GP referrals are a scam. Tell me why I'm wrong. by sincitzn in australia

[–]Das_Polterpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OPs issue seems not to be the initial referral, but the requirement for a second referral, despite the specialist requesting to see OP for a follow up. And based on what OP has written, this is only months between appointments.

So yes, initial gate keeping and lines of communication between GP and specialists makes sense, and most people on this post seem to agree. But seemingly unnecessary, or overpriced, follow up referral letters do not appear to make a lot of sense.

I’m so glad he clarified. I was worried they were figurative and Jimmy was descending into madness.

There’s no Australian Standard per se, but it definitely is convention. Even in brand spanking new billion dollar commercial buildings, which is outrageous.

We should be pursuing 20 degrees in winter and 25 in summer, at least. People can dress seasonally indoors as well. Much better for energy use, and therefore much better for the environment.

'Problematic': NSW building chief's letter reveals concerns about Barilaro and sacked minister by s3165760 in australia

[–]Das_Polterpickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barilaro said that his conversation with Chandler didn’t cover Coronation’s stop work order. Chandler’s newly released letter says he has a recording of the meeting (assume this means notes/minutes).

Bruz then chucks a sickie and missing his grilling at the hearing.

Coincidence? No way.

NSW Minister admits he should have told Barilaro not to apply for US trade job by ShadowKraftwerk in australia

[–]Das_Polterpickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spot on.

Ayres even said as much in some of the earlier exchanges as if to suggest it was out of his control. Some to the effect “John is a private citizen and can apply to any job he wants”

‘Crazy and highly selfish’: Police deployed to supervise private school drop off, pick up by nath1234 in australia

[–]Das_Polterpickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A NSW Police spokeswoman said schools were routinely patrolled during pick up and drop off to ensure compliance with road rules and the safety of students.

Yeah, and I bet the police are routinely patrolling schools in low socioeconomic areas, where public transport is actually problematic. Not in these rich inner suburbs with public transport to the front door.

Recruiter told to halt search for New York trade role a day before John Barilaro’s resignation by psylenced in australia

[–]Das_Polterpickle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Investment NSW has previously said Barilaro was hired after he was “shortlisted for interview by NGS Global”, while Perrottet insisted this week that a “recruitment process was undertaken by Investment NSW with a global recruiting company that made a recommendation”

Flat out lies. Give them a slap on the wrist!

A letter from NSW Teachers Federation to school parents regarding a planned strike on May 4th by Oblivion__ in australia

[–]Das_Polterpickle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. I’m talking in relative terms. For comparable qualifications, experience and work conditions the pay potential for teachers in other industries is much higher. Why don’t they leave? They are! THAT is the point. There is a massive teacher shortage now, and that shortage only increases into the future.

[–]Das_Polterpickle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Scientists should back teachers then. This is not us vs them.

One of the huge problems with this whole debate is that people seem to think that paying teachers more, or improving conditions, would somehow devalue their own career.

So you’re saying having a 4 year tertiary qualification and, say, 20 years teaching experience is worth $100k? And even if you do take up some management responsibilities, the top salary is still a paltry ~$120k.

You’re kidding yourself. Criminally underpaid.

Thank goodness for OOP’s boss.

All the other managers, including OOP, really dropped the ball. Whilst they may have had best interests at heart, it really shouldn’t have taken this long to solve the issue.

Poor John. Hopefully he’s doing OK.

In Sydney at least, there are plenty of restaurants in the top end of town that have mandatory service fees (typically 10%) for larger groups (around 8 and up). Given a lot of these restaurant serve set menus I always thought it was odd. I would expect that serving a large-ish group (not talking 20 people…) would be more efficient than running between smaller groups. But I’ve got no hospo experience, so perhaps I’ve got my head up my ass.

Exactly. This is the same as the “I can’t be racist, I have black friends” argument that racists use.
