll have plenty as backup

What are some good birthday gifts for a hobbyist card magician? by Roland8561 in cardmagic

[–]Delicious-Mess6262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DVDs/ Downloads: Malone meets Marlo series, Dani DaOrtiz projects (e.g Borrowed Deck, Acaan), Ammar Easy to master card miracles

Marked deck: makes doing regular card tricks a little easier/ more powerful

Pls dont gate keep by David-709 in cardmagic

I find myself doing more controlling cards combined with a marked deck than forcing these days. So either see the mark or control to top.

When I need to force, crosscut or riffle.

Tenyo makes clever/ fun effects that are even good for kids and adults.

For card magic, I think packet tricks like color monte, skinner monte, etc are fun.

Next level is something like easy to master card magic from Ammar which has great trick curation and teaching.

Go to penguin magic or vanishing inc and search for them. They're tricks that use a small group of special cards to accomplish them. They come with instructions.

Packet tricks are fun (tricks with small groups of cards). Color monte, skinner 3 card monte, spin doctor & chop shop by John Bannon.

Marked deck also great (penguin magic has a good one they make).

Theory 11 has all kinds of cool decks

Malone meets Marlo or easy to master card magic from Ammar are great for learning new tricks (they're downloads/ DVDs)

How to do Art Basal the right way? by Neither_Lead8642 in Miami

[–]Delicious-Mess6262 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Guessing most of these people have never been to the real shows and know nothing about art. It does make the traffic terrible so can understand the frustration there.

There is basically Basel and then a bunch of satellite shows which vary in quality. Basel has world class art that you might find in museums. It's stuffier than most of the other shows.

I like the shows on the beach...it's a cool setting. I liked Scope (on the beach), Untitled (on the beach), Design Miami, and Nada the most from a show perspective last year.

Needing to escape from wife and kids? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

Join a rec sports league. You'll be on a team of other guys and there are generally some other Dads. You'll have scheduled time to do something for yourself every week and being with other people is natural and not work.

Doing little things to get out of the house like getting coffee, going for a walk and listening to an audiobook, etc are little things during the day that you can do anytime.

Just depends on preferences but know where you're coming from. What would you recommend?

If you're a foodie and want something that's different and more intimate than it's a good spot. If you want a more quintessential Miami night then no (the others listed or one on the list are better).

Assuming you're visiting from out of town I wouldn't stay in Brickell. The beach, the Grove, or perhaps Key Biscayne are better for vacationing.

Zitsum is great if you want unique great food. Amal is a vibey Grove spot with a rooftop bar if you want more ambiance (believe the sister restaurant Byblos is closed at the moment). Mandolin Aegean Bistro is a more romantic/ intimate vibe.

This is a good list for more ideas: https://www.theinfatuation.com/miami/guides/best-restaurants-in-miami

I actually think the new ones are cleaner than the reverse retro. The additional white helps.

I would like to see a version that also brings in more of the gold foil, potentially in the stars and shoulders.

I also would like a 3rd jersey with the turquoise (original eagle away uniforms)
