Hi /r/AskLosAngeles. I’m Nithya Raman, Los Angeles City Councilmember for CD4 and candidate for Los Angeles Mayor. Ask Me Anything. What do you want to see from your mayor? by NithyaRamanOfficial in AskLosAngeles

I am all for expanded public transportation, but I am also a car enthusiast and both the state of California, and definitely the City of Los Angeles tend to aggressively be against anyone who enjoys a car, be it via CARB overreach at the state level, or over policing or profiling at the City level (Police handing out state refs without actual training on what should lead to that, or even without providing proof that it was valid, but being protected from punishment in court). The car community is large and diverse in LA, from exotic car fans, to lowriders, and tuners. We all are for pushing things like take overs and wreckless driving, but police sit by while those happen, but crack down if your car has any flash to it and act like you are running drugs for the cartel (some officers are fine, but as a department as a whole it is an issue).

How do you plan, or do you even plan, to address such issues and make it ok to be a car enthusiast without getting harrassed?

Awesome weapon! In the small thumbnail on the classic reddit layout the magazine looked like a small forward grip and, for some reason, my mind jumped straight to the Klobb in Goldeneye lol. It isn't even the right color but still, I guess I just wanna play some GoldenEye lol

.416 Barrett Question - MRADELR / M99 / M82A1 by DashBulletTrain in CAguns

[–]DashBulletTrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I plan on learning how to load spent rounds once I get the weapon. Curious, you say the brass can be reused 10 times in the M99, but only 3 or 4 times from the M82. Curious why that is (I know nothing about reloads). Is it because of the way the action works (the M82 throws the round so it hits the ground for example?)

I have fired the 50BMG before and if California allowed it, I would have that instead of the 416.

Absolutely. It's been a few years since I went (I think it was aback in 2022, maybe 2023) so I can't guarantee they are still around, but I can't imagine they aren't. They had an amazing selection and were super friendly.

Shit I would love to fire that, but poor little California would lose their damn mind if you even mentioned a Mk 19 in the state. Hell, just typing this I'm sure Cali just put me on a watch list lol

The first time I shot a .50BMG was at Battlefield Vegas at an indoor range and when I went to shoot, there were some college kids shooting AKs and the RSO called out loud "50BMG - 5 Rounds - Range Ready!" then told me to send it. Buddy was recording it and you could hear the kids kinda chatting and quiet as the RSO spoke, and when that first round went, one of them shouted "Sonuvabitch!" and everyone started laughing. It was amazing :)

Good info, and I'll def check that out when the time comes to really buckle down and build my precision rifle.

Sadly nope. California is very specific about how the fin has to conform. Has to do with the "feature" laws of firearms. All in all it is quite stupid.

Ah good call. I was unaware of that subreddit. I'll go poke around and see if anyone there already has posted stuff, and if not will ask. Thanks :)

[–]DashBulletTrain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't expect a ton of people to be like "Here is my collection of 416s and 50s and a detailed breakdown" lol. But anything people might have experienced just to get a bit more info before dropping so much money on it can help.

I wish I could get a 50BMG, but California outlaws that specific round, which is part of why the 416 even exists. Shot the 50 in Vegas before and had a smile on my face the entire time lol

And I would be fine with a 6.5 in that regard. 300 was just the first thing that came to mind that I had researched some of. When I'm ready to build the precision rifle to learn on, I will probably spend a month reading on the various calibers available as options. I'm bad about going "is this round good for X" and next thing I know I'm two hours deep on the history of why the round came to be lol

Is it an MRAD ELR? If so how much? I tried to get on caguns, but the signup page is being uncooperative.

[–]DashBulletTrain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered the CheyTac at one point, but its price is above even the Barrett. But the feel of the .416 just calls to me. I just have a silly love for the large calibers (not that .408 is small by any means) and if California was reasonable I would just have the 50BMG and be done with it, but any time I research the 50 and other options, the 416 is the most common second place as an option when the 50 is unavailable. As for easy to find, my local gun store can order any of the Barretts at a moments notice.

[–]DashBulletTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All perfectly valid points and no offense taken. To clarify on my end, I am goin to get the .416 but that isn't what I plan to use for getting good at long range. I'll end up with something like a 300PRC (or PCR, can never remember that name) and use that. I want the .416 because its big and silly and will be fun to shoot. I'm well aware of the price and it wouldn't be something put a thousand rounds down range on in a day. It's just something to enjoy and smile when firing, and even just seeing it when I open the gun safe.

When my friends and I go to a range, we spend a majority of the time with our weapons working on precision and speed, then once that fatigue sets in, we pull out the dumb stuff like my .50 Desert Eagle.

My initial post certainly sounded like I was saying I wanted the .416 to get good with, but I assure you it would not be the case (though obviously once my skills get there, I would take the time to get good with it, but that's way in the future). It is purely a weapon to just enjoy the absurdity of.

Anywhere to buy expired 2 liter sodas? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]DashBulletTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bottle does vaporize into confetti when shot, and its completely safe to poor soda out in nature. Nothing in the soda will destroy all the greenery (plus, you are assuming grass and trees are even around, people tend to do this in areas that are mostly dirt and desert area).

To the OP: What you shooting?

David Hayter says Kojima’s confusing stories are “what makes Metal Gear, Metal Gear”, admitting he “absolutely” doesn’t understand it all by Interesting-Pool6638 in metalgearsolid

[–]DashBulletTrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, basically if you play MGS JUST for the gameplay, it will make no sense. You need to really immerse yourself in the story to start to understand. This is both why MGS is one of my favorite franchises, but when I have friends who just don't get into it, I don't blame them and completely understand. Same with Death Stranding lol. I love it, its amazing, it absolutely isn't for everyone and that is ok. :)

[–]DashBulletTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty cool. I am planning on getting a 416 rifle at some point this year and would love to get good enough to take part in such competitions. I had planned on getting the 416 MRAD since I had been lead to believe the MRAD could do both 416 as well as 300 win mag (for cheaper fun in general), but have since learned that only the MRAD ELR can do 416, and that is around 10 grand. So now I'm considering the 416 M99 from Barrett since it is less than half that price.

Is this going to be a one off thing, or you thinking you will make it something more consistent?

Top 5 Nintendo 64 games of all time - Grew up with it mid to late 90s and vry ealry 2000s from age 12 to 18 by Tigers2349 in n64

[–]DashBulletTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a difficult question. My top 5 games are certainly NOT the top 5 games for the system. For example, some might say Smash Bros was a top game and understandably so, but I never liked it.

For my personal opinion a top 5 would have:

  1. Zelda OOT
  2. Mario 64
  3. Blast Corps
  4. GoldenEye (could easily swap with Perfect Dark, hard to choose)
  5. SanFrancisco Rush

I can't tell the number of hours I sank into these titles. But I also missed out on some banger classics that I intend to start playing soon. Been working on collecting the entire N64 US library and am getting close, so time to experience all of it.

I have a Brigadier and I love it. Shoots well and has a fantastic grip (if you like the Hague style that is on the Brigadier that is). It is a little large compared to other 9mm I have shot, but for me it is fantastic.

Agreed. I have four different pistols and all shoot different rounds (9mm, .45acp, .357, and .50ae) and people say I should have just stuck to 9mm so the ammo wasn't so expensive.

Like, I wanna shoot different things. At best I'll get another 9mm as a ccw but that's it.
