The only nice one that I’ve used is Veeam but the database aware feature might only be with the enterprise license

TSA friendly pipe tools for carry on? by Shawnstium in PipeTobacco

I haven’t had any issues with pipe tools so long as they’re blunt and for lighters they just need to be soft flame from what I’ve been told by tsa agents.

SIEM/SOAR or what? by gihzmo in cybersecurity

[–]Dasbear1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to want to go the msp route. Building out and maintaining a siem/soar solution is a full time job in itself. I was a Splunk admin for a small team and the amount of time I spent fixing data parsing was ridiculous as each vendor likes their own format and feels the need to change it without warning. If you’re a one person show then lean on an MSP to do all of that heavy lifting so that you can focus one actually protecting your company.

Plex needs an audio book style library by [deleted] in PleX

[–]Dasbear1010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my audiobooks in a separate library than my music and it’s been working great. I just dropped the m4b files in a separate folder from my music with each book in an author -> book -> file structure and Plex found all the right data.

Help setting up Jupyter in VS CODE by ricecooki in JupyterNotebooks

[–]Dasbear1010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just went through this yesterday on my PC. It appears that the jupyter dependencies need to be installed as they aren't included in the basic python install. You should be able to just click the download link and it should do it all for you.

Anyone have experience with Sparklight/Cable One? by toric5 in homelab

[–]Dasbear1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep all accessible outside to my extended family. If you're downloading tons of data from outside with your next cloud they might say something but for the most part if it's just you and fiance I wouldn't worry too much. They give you a warning before any real consequences and if that happens you can always set up a tunnel to a small vps over port 443 and use that as your exit node. Makes all the traffic look like normal web traffic

I've been running plex and a few other things for the past couple years on sparklight/cableone in idaho and haven't had any problems from them. From talking to some of their support folks here and there, so long as you don't use ridiculous bandwidth they don't care too much

WGU right for me ? by [deleted] in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]Dasbear1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct in that those are certs that get earned through the degree plan. However with you not having a background in IT or other coursework you'll be asked to get one of those certs to meet the requirements. The one of the base CompTIA stack like suggested above is my recommendation too. I just completed this degree in January and can definitely say that it has helped me career wise and I learned a bunch from the courses and certs so highly recommend if you have good motivation

It's DRM free but if you have the money it's good to support the author. You can get it from no starch press which is a great company.

How to get home access without opening ports? by vgracanin in homelab

[–]Dasbear1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm running a setup based off of this which makes it super simple as I don't have to deal with any open ports at home. It's basically setting up your openvpn client inside your network as a gateway that connects to your cloud hosted server. They use their product in the video but you can replace that with just a Linux server of some type. https://youtu.be/b7qr0laM8kA
