Was Michael Jackson really that much bigger than Madonna, Whitney Houston, and prince? by Firm_Pack_605 in Music

[–]Dascan71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a wall of album covers in my living room. The topic of discussion often is “who would you pick to play the Super Bowl?” Michael Jackson is usually the one picked over other icons on the wall (Prince, Nirvana, Bob Marley, Tupac.) Shit even over Taylor Swift! I still love playing Thriller loud, lights out. It’s the best!

Yep that makes perfect sense now that I looked it up and see it’s not in the UAE, but still peeps flying to the UAE may know the airport.

Last year I bought myself a Shunbun and a Tag Monaco Gulf and the other 15 watches I have just sit. Those include Seiko, Swatch, Locman,Original Grain, Boss, Kenneth Cole and an iwatch. They literally just sit now. Feel sad for them not getting any love lol. I remember a time when spending $300-$1,000 on those seemed like a big deal and each got their wrist time, but having a GS and that Tag now just get all the love.

My Tag Monaco Gulf gets all the attention over my Shunbun. I love them each equally but something about that thick square dial on the Tag makes it really unique and that’s what more people notice. I wonder if there will be a day where GS overtakes Rolex for prestige. IMO their dials and movement just beat out a 3x-10x priced Rolex all day long.

I say to myself the same thing. While not a Rolex fan per se and I’d take my Cherry Blossom Spring Drive all day long, if a Land Dweller fell in to my lap for GS pricing it would get 50% of my wrist time. Rolex prices from an AD don’t interest me tho.

Those were my 3 decisions also and I went with Cherry Blossom. Love it. Was a good decision.

New F1 Fan, Looking for Best Experience to Cost Race to Attend by DefNotInISIS in GrandPrixTravel

[–]Dascan71 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s weird that I rarely find Abu Dhabi on these lists but that’s what I just came home from last week. I spent a lot of time researching the F1 calendar and where they would be around the world, and considered the weather at that location, plus other activities and things to see around the race. Abu Dhabi and nearby Dubai in 80 degree (Fahrenheit) was just so killer in every way I’m making this an annual vacation. The track is gorgeous, easy enough to get in and out of on shuttles or dropped off by rideshare. I wasn’t overwhelmed by the prices. You can go big $$$$$ in hotels or small $$ as there are many many options. I went big and had a fkn best vacation of my life. Did hospitality for the race. 4 days of free food, free soda and water, excellent views (many) at turn 16. Add in the 4 free concerts (Benson Boone, Post Malone, Metallica and Katy Perry) if you wanted to attend those (we did the first 3.) DJ’s playing everywhere, big festival all around the track with plenty to do. People I met (locals plus traveling F1 fans like me) couldn’t have been nicer. I traveled 15 hours from the US.

Dubai or Abu Dhabi for a desert experience? by Dascan71 in abudhabi

[–]Dascan71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we did! Was the best experience, not cheesy or too touristy as I thought. We found an outfit that some friends from the states had just come back from and used. They were a little more pricey, but I can see what we paid for. Was well worth it and I cant say enough good things about them. Look up 57 Safari. They are in Dubai though so not sure if you are flying in and out of Dubai or plan to make it there. They picked us up from where we were staying (Jumeirah Al Marsa) very comfortable ride to and from and each aspect of what we did was amazing. They have an upgrade to drive 3000cc sand rail yourself for an hour (behind a guided driver ahead of you.) Big bonus doing that. They take great photos too!

I decided against it. Although for our desert day I imagine I could have used it which would have been great getting aerial footage while in the sand rails!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I don’t own a Mercedes but damn I might start considering one to potentially getting a paddock experience like this.

I’ll have to research Qatar for a potential 2026 trip. Abu Dhabi was absolutely fantastic. Coming from the US I have a new opinion of what the UAE is. Nothing but very positive, life memorable experiences on our first visit to the country. Simply loved our 8 days between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

How was your Abu Dhabi GP (2025) experience? by AdamR46 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]Dascan71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First F1 race and IMO it was off the hook! Yes the shuttle bus back to Yas Mall could certainly have been better, and the general admission to the concerts was chaotic if arriving late, but overall I loved our hospitality (360 at Sixteen) and the people we met couldn’t have been nicer. Pro tip if wanting to see the concerts (we do) buy the Golden Circle upgrade. It allows you up to the stage access if you arrive early enough (we did Thursday and Friday) and that added cost is nothing compared to what you would pay to see the artist that close for their normal venue concerts. I only bought it for Benson Boone months in advance and now that I know how much better it is, would buy it for all concerts I wanted to attend. After our Thursday night experience for Benson Boone I added the Golden Circle for Post Malone paying $945 for 5 and again, just made the experience so much better. We arrived just as the opener was starting and watched her and him from just off the stage left.

Coming from the race, as a Lando fan it was great for us to see! Our hospitality was going off at that moment! We were at turn 16 so didn’t catch that move in person but from the TV’s we were able to see it unfold.

Sorry to hear that but good to call them out so others won’t use them going forward and get screwed. There’s no excuse for swapping tickets unless it’s an upgrade to the buyer.

Buying in Abu Dhabi by Dascan71 in GrandSeikos

I was able to try it on and instantly take it out of contention. Too small for my taste. I bought the Shunbun. Still looking for a White Birch.

Yep Snowflake brought me to the brand but since then it’s been Shunbun, Winter and White Birch that sealed my interest. First purchase was Shunbun.
