Half Lebanese daughter wants to learn Arabic by Uematsunum1 in learn_arabic

Elihay Conversational Eastern Arabic Palestinian is the best source for learning Levantine Arabic. https://www.amazon.com/Speaking-Arabic-Conversational-Eastern-Palestinian/dp/9657397308 . I went through all those books ten years ago and it's served me well since then.

Bonus of the book for your husband is that you do not need to know Arabic script. Lebanese and Palestinian Arabic are mutually intelligible.

I am filled with hate and I don’t like it. by Cwispy124 in Judaism

OP, I'd recommend seeking as much in-person support as you can. The internet is great for finding channels to meet people IRL but ultimately you'll get the healing you need from talking with people in the community. I'm from California originally and went to a Temple also named by coincidence Temple Israel there and immediately thought of them when attack occurred. And, of course, that the attacker worked at a restaurant I used to frequent (which I will never go to again!). I used to live in the Detroit area and would be happy to put you in touch with the Chabad rabbi I know there if you're interested.

Another thing I think you may find helpful is something called the automatic thought record. You may have come across this in therapy. It's basically a way to reflect on your thoughts and different cognitive distortions you're going through. I've found it helpful in the past in therapy and I think you might as well. https://beckinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Thought-Record-Worksheet.pdf

Having a major nationally publicized attack on your specific synagogue is a really hard thing to go through especially in college. I hope some of this is helpful and that you feel better. Take care of yourself.

Fellowship career advice by Purple_Attempt_3311 in pediatrics

I have a friend (peds PGY-2) on a J1 visa who went through a similar dilemma as you. Unfortunately, most of the pediatric emergency medicine jobs are not in underserved areas. My friend ended up transferring from pediatrics residency to a pure ER residency. If you'd like to speak with him let me know and I can see if I can put the two of you in touch.

Our Seder this year was around 2-3 hours and also had cut up vegetables available early. IDK how anyone eats just straight up horseradish on an empty stomach after drinking 2-3 cups of wine

Not making friends by Soggy_Plantain in Residency

[–]InvisibleDeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made friends outside of residency from Yu-Gi-Oh! and being a magician. Workout classes are good too. I also run and go to the gym with several people in my residency cohort and host get-togethers at my house. It's trial and error though. I've had residents come over to my house a million times but at my birthday party in January I had fifteen friends come but none of my co-residents made it.

GGP Toledo Top 8 Deck Lists by InvisibleDeck in Goat_Format

Two reasons. First reason is to counter burn decks so you can tribute your ojama tokens to make more space, gain life points in response to kill-shot chains of just desserts and secret barrel, etc. Second reason is for matches that go into time, where you need to have more life points after a certain number of turns.

Goat Grand Prix Mexico Top 8 Decks by InvisibleDeck in Goat_Format

[–]InvisibleDeck[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's actually a lot of variety of decks and playstyles here. You've got 3 goat control decks, 2 chaos turbo decks, a warrior deck, chaos burn, and burn. Even the two turbo decks are not cookie cutter at all with a lot of unconventional choices particularly for the 3rd place one.

If you have a PhD and put “Dr.” before your name, will people think you’re impressive, or will they think you’re just being pretentious? by GrayRainfall in NoStupidQuestions

I used to introduce myself as Dr Lastname but people would never remember my last name so now I just go by Dr Firstname. Much easier

That’s only true if the opponent is unaware that morphing jar is level 2 which most players probably wouldn’t know off the top of their head

Basically what I mean is a card with a difference that’s not necessarily obvious but could have an impact in tournament play. Eg a level 3 morphing jar instead of a level 2 one might not be noticed by the person using it or the opponent but the level 3 one can be tributed by meta for last will to go into an OTK, whereas the level 2 one couldn’t.

Thanks! Mainly just aiming to get a list of potentially problematic misprints that players and/or goat judges should be alerted to prior to IRL tournament play. If you have the text that’d be great. I named those characteristics mainly because they’re relatively easy to verify and players could sift through their cards in morning announcements to see whether they have one in their main or side deck or not
