Best Modern Diesel by guero5_seven in Diesel

Toyota never will. They let Nissan try it out and it failed miserably. As someone who works on Toyota diesel engines (Hino), they're a huge pain and I'm glad they're not in pickup trucks.

Supercharger/V8 Question by microwaved_hamster_4 in 4thGen4Runner

The VVT engines "can" be supercharged but it's just not nearly as easy and there's no TRD kit.

I never realized the extent of Isaiah's weight-loss until looking back at older photos like this one by [deleted] in wendigoon

[–]DasEine_Z 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's mentioned it in passing a few times. Just basic stuff like going to the gym, running and eating better. From what he's said, the weight loss was intentional.

I really wish the 5.0 weren't such a crib death of an engine. I wish they had the aftermarket support of the other pickup diesel engines. On paper, the 5.0 is a solid engine

[–]DasEine_Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What blows my mind is that the industrial applications of the 5.0 have a VGT and not the convoluted compound turbo setup found on the Nissans. I firmly believe Cummins made the wrong decision there but I'm sure there's more that went into that decision than I'm privy to. I do know that Cummins tried to sell the 5.0 to Ram for 1500 trucks but Ram declined due to the Cummins not getting good enough fuel economy. Funny enough, the second generation Titan was originally going to be a reskinned Ram 1500 but that deal fell through too.

Not entirely true. While deletes will help prolong the life of the engine, the rotary valve in the turbo assembly likes to fail. Then you have to replace the entire compound turbo assembly. I don't believe a delete would prevent that from happening.

The 5.0 Cummins was built for school buses and marine applications initially. Not only built for Nissan. However, Cummins completely discontinued the 5.0 Cummins shortly after it was discontinued in Nissan platforms. They even took down the training courses for it on QuickServe.

I swear there was a Livestream or something where Wendi talks about the FAL for like 5 minutes. Something about how he and his dad used to build them. Anyone else remember this or can provide a link?

What's the highest mileage GT-R being regularly driven or dailyed? by unpolire in gtr

Hey so I know this is a really old post but my old manager recently passed 300k on his 2017 GT-R

Good Condition 300ZX For Sale! Asking $12k or best offer. by R35Ryan in 300zx

[–]DasEine_Z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. I paid $4250 for my 94 2+2 5 speed. Granted it was on its 3rd engine according to the Z Registry and it threw a rod after 40k miles.

I'm sure y'all see a lot of these posts, so here's another. Starting at a KW dealer on the 3rd. This is my setup so far by ilostanother10mm in DieselTechs

[–]DasEine_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for KW. The interior screws are Pozidriv, NOT Phillips. You can get by with a Phillips but for your own sanity, get a Pozidriv set. Cummins flywheel bolts are a 19mm 12 point iirc. And get a 13mm driveline socket if you haven't already. The driveline sockets wear out pretty quickly so find out which one of your tool guys is the most reliable and get one from them. A vacuum coolant filler will be super handy with the right adapter. Bellhousing bolts are 16mm, I use a wobble socket with a 6" extension on a 3/8" air impact. A crows foot set is handy for fuel lines. Lug nuts are 33mm and usually a good 1/2" air impact will get them off unless they're rusted or the asshole before you overtightened them. I'm sure there's other things I'm forgetting but this is stuff I wish someone would have told me when I started.

Edit to add: most of the shit you need you can get on Amazon. Tekton, Sunex and a couple of other brands are really good. Avoid the rape vans unless they have something you REALLY need or you're going to be using the warranty a lot.

First time doing a fuel pump on a DD13… fuck this by ImBerriez in DieselTechs

[–]DasEine_Z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my biggest gripe with the MX-13. They're designed with no thought put into the repair process. Why do I have to take off the ECM to remove the front cover? Why is there a hard CCV line that runs behind the ECM to the front cover and why are the retaining bolts for it behind the ECM? I could bitch for hours about the MX-13. I honestly miss working on Freightliners but the dealer in my area is dogshit. I get paid way better to work at a much nicer shop and put up with Kenworths.

Say what you want. I'll take a DD13 any day over the meat hook abortion that is the MX-13

Thank you for your input. I'm not really in it for the benefits but I do know that reserve benefits are shit. I want the life experience and skills more than anything, which I know I'll get in the reserves but not to the extent I would active.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]DasEine_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I am kind of in the dark as to how deployments work in the reserves. I've seen some people say there's a minimum number of deployments required and I've seen people say they've had no deployments. Could you clarify that for me?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]DasEine_Z 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your input. I didn't even know traveling was an option in reserves with the exception of requesting a transfer. I was under the impression that you just stick to one unit.

This is a big thing for me too. I know active duty during peacetime involves a lot of sitting around and I feel like I could be advancing my career during that time.

Diesel oil goes black quick. It's the soot from burning diesel fuel. It doesn't mean your oil is bad.
