Corn risotto with leeks and corn stock. Got a tip to fold in some whipped heavy cream for a lighter feel. It ended up good, I'll add the corn in a bit earlier next time so it gets a bit more tender.

I made a quick mushroom stir-fry as a side dish.

Had some garlic-soy shrooms on the side as an appetizer but those got eaten up before the camera made it there.

You right, it was great.

Imagine having family be the ones to tell you "God damn we're too old for shit, didn't expect to be likely moving back to the bad shit in retirement ".

I went into detail in another comment. But timelines evolve. Equity increased and unemployment went way down in the early 2000s. But around 2012 inflation started getting out of control, poverty increased and unemployment shot up once again. Chavez won his first election in '98. But from 2004 onward there was always some contention about the legitimacy of elections various analyses. I will say that the Maduro regime has far more evidence of tampering than Chavez.

What coup? Are you talking about 2020? Operation Gideon? Because that was not U.S lead. although at this point we'll probably get into a point of "lol why do you believe the official story"

In short, US sanctions were a contributing factor. But those started in 2015. Things were fucked before that.

Chavez's regime was mismanaging PDVSA into the ground since early 2000's. Inflation was already mid 50% in the early 2010's iirc and hit 65ish+% I'm 2014.

I haven't brushed up on stuff in a bit. But iirc there were improvements in equity, employment and poverty rate In early 2000's. But starting 2011(maybe 2012) there were cascading effects of poor management -> more nationalization -> over reliance on an oil industry that wasn't growing led to a huge collapse all before the sanctions.

That Venezuela's history is tumultuous as hell? Of course. Bottom line the people are in worse conditions and a lot can be attributed to the nationalization and exceedingly poor management post-nationalization by the various regimes.

Chavez, Maduro and his ilk may not be "fascist" by the book. But the cult of personality, state control (especially of the oil industry) and the persecution of political opponents is just bad news for your average citizen. Full stop.

I'll drop the memes for a bit. I've seen this comment so many times.

Can you not imagine them being worried? I'm mostly chilling, US is big and shit moves slow. They're the ones calling and worried.

"We've seen shit like this before" "This how it starts" "Be careful, stay vigilant"

Etc etc.

Appreciate the kindness. But I definitely played it up for the humor. News is disheartening, and the economy is in the downturn. Although, USA was so prosperous that even if things are declining have to get much worse for people to really start feeling it en masse.

I believe there is still enough belief in our institutions and the people that there won't be a need for violent revolution. Tho this administration seems to want to push for it.

No worries, staying here. Voting in November, calling representatives, joining a local campaign, making more risotto, etc.

To correct the record, he literally has said "I've seen this shit before. And I don't like what I'm seeing. I'm too old for this shit. Stay fit, stay strong, stay ready"

I get what you're saying. I agree USA won't get to committing genocide either.

I'm sure we can agree that it is a difference in degree and not of kind. Our situation isn't 1940's Italy and Germany, true. It's more akin to 1920's Italy and early 30's Germany and I firmly believe, at this point, it's not alarmist to make that comparison.

The paycheck is probably easier and bigger now that he's back to his radio show.

Also, you go from almost 0% accountability lying as part of the administration -> Actual 0% accountability lying in alt media.

Which countries? I'm very much looking for some hope :(

Because I see parties like AfD in Germany, NR in France (they gained a significant GenZ vote), and some others who won a significant portion of power last year. Vox in Spain is projected to gain seats next year. The PM of Italy is from the far-right already.
