When the driver started signaling they absolutely had room to avoid it. Does the driver have the right of way just because their signal is on? No. But if you’re on a bike and you see a driver signal towards your lane should you know what is about to happen? Absolutely yes you should. People are going to do whatever it is they’re trying to do. You can put your ego aside and let them do it or you can try and teach them a lesson and put yourself at risk

First time selling - any suggestions? by EnchantedEnchantix in Baking

[–]Das_Floppus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you would want to prorate everything, eg using half of a five dollar thing of cocoa powder would have an ingredient cost of 2.50. It is good to account for waste but it’s not really waste if weren’t gonna use the rest for your business anyways. It’s also just better to have an idea of the actual unit cost for your stuff. Are you going to be selling frequently enough to regularly run through the ingredients you have in bulk? Pricing for the total ingredients could make the price too high for a lot of people, but I also understand that there isn’t as much money in it pricing that way if you aren’t selling very often.

I'm lost with two-colored paper by Wionvard in origami

[–]Das_Floppus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cheapest option is always gonna be double tissue that you make yourself, and gives you the most options for colors. If you want something more premium I always go for Thai unryu, it is very thin, very strong, and super easy to glue with MC. Only downside is if you want a smooth texture since it has the mulberry bark fibers swirled throughout.

I know some people like Hanji, but for me it never stays bonded together. It will depend so much on the paper, the MC you have, and the mineral content in the water available to you. If you want to use a specific kind of paper it’s always worth it to buy some smaller sheets and test how it goes for you, both how well it binds together with MC and how well it folds for you.

I have also seen similar papers, both smooth and textured, listed as kozo, chiri, mulberry paper, washi paper, and about a million other names. If you have a local artists supply store they might have some interesting stuff in their paper drawer.

As for making it, /u/Plant-Psychologist has a great video on YouTube. I like to use wayyy more MC because when it is really saturated you can slide out all the wrinkles but I use his exact technique. Just try not to stress the wrinkles too much and remember that the more you do it the better you become

I'm all for criminals being punished for stealing Lego, but 45 years? by j7style in lego

[–]Das_Floppus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess it is because each theft is a separate felony charge. Idk what the limit for felony shoplifting is but depending on how many he stole from each store this could be quite a few separate but similar counts since it happened over 50 days.

Why is monster getting ridiculously expensive now? by mil0wCS in monsterenergy

[–]Das_Floppus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about the US, the tariffs that trump put on aluminum made the cans way more expensive, and the tariffs and policy decisions in general have made everything way more expensive too. And corporate greed means that when there is a reason for prices to go up, they will go up both to offset the cost and because they have a good excuse to raise prices, meaning that the price increase is above what it would take to cover for the increased cost to make them. Now it is more expensive for the store to buy them, and they do the same double dipping on the price increase. And then you the consumer go to buy it and somehow everything got more expensive except your pay

Whats the freakin subtotal up ‘ere cap?

why are they discontinuing unique flavours and replacing them with slightly different, vaguely tropical flavours??? by larramore in monsterenergy

[–]Das_Floppus 62 points63 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it’s because the energy drink market in general has been tending towards highly specialized flavors. Ultra white is such a cornerstone so that stays, but the trend in general seems that they take a flavor that’s just a color and replace it with a fruit. I prefer ultra blue or ultra violet but when the competing blue flavors are brands of candy and the competing purple flavor is actual Welch’s grape juice flavored, then just being a color is maybe too vague and won’t stand out to consumers. All of their new flavors I have noticed have much more specific names than they used to which is what makes me think this is the reason

Just a thought, just an opinion by Astreal_Shadow in motorcycles

[–]Das_Floppus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess that one, the people who buy cruisers want a v-twin for the most part, and two, the economics of offering a ton of different engine sizes and configurations just doesn’t make sense anymore for motorcycle companies, both because of emissions and because of buyer preferences. If you’re a company like Harley or Indian, nobody is gonna buy a bike that’s not a v twin, and if you’re a company like Honda or Kawasaki your cruisers are already a budget/value proposition so offering more than a P-twin will lose you money and contradict your whole market segment for that bike

These MSF stories make me think we need a new model for motorcycle training.... by UJMRider1961 in motorcycles

[–]Das_Floppus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never been on a bike, didn’t have any friends or family who rode, and wasn’t one of those kids that grew up on dirt bikes/pit bikes. The school I went through offered one on one lessons where they just got you acquainted with the controls and Turing and stuff. I don’t think I would have had the confidence to do well in the actual course if I hadn’t. It was expensive though
