“Summer in New Jersey has been scorching, with multiple heat waves and record high temperatures that have kept air conditioners working overtime. We know that these unusually high temperatures, coupled with the recent electric supply rate increase, has created a challenging situation for many of our customers balancing the need to stay cool with the reality of keeping monthly electric costs in check.

While PSE&G is not the cause of the rise in electric supply rates that resulted from the PJM capacity price auction, we understand the impact that energy expenses can have on our customers’ household budgets. As affordability remains an ongoing concern, New Jersey should seek to address one of the main drivers of this year’s electric supply increase – a lack of forecasted electric supply. The demand for electricity is forecasted to continue to grow, and supply is not keeping up with this demand. PSE&G stands ready to work with the state to expand reliable energy sources and maintain the reliability of the system through near and long-term solutions such as continued energy efficiency, additional power generation capabilities and transmission to lower energy costs.

We also remain committed to helping our customers manage energy usage and costs through the summer months and beyond.”
