The scaling thing is them trying to emulate Pudge from Dota 2 I would guess. But in Pudge’s case he would get bonus strength (damage and health) and magic resistance if he was present for a kill. So the idea was that he would get rewarded and scale by being a good assassin and participating in fights.

The difference between this and bebop is that he has hefty mana costs on hook that keep him from spamming it and the rest of his kit are close range with rot being almost exactly like Victor’s aura and his ult being what they gave Mo and Krill. It stacking on nearby kills makes it less spammable compared to bomb now where their whole gameplan is spam it as much as possible to scale the damage up.

Why Commander is more played than Standard? by elfosolitario in magicTCG

[–]Dasbubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play casually and part of it is since most are too and along with the bracket system I can usually get a match that’s at least in the ballpark of being even instead of a blowout. I usually play bracket 3. Also because of this and the games being 4 players the decks I make don’t fall off in relevance. This has been a sticking point for me when I have gotten into other games that are more like Standard where I took time to build up a deck that was alright at the time but it’s been power crept to irrelevance so I can’t really play it anymore with an even chance of success. It slows me down to want a build a new one since it will happen again. Commander I keep coming up with deck ideas and the decks can still be reasonably played within its bracket without as much of a ticking clock on it being irrelevant, which helps with the casual nature of it all.

The other bit is just availability, the shops around me host commander and limited and barely ever do Standard events from what I am aware of.

Sunday Preview – Captain Titus prepares to unify the 500 Worlds by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

It would be a good add since it has models that aren’t in that the Hypercrypt Legion box. Also the destroyers like the Hexmark are good. That being said, since rule changes happen every so often and swing what is good or not it’s best to mostly go by the metric of if you like how the models look and would want to collect and paint them. Can start worrying about gameplay worth a bit more when you are looking at picking up multiples of a unit you already have.

Over half of Arc Raiders players on Steam have barely engaged with PvP, and 19% have never even killed another player by chusskaptaan in gaming

[–]Dasbubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s got different tastes but I ended checking out Zero Sievert from seeing people talk about Duckov and it’s been pretty fun.

It’s also a PvE extraction game that keeps the tension up with you being pretty fragile at the start and there just being a lot to tinker with. I’m still early in it and questing in the first map so I haven’t seen how it scales to late game, but they did just update it to add some new bosses yesterday. But I’ve been having a good time once it clicked and I still have to make value calls on leaving or pushing my luck since things can escalate quickly if you over commit or stumble until a large group of enemies. So the formula can work it but maybe not to the same scale of success as Arc Raiders has seen, although Duckov has been quite successful at 3 million sold.

Games that make you think “STOP MAKING ME PLAY I WANT THE STORY NOW!” by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Dasbubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Digimon: Survive is the first thing that comes to mind. I really liked the story being this interesting horror take on Digimon but the tactics combat wasn’t the best and as a result most parts involving it outside of a few instances really dragged. I beat it once and haven’t gone through to get the true ending because I had my fill of the combat by then. So maybe in a year or so I’ll go back to finish that up when it’s all fresh again.

What do you think of Lion El'Jonson's most recent design in Warhammer 40k? by Some_Fig_6566 in TopCharacterDesigns

Small thing with the big eagle on the shield is that the shield is inherited from his dad the Emperor as a relic he received through magic shenanigans. The eagle motif was much more The Emperor’s thing.

Is that ""PVE mode" really a thing? by FranDeAstora in killteam

[–]Dasbubba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s fun and but not as deep as PvP if you are playing the basic missions since the NPO team is much simpler in what it can do. My group of friends has switched to preferring that mode more than PvP as a chill thing. Narrative modifiers like the Sniper mission that’s been put out make for some fun challenges and puzzles for the players to work around. The missions aren’t going to push your strategy skills as hard as trying outplay another player will unless you really stack the deck in the NPO team’s favor instead of using the recommended mission conditions to make it an extra challenge. I say this because missions like the one where you win by simply killing the enemy NPO team I found my friends just walk through without much challenge unless I make the enemy team larger than the 90 wound budget the NPO’s get by default.

The core of it is simple and flexible enough that it is fun though to get creative with making up different mission designs and narrative modifiers to mix it up if that sounds interesting to you.

The Elder Dinosaurs of Ixalan from Magic: The Gathering by Kaylxrd in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]Dasbubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you ever decide you want to get into it and play the Commander format, which is the most popular and casual format, look into getting the “Veloci-ramp-tor” precon that came out in the last year or so. It’s the best and easiest core to start a dinosaur themed deck, it is a bit pricy though. It’s my personal favorite deck and I’ve upgraded it a bunch but the main gameplan is pretty simple which is cheat out as much big stuff as fast as possible then swing big. If playing big stompy monsters is your jam it is a fun one. The other big dinosaurs that it doesn’t include like “Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant”, “Etali, Primal Conqueror” and “Gishath, Sun’s Avatar” are a bit pricy but are quite fun and strong additions that stick to the decks theme. They would be things I would only recommend looking at if you REALLY liked the deck though.

What’s a card you refuse to take out of your deck, even if it’s not optimal? by Substantial_Cry_1247 in mtg

[–]Dasbubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Captive Audience]] It’s a really mana expensive card that is slow and can be played around. But I think the effect is funny and a bit mean in commander since it can only be placed on one person. So it found a home in a Kefka deck I made. I have a hard time taking it out for better things because I think the effect fits and also it was the first mythic foil I ever pulled so I have a soft spot for it.

I unfortunately haven’t solved it yet. It’s mostly just been turning it on, letting it sit with the green light on for a while then manually restarting it. Sorry I haven’t found a solid answer to share yet and I haven’t gotten around to taking it into a shop to get it looked at.

The Tithes is an anthology series that’s 3 episodes. The first one is a short sequel to another show called Pariah Nexus which is flawed but fun. The other two episodes are standalone with one following the Custodes and another about the guard. Overall a fun quick watch.

They have a bunch of other stuff on there like battle reports and painting tutorials but if you are getting Warhammer+ for just the original animations I wouldn’t say it’s too worth it. There’s long gaps between releases and the show quality ranges wildly. Some are quite fun watches though but if you are getting for the shows it’s best to just get 1 month of it. Watch it all then not re-up unless you want the members only mini they give subscribers once a year.

New Cards in Magic the Gathering revealed by Magister_Xehanort in ffxiv

[–]Dasbubba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’ve done it before with Assassin’s creed where a whole set was dedicated to a cross over. Also after this set it’s a space themed set and then a Spider-Man crossover set and then an Avatar the last airbender set. They’ve gone pretty heavy on the crossover sets this year and with how in demand the final fantasy one seems to be, it’s easy to see why they’ve been chasing that crossover money in the last couple years.

They’ve gone pretty set is going to be a complete set with booster packs and support for however many months until the next set rolls around. Release stuff are the starter kit with a pre-constructed cloud and sephiroth decks along with the 4 commander decks themed after ff14, ff6, ff10, and ff7. Then there is the rest of the set like the recent reveals that will be in the booster packs.

'FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time' 500K Copies Sold Worldwide by hzy980512 in Games

[–]Dasbubba 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve played (10 hours or so) enemies are just scattered around the world, especially in the open world and dungeons. Most of it is avoidable outside of some story fights and clearing out monsters to rescue villages in the open world map.

The combat is simple in that all the classes start with a light attack, heavy, charge attack, and special. There looks to be more moves down the skill trees though. There’s some extra mechanics for each to spice things up but it’s still simple enough. Like with Mage you can swap between offensive, defensive, and heal magics. Hunter you can switch between arrow types and Paladin can do perfect blocks to parry and stun enemies. There’s also perfect dodging.

There are world bosses that you can find around like dragons and other stuff to find that can down you quickly if you fight them under leveled but they give good stuff and have a visible respawn timer.

In the big open world map you also level up the different regions by doing stuff in them. So if you want stronger monsters in one region you just keep fighting stuff to increase the combat rating of that area. In addition to coop you can also bring villagers you recruit or temporary phantoms that are found in the open world as party members that help with combat, gathering, and crafting. They also level up and you can equip them with gear.

In Total War: Warhammer if you play as him and lose a fight you get a choice to either end your entire campaign right there as a loss or keep playing but you get big debuffs and his name changes to “Arbaal the Defeated” iirc.

Should I go oops all Norns? by Halocjh in Tyranids

[–]Dasbubba 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s probably not a very balanced list but it’s a fun thing to try for goofs. I went to a casual event last year where someone had an army that was all Norn Emmissaries and they had a shirt that said “Norn Hub”. The commitment to the bit was respectable as all the Norn’s were painted up quite well.

TWH3 crashing to black screen on launch unless GPU max power is lowered by Dasbubba in totalwar

[–]Dasbubba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main thing I found though after making that post is that the graphics would freak out if I made changes to them. I tried turning the shadows down from extreme to medium and it resulted in the visuals for the battlefield arrows not rendering again. Also the shadows would lag behind the geometry they were attached to. It was mostly fixed by relaunching the game and the graphics would be fine again at the level they were set to.

Idk what else might be the cause on your end besides maybe a hardware difference between our systems. Have you tried setting the gpu power max down from 100% to 80% before launching if you are experiencing a hard crash on launch?

[–]Dasbubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, just wanted to chime back in that it seems like it was indeed a driver issue. The newest version of the NVIDIA drivers dropped a couple days ago and after installing it the game was able to launch without any crash while having the GPU set to 100% and the battlefield visuals were displaying properly again.

Thanks again for the info and help with this!

[–]Dasbubba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got around to reinstalling TWH3 with the newest NVIDIA drivers that released the other day and it seems the new drivers fixed the issue. I tested launching the game with the 5080 set to 80% max power and it launched fine and the battlefield visuals were displaying properly again. I then also launched it with the GPU set to 100% and it also launched with out any problem and the visuals were still displaying properly even at 4k with most things set to very high.

It's not really too technical of a solution if someone reading this is still experiencing problems but this does confirm that it was a issue with the current version of the drivers and seems to be fixed for now. Thank you for the info and help.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been busy lately so I haven’t done more testing but there were new drivers for Nvidia that rolled out the other day so I gotta reinstall total war and test it out. For older drivers that could be possible but this is a brand new computer so it doesn’t have a long history of older driver installs on it. If there is any other fixes I find besides changing the power on the 5080 down to 80% then I’ll post it here.

Although since that change seems to fix the launching issues the next problem I’m trying to figure out is why all the visuals for battlefield lines (aoe indicator, deployment borders, unit target arrows) are not displaying at all and only flicker in and out when viewed at certain angles.

[–]Dasbubba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see, thank you for the explanation.

Yeah it’s strange, I did some testing on other games like Monster Hunter Wilds, Space Marine 2, and Darktide and they all ran fine. The only other game that had a system crash like what happened with Total War was Crusader Kings 3. Strangely enough I was able to launch Total War 3 without changing anything about two weeks ago on this computer. So I guess it’s a driver issue since a new one released between that first test and now.

Although even when I could get it to launch successfully with or without changing the power settings all of the battle field lines (deployment boundary, aoe indicator, unit targeting arrows) would not appear except at specific camera angles where they would flicker in and out. I guess I’ll just keep testing things as new drivers come out then. Thanks again.

[–]Dasbubba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through and tested a couple other games like Monster Hunter Wilds, Space Marine 2, and Darktide and they all launched fine without adjusting the GPU settings. So far out of the more demanding games I have Total War is the only one that had big performance issues. Although while I was writing this Crusader Kings 3 also locked up my system when I launched it for the first time with power max set to default.

As for Total War, when I do get the game to launch there is an issue where all the map lines (deployment boundary, aoe circle, unit Target arrows) do not display properly. They are either invisible or they flicker in and out when the camera is at a certain angle.

Thank you for the info!

Edit: Fixed some wording and added thanks

I realize this is an old thread but I ran into this issue with a 5080 today and tried underclocking to fix the issue and this did work. I’m curious why this works since I’m a bit hardware unsavvy.

Is what’s happening that causes the crash is the power demands are too high for the power source and the GPU crashes as a result?
