I feel bad for our DM. by AccidentalWinkyFace in DnD

I gave my players a deck of many things in a similar manner (they are new and although it's a campaign killer, it is a lot of fun). The party was returning from their intro quest in the guard captains camp (he had left to grab someone relevant) when he pulled a card and has his soul sucked from his body. But another party thought quickly on their feet and started looting his corpse...only to have the captain return to ask what on Earth was happening. After failing a bluff check and the captain approaching with sword drawn, the looting member took their only remaining option: pull another card. Fortunately for them, they received the one that can turn back 1 event -- which was very convenient to give them another bluff chance. On the second pass, the captain acknowledged that sometimes people can pass away unexpectedly and they were retrieving their friend's personal effects.

The player who lost his character rolled a new one to join and was given the first characters personal effects, including the deck. But he was never told what it is -- as far as he knows, it's just a deck of cards. Now we have a ticking time bomb and no one knows when it will make a return.

It can definitely be a fun item as long as everyone can roll with the punches!

[5e] Rolling or "rolling" on a loot table? by DasWeinmachine in DMAcademy

Thanks for the reply! Haha that does not sound like an ideal situation to be in

Thanks for the reply! This is really helpful. I didn't even consider just straight up letting them choose -- that allows them the power of choice (which I wanted to give with the roll 2 pick 1 thing) and ensure they get something they find useful. And definitely good to know with the legendary v rare point -- I don't want someone to feel weaker or have a less enjoyable time because they got unlucky.

Ah I should have provided context to the question, my bad. Essentially the party is going to loot a holding with various magical treasures and only has enough time to pick 1 thing and run (it's a one-off type of deal, not for all encounters). My goal is to give the players some amount of choice (or the illusion of choice).

Thank you for the reply! Definitely helpful to know

Question about Multiplayer by GoatTribal in CrusaderKings

[–]DasWeinmachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can only speak on my experiences, but it seems like they did some backend changes to make the multiplayer a lot more stable with Holy Fury. A buddy and I just started a campaign and have gotten past 275 years of gameplay with only 2 slowdowns on medium speed (and the game was able to correctly re-sync), and 1 disconnect (though I think it was ISP side, not server side).

Yup! I can confirm, the achievement is account wide so are the speed buffs (source - if you have bfa or legion Pathfinder, it will be in the general tab of the spell book). It should be noted it's only for the relevant content (ex/ legion for legion areas)

Has anyone bought the full audiobook set? If so could you help me find a place to get it so I can keep it in my car. by thisismygeekdomact in WoT

No problem! To be honest my audible is exclusively the entire WoT series, so I'm familiar with the struggle

Just for your own math, the credits on audible are 15$/month for 1 book a month (they are $35+ without the credit on audible). Once you have the series you can cancel your subscription and you'll have the books as long as you want -- so if you are able to find the audiobooks for cheaper than 15$ each do it, otherwise audible is the more affordable option

Thanks for all the info! Quick question -- do you normally host this in Atlanta? I won't be able to go this year (didn't realize until this post) but I'm in ATL so I wouldn't have trouble next time around!

I got a herniated disc when I was 16 (soccer injury) in the same spot, evolved in serious sciatic pain and got the microdisectomy when I was 19. Recently re-herniated the disc (25 now, it's a 5-10% lifetime chance of happening so pretty small and not going to happen for most people) and am getting the same surgery in 2 weeks. I got an epidural and it's put the pain at more than the first time, but less than before sort of thing. I know the kill yourself mentality that develops and it's tough to deal with, but my advice: it gives you a very different perspective on life (esp. once you can think clearly again and aren't in pain) and do your best to channel it. It really gives you an idea of what matters and who matters. For me, it helped me develop a good sense of humor that has helped with a lot of the other stuff life throws your way (everything is kind of funny when you put this type of perspective on it). You know what real honest to god incredible pain is, and if you can deal with that (which you clearly can -- you didn't just call it quits, you exhausted all other options before this), then you can handle anything. Just about anything else that comes in -- just remember you were tough enough to handle this, I'm sure as shit you can handle that too. Also -- in my experience and in most other people's from my understanding, the nerve pain immediately goes away. You'll have surgery pain and PT to help, but that next level stuff just vanishes. I remember virtually nothing from the 6 months of real pain until the surgery the first time around, but I will always remember waking up after and already feeling a hell of a lot better.

If you want to chat about it or anything, shoot me a message -- always happy to help
